Michael Bong didn’t come to Japanese cooking along the obvious route – he’s Korean, for one – but now that he has, he’s certainly making the most of it. Tomodachi Izakaya & Bar on Little Malop Street in the centre of Geelong is a tribute to the corner bars of Tokyo, with a focus on the charcoal grill and the skewered mates that come off it. That results in top-notch pork belly, beef and chicken thighs for the meat-eaters and salmon, prawns and scallops for the fish fans as well as beancurd and vegetables for the vegetarians. Aside from the grill, there is also an astounding array of sushi and sashimi dishes, octopus pancake balls, salt and pepper squid, alongside dessert options and a long cocktail menu that befits all the best, boozy backstreet izakaya joints in Japan.     Great location. Food was amazing! Very good portion & size, quality and cooked to perfection. Was also surprisingly quickly served. (And it was a pretty busy night ) great staff ! And fantastic selection of drinks. Would recommend for any occasion and events will definitely be coming back for another feed & bev.

    What an absolute delight!!! It may be tucked away in the middle of nowhere but the food is tres magnifique. The food truly was amazing (best souffle I have ever eaten). Service was so friendly and impeciable. Only bad point was restaurant was extremely cold - not what you need on a cold night. Would I go back there again? In a heart beat.

    Seated at an outdoor table gave a wonderful atmosphere to a great Mothers Day Sunday Lunch. The food was fresh and tasty, beer was cold and the staff were happy to research and make a cocktail that was not listed on the drinks list. Meals sizes were reasonable and enough for our 3 diners to split 4 entrees, 2 mains and rice without anyone going hungry or any wastage. Only disappointment was the sunday/mothers day(?) surcharge that was not explained when booking or being seated. Overall a 4.5/5

    It was our first time and wanted to book this branch for the view. Didn’t disappoint! There weren’t a lot of people since it was raining. We had peaceful time with family. We get to enjoy the view and food. It was a great experience and would love to come and try it again.
