Max's Café was built in 1890 as a shoe store. In 1912, 34 North Burlington Street reopened as Leisinger's Saloon for the next 25 years even through prohibition (as a "soft drink establishment"). In 1937, Leisinger's Saloon passed through the family & was renamed Max's Cafe; it’s name for the next 65 years. In 1977, a new simply prepared fresh seafood menu transformed Max's Cafe into Max’s Seafood Café. The neighboring building was acquired to seat the growing number of patrons from both sides of the Delaware River, often forming lines around the corner, waiting to enjoy fresh flounder, shrimp, clams, & most of all, Steamed Mussels! Max's reputation grew for the next 22 years before age & neglect left it in a state of disrepair. The bar restaurant closed in July of 1998 & remained dormant for 2 ½ years. Refurbished in late 2000, Max's Seafood Cafe reopened on June 2, 2001 to continue its tradition of hospitality, impeccably fresh seafood, & most of all Steamed mussels.

Neighborly meets sophisticated at Red Owl, a modern tavern in the heart of Old City, just across from the Liberty Bell. Among soaring windows and cozy tables, the kitchen serves up smart, stylish takes on American staples (a cheesesteak never tasted as good as ours, made with premium shaved rib-eye). When paired with craft beers and classic cocktails, it’s a clever balance of fancy and familiar, with a dash of Philly flair. We look forward to seeing you soon!

It was the Sunday Roast that brought our group here, and while that was absolutely fantastic, it’s really the atmosphere, service, and cocktails that push this place to 5 stars. The building is beautiful and extremely well decorated, with various separate sections that kept noise low and the atmosphere more intimate — we even ended up chatting with our neighbour table. The servers are extremely attentive and proactive, the drinks were delicious, and the food was absolutely stellar. We split 2 roasts across 3 people, and still ended up bringing a big box home, so I’d say portions are generous and the price to quality is pretty phenomenal.

The food and drinks at Tuna Bar are always delicious. Our server was friendly, efficient and helpful with suggestions for new rolls for us to try - the Rittenhouse and Broad Street, which were both great. Also enjoyed the Pork Gyoza and Wagyu Beef Spring Rolls. The Shiso Picante cocktail was a winner too. We sat outside, which was pleasant with a nice breeze. Can't wait to go back!

A retro cafe with classic and trendy food we had a mix off the menu and specials. The mussels were plump and flavorful calamari crispy but not over cooked. The scallops special was incredible please put on new menu also blackened mahi was flavorful. Tried chocolate mousse which is not overly sweet as dark chicolate; blueberry-lemon cheesecake perfect for summer and cappuccino creme brulee which might have kept me up late lol. We will be back as a new menu is in works.
