Superb from a beautifully mixed Negroni to the nibbles sent to accompany pre lunch drinks. Three course £49.50 lunch menu excellent value trout starter sublime. The main was excellent pork served two ways, order the crème brûlée with no need to thank me for its heaven on a plate. The warm olive rolls & crusty sourdough are always welcome with wild garlic & cods roe butters. Some restaurants are let down by service but Simpsons excel unobtrusive friendly but with the correct amount of explanation so that you don’t glaze over in boredom. If you are thinking of booking please do it’s a gem, set in beautiful gardens. Luke Tipping head chef and team are always on top form.

Excellent food as always was a good afternoon took my brother and sister in law they hadn’t been before was very impressed and will be visiting again

The food was superb, absolutely faultless with layer upon layer of flavour and great choice of wine. What lets it down is the room, it feels like a room in a hotel not a fine dining restaurant. The lights are too bright, the carpet is a hotel carpet, the flowers are false and the other empty tables were not made up. What was really disappointing was the menu was printed on folded paper! Really? In a fine dining restaurant? Even the bar cocktail menu was in a beautiful hard back cover...this whole ambience needs some thought and design applied. The food is the main affair and worth paying for but there are many restaurants where you can and should get both at these prices.
