Best Restaurants for Quiet Conversation in Dupont Circle

The hotel itself is historic of course but this restaurant was rather soulless. Food portions are huge to substantiate the minimum cost of $34 per dish. The quality was very good. When the waiter didn’t come back to collect the credit card we went to the counter to pay. Not somewhere I would bother returning to but I hear the rooftop bar is worth a visit!

La Tomate has become a favorite for the following reasons: - genuine Italian cuisine, expertly prepared and presented -- including all pastas house-made - professional, friendly waitstaff who provide attentive service with no annoying "hovering", constantly interrupting your conversation with tablemates and trying to be your new best friend - lovely atmostphere, lots of light with big windows (and shades for when sun is too much) - it's quiet enough, even when busy, to be able to actually have a conversation with your tablemates without shouting Four of us had dinner there yesterday evening and it didn't disappoint in any respect. So if you're looking for a restaurant that offers all of the above, you won't go wrong with La Tomate. And you will be supporting a local, family-owned and operated business as well.

This place is amazing, and that’s from someone who lived in the Balkans for several years. Each dish is more delicious than the last and for $49.99 all you can eat, it’s a really good deal. Waiters are very knowledgeable (it seems almost all are Serbian, Croatian or Montenegran). Very highly recommend!

Fred & Stilla served wonderful cocktails and dishes. Presentation was elegant. The service was friendly and attentive.
