At Philadelphia Distilling, our distilling team combines craftsmanship, science and skill to create a unique portfolio of premium spirits that rely on the agricultural integrity of authentically sourced grains and botanicals and the finest heritage equipment.Hand-hammered copper pot stills from the fifth-generation Forsyth family and wooden fermentation vessels from Hall-Woodford, an iconic Philadelphia-based family business, are key points of difference for us—both in their construction value as well as the integrity of the spirits they help us to produce. We continue our batch-by-batch process, creating spirits that celebrate big, bold flavor.

Mawn is a noodle house with “no rules,” and the first restaurant for Chef Phila Lorn and his wife Rachel, who bring with them close to 20 years of experience in Philly’s restaurant scene. Phila, pronounced “Pee La,” broken English for Philadelphia, is a first-generation Cambodian-American chef. The first in his family to be born here, his parents and siblings came to Philadelphia as refugees in 1985 after surviving the war in Cambodia.Mawn, which means “chicken” in Khmer, the Cambodian language, represents more than one thing. To Phila, chicken was at every meal growing up, and to his parents, chicken represented peacetime. During the war and genocide of the Cambodian people, there was mostly only what was found in nature to eat, including rice and salt. If there was chicken, it meant no war. At the end of that dark time, recipes were lost, and culture was wiped out, but through survival, a new authenticity was born.

Stephen Starr’s Buddakan is a spectacular restaurant featuring exotic flavors of modern Asian cuisine with creativity and drama. Bon Appetit notes, "The mostly white space is striking, with a lit-from-within communal table in the middle of the room, a waterfall & a ten-foot, candle-bedecked Buddha. The religious icon watches over hip customers indulging in pan-Asian cuisine that far surpasses the fare usually found at hot spots like this." Newsweek reports, "Design also serves as a signifier for cuisine. You walk into Buddakan, one of the hottest new restaurants in Philadelphia, past a shimmering waterfall & Japanese river stones & you say to yourself, 'ginger-miso everything' even before you see the magnificent 10-foot Buddha dominating the dining room." Named one of “America's Top 50 Restaurants" by Travel & Leisure and 'Top Restaurant for Fun' by Gourmet, Buddakan has become one of the country's most talked about restaurants.

Food and service was great as always, my only complaint - we had requested a special table, we come here once a year for a birthday and they did not accommodate our request, and the table remained empty for the entire duration that we were there.

One of the best most unique meals I’ve had in Philly. Everything was better than the next. Cocktails were also notably good. 10/10 all around. Will be in top 50 best restaurants next year, no doubt.

Mawn was an adventure for my taste buds. When looking at the menu, you're not sure what every ingredient is or what certain dishes will be presented as, but the servers are super knowledgeable and help guide you through the experience. I've had the green papaya salad and loved it! Last night we ordered the oysters, scallops in curry sauce and clams in buttery lemongrass broth. We had a hankering for seafood! The clams were cooked to perfection and I wanted to bathe in the sauce. It required some additional direct spoonful's. Then we had the all star seafood rice and there was no skimping on the precious fruits of the sea. There were shrimp, tons of lump crab, scallops, uni and trout roe. I've had it before and had to have it again, the MAWN NOODLE SOUP! It's a bowl of comfort. It's like a chicken pho, but richer. Lastly we had both the rice pudding and funnel cake for dessert. The funnel cake was light and buttery, paired beautifully with caramel sauce and the rice pudding had a mountain of light, airy whipped cream. Between the two of us, we had just the right amount of food and some friend rice to enjoy later. The meal transported me back to Asia. It's amazing what can come out of a small row home in South Philly!
