Federal Taphouse and Kitchen
The hostess was amazing. She went out of her way to accommodate us. I'm a disabled veteran and they were expecting a huge crowd, but she took the time to get us seated and turned some heat for my wife. The service was great and prompt. The margaritas were outstanding. The steak tips were tender and delicious. The first time we were there and they made quite the impression. I would highly recommend it.
Good bloody’s! Great fried pickles & eggs cooked perfect!
Our family of 6 (plus a friend) had a late lunch/early dinner at Federal Taphouse on a Saturday - our first visit, based on a recommendation. We had a great experience! We tend to go overboard on appetizers and these did not disappoint- the chicken Parmesan egg rolls, potstickers, fried pickles and Asian fried cauliflower bites were all fantastic, and our main meals were all good as well. The waitstaff was very pleasant and attentive, nice ambiance, and even the piped in music was enjoyable. Will definitely go back (2 of our kids go to college locally).
We were looking for a steakhouse as Capital Grille was completely full due to sports. Looking up Federal Taphouse - it was listed as a steakhouse. What this place actually is, is a bar with tavern food. We were okay with the live music but the only ‘steak’ were steak tips that you could get with a salad or side. NOT a steak house. On any level. We should have done a little more research, shame on us. This is a bar, not a restaurant. Valet doesn’t elevate an establishment to fine dining, even in Federal Hill. So the stars are irrelevant as we didn’t stay and eat. The bartender was lovely and non intrusive, she would have been fun if we had been offered a steak house menu.
Service was a bit slow is my only complaint really
My second experience at Federal Taphouse was not as good as my first. On my first visit, the food and the service were both amazing. We had the poutine fries, avocado toast, and the steak and eggs. They were all marvelous.
However, our second visit was not as great. We got the Portuguese French toast special and steak and eggs again. We got homefries that were actually cold. Like not room temperature, cold like they had been in the fridge. We asked the waitress for new homefries and they came out warmer than before but it was still clear that they were from the day before because of the texture/consistency and temperature. The eggs were also not cooked properly, I asked for over medium, but they were definitely overcooked. Everything else was pretty good for the most part.
Overall, I still plan to go back but I was definitely disappointed with the significant quality difference between my visits. Maybe they were just having an off-day.
I had made a reservation for New Years Day, evening, but it was not busy and only about half full. Free Valet was great since it is mostly paid meter parking on Federal Hill. We had a grilled cheese with balsamic onions, it was delicious! Also, we tried poutine fries with short rib gravy, also wonderful. The tomato soup was a bit too rich or acidic, and neither of us finished ours. It was a bit pricey at $60 for the two of us, but overall a very good experience.
The food & service was excellent! Especially since it was the busiest night of the year!!
Food is always good. We had exceptional service on NYE even though it was super crowded!
Not very much menu options. Also some items that I ordered lacked seasoning. The margaritas were amazing.
Excellent food, incredible service and the bottomless mimosa brunch is a spectacular deal. We will keep coming back here!
The place was very slow; I'm assuming lunch isn't their specialty. My cousins and siblings hot together for a holiday lunch. The service began very well and the appetizers were great. The entrees took over 30 minutes and they were lackluster. Burgers we cool, tacos had now sauce and were bland. Overall it was dissatisfying however on the bright side we still had a good time visiting with our family.
We were a big group, with lots of different "needs" and our waiter was helpful, attentive and made the evening go smoothly. Really great service and delicious food! Thanks for a memorable night!
My husbands birthday
Good bar in a nice townz
Our waitress was exceptional! I wish I could remember her name. Super knowledgeable, helpful, happy, and accommodating!
Great pub, quality service, Great Happy hour prices and right on the bus line so can't beat it!
Cool place and great service. The food is decent
Need to add some more chicken and seafood meals. Need some more entree type meals added to the menu. Menu is a little limited.
We had a great time at the Federal Taphouse Brunch! The mimosa special is amazing and the food was delicious. The only feedback I have is that my fries were cold (I still ate them) and they forgot our friend’s surprise birthday dessert before bringing out the check (so we didn’t bother with it). Overall, a good experience and I’ll definitely go back!
Good food and good service! Lots of TVs for games!
