We've been serving the people of Braintree and beyond since 2015 and in that time have humbly become ‘one of Essex’s best restaurants.’ We have received recognition from the AA, having been awarded an AA Rosette for ‘culinary excellence’ for five consecutive years, and then in 2023 we received our second rosette, putting the restaurant amongst the top 10 restaurants in Essex. Our food is of course one of our main focuses, but we don’t just stop there. Attentive, relaxed and friendly service is as important as the food and our objective is to make your visit an enjoyably memorable one. Our exceptional wine supplier, Peter Watts Wines (based up the road in Coggeshall) allows us to offer you delicious wines of an exceptional quality. The Punch Bowl is a 17th century newly refurbished restaurant and pub located in the heart of rural Essex and the Crouch Valley and South Essex salt marshes. Chef Patron Rob and Front of House Manager Sally run a Two AA Rosette-rated restaurant, offering a nose-to-tail style menu with unpretentious dishes that focus on flavour. Everything is made in house - from bread to mayonnaise, and we use local, seasonal and organic ingredients. Our menu changes daily as the season's best comes in. The menu will always feature day-boat fish, meat, offal, rare breed steaks and excellent vegetarian cookery. We offer two or three roasts on a Sunday and hold regular exciting food events which showcase classic cookery and intriguing ingredients.Our beautiful garden bar has a lawn and York-stone patio looking out across the farmland of Paglesham and the River Crouch.     The food was fresh, delicious and plentiful! Very good value. Cocktails were great and also reasonably priced compared to other places that are similar. Staff were friendly, smart and nothing was too much trouble. Will definitely be back!

    As always we were warmly greeted and shown to our table.. Orders taken . Drinks delivered quickly as did warm flatbread and dips! (So moreish). Staff attentive, friendly and always well turned out. All three courses were served fresh and delicious. Not our first visit but the standards are kept very high. Well done all. Will return again soon.

    We sat outside for a family birthday. Excellent food and service, plus the kids loved the play equipment and outdoor space in general. Can't wait to come again!
