Founded in 1996 the ideas for the Marblehead Chowder House were actually hatched a few years before. Sitting at "The Barnacle," overlooking Marblehead Harbor one raw winter day, while the spume from the rough saltwater painted the windows and the Sam Adams Lager flowed freely, a concept was born. Casual, coastal and cozy - fresh seafood, fin fish, shellfish and hearty chowders in a warm, relaxing atmosphere that says "seaside" - a place that had tradition, patriotism, and a New England heritage about it. Fresh ingredients, house-made soups and chowders, comfort food with a twist freshly prepared to order were all musts! Features unique to New England were the foundation – Ipswich Belly Clams (aka steamers, softshells, pissers), fresh Lobster Roll, a Raw Bar with half-shell oysters and clams and, of course, live Lobsters arriving regularly. We always enjoy the cold Cocktail Shrimp and Mushroom-Crab soup on Tuesday nights. This week we included the Fish & Chips which were very good; light, crispy, and hot. Service was good, as normal. Restuarant was not very busy (at 7:15 PM) so noise level was low. We will continue to visit for our TUESDAY NIGHT DATE

Always one of our favorites. Menu is perfect size and done well. Last evenings stop for a few appetizers and cocktails after a Holiday Party Bourbon Old Fashions were spot on as always Scallops Casino were incredible and various Flatbreads are creative and never disappoint!

This restaurant is spectacular. The food is exceptional. The service is impeccable. The prices are on par with the level of quality the kitchen is putting out on your table. Everything is well curated. Jerry, our server and the other staff were fantastic. I don’t usually write reviews for restaurants but we left so satisfied with this phenomenal experience that I just have to say something.