Service was horrible, it seemed like staff was unsure who was supposed to be waiting on the guest. Food took forever to get to the table. Prices of beer on the menu on the table were cheaper than what we were actually charged for. Be careful. I would not go back for overpriced beer and food with lousy service.
Hit FTK during a festival on Federal Hill so the crowd and experience was most likely different then an average Sunday. Food was good quality and so was service. Got stuck in the back which was ok because we wanted to be sat quickly but recommend sitting up front as there was no natural light out back.
Mother / daughter lunch. The service was friendly and excellent
Great drinks, nice vibe - creative menu . Taco tortilla a bit stale. Great wings. Good meatloaf.
Nice place to meet friends for apps/drinks. The APPY Hour menu was great! Service was a bit slow but other than that, it was good.
Good service, reasonable prices, food was great
It was my 3rd time there. Never a disappointment. From the great selection of beer to the delicious food, you can’t go wrong. And the waitstaff is always top notch.
I gave an Overall 3 Stars because of the noise factor. We were a table of 4, and our waitress, Hannah, was great! Very friendly and knowledgeable about the food and drink menus. It was a fun environment until the 8:00 hour hit, perhaps? Definitely catering to a younger crowd, although a good mix of ages (45-65) were already seated, and still coming in. It was pop music, very loud, but NOT very good - unrecognizable for sure! Annoying to be exact, so the message was... time for you old folks to exit? I asked management to turn the music down just a hair, which he did, for 3 minutes. Maybe that's what you get there on a Saturday night, but way too early to crank the volume. Couldn't wait to get out, might have bought another drink! Service was excellent and the food was good, but there are other choices on the hill if you want to dine a little later.
Great food casual atmosphere
Federal Taphouse has the best buffalo chicken mac & cheese around!
When seated, we waited about 10 minutes to have someone come over to our table. We ordered chips and salsa for an appetizer. We waited 25 minutes without our appetizer, all while other tables were being served their food. We were finally able to get the hostess’s attention as she was walking by our table, and asked if someone could check on our food. A different waitress walked by and informed us that the kitchen was cooking more chips and that they would be ready soon. Another 10 minutes of waiting, we got our appetizer and within another minute, our dinner was served. We would have appreciated our waitress to inform us why our very simple appetizer was taking 25 minutes, rather than her not coming over to our table once.
The food was great, especially the poutine and the mac and cheese with braised pork. Service was slow but there was a concert at the Dunkin Donut Center so everyone was trying to eat and leave at the same time. Would try again.
Great menu for food and drinks. The mango jalapeño wings were delicious! We ordered burgers and grilled cheeses, and they did not disappoint! They do not have a kids menu, but the waitress offered chicken tenders and fries for our boys and they loved them. The food took a long time, but the restaurant seemed to fill up all at once, so it made sense. Great value, 4 adults and 2kids, 3 apps, beers and meals for under $130, that’s unheard of for us!
Bottomless mimosas were 100% juice - food was average pub food and service was not great.
Great meal with good beer!
This was our second visit to Tap House, after having a great 1st experiance there almost a year ago. Our visit this time did not go as well.
My fiance's salmon was well done even though it was ordered rare. The waitress even commented on how overcooked it was, but considering we had been waiting over 30 min for our food he didnt want to send it back. The fried potatoes it was served with were soft and lacked flavor as did his vegetables. He ate half and left the rest. My short rib grilled cheese and ceaser salad was what I expected it to be.
We sat outside, which was a great addition to our experience, but our waitress, while very kind, was very very slow. Our drinks came out quickly, vodka soda and a glass of wine, but that was the last of great service. After placing our food order, no apps just salmon and grilled cheese, we waiting over 30 min. Waitress never came back to check on our drink situation. When our food finally came, she never came back to check in and/or make sure all was well. She only reappeared to take our plates. We asked for the check. 15 minutes later she came back with it and was gone before we could hand her our card. We waited another 10 min for her to come back, before I asked a hostess to take the bill and tab us out. We probably would have ordered another round of drinks and likely would have shared a dessert had she asked us or was at our table long enough for us to ask.
We may give this place another shot, because our first time there was so great.
The food was good, beer selection was ok. I would have liked to see better variety of IPAs . It was pretty good but there was also a festival going on so it was expected to be louder
Went the day of the federal hill celebration. Reservation was prompt, no waiting at all.
