In 1688, Joseph Haviland built a tidewater gristmill that provided the locally-grown grains to a nearby bakery that supplied farmers and tradesmen with bread. It was the first public oven in New York State. Haviland’s Old Grist Mill and the public bakery were community gathering places for two centuries. Inspired by Joseph Haviland’s noble efforts, the Haviland Kitchen & Bar has been established for our neighbors. The appetizers on the menu all looked scrumptious so it was hard to decide but we shared 2 orders of burrata and peaches as well as zucchini chips. Both apps were more than enough to share. Our entrees included 2 different pasta dishes, steak frittes and a gigantic pork chop as well as a salmon dish. They were all delicious.
