- CCherieVIPSan Francisco Bay Area •26 reviews5.0Dined 3 days agoSince moving to ATL a year ago we've had more than our share of poor restaurant experiences that have left us underwhelmed. Poor Calvin's changed that narrative for us. Everything from the service to the food was exceptional. The atmosphere was very relaxing and unpretentious. The service was thoughtful and expert. Above all else the food was plentiful and delicious. It strikes me that this was an example of a chef & staff that has a well organized kitchen and execution. The seafood was cooked to perfection, the seasoning on point. The cocktails powerful, creative and well executed. Thank you Poor Calvin's for restoring my faith in the ATL food scene! - SSonyaLas Vegas •2 reviews5.0Dined 3 days agoBeyond expectations for sure. It begins as you pull into the Hyatt. You get valet parking that is validated: meaning the restaurant will sign off on it for parking. You walk into this beautiful hotel and walk towards the elevators where a beautiful woman at a podium greets you and takes your name for the reservation. She also stamps your valet ticket to validate parking. You go into the elevator, which is not scary at all, and press the POLARIS button. It opens up to a beautiful restaurant, THE POLARIS. So beautiful and the host greeted us very politely and knew my name, which made me feel special. :) We get our table in the lounge. It was my sister and I, but this place is made for any type of intimate setting. Anywhere you sit will give you a view. Moments later our server comes. His name was Michael. Very polite, funny, and smooth. I say smooth because he just always had the right thing to say. He advised us he'd served 40 years and this is by far the best culinary and bartending he's experience. I served and bartended for 12 years and he wasn't wrong. Everyone is helpful. Even behind the house workers seemed beyond polite. The FOOD, oh LORD, was amazing. We got the pheasant and Oscar platter and the pheasant was amazing. You can never go wrong with a steak either and the steak was made of perfection. The pheasant was sitting on a bed of more flavor. We left not even a lick left. I forgot we got appetizers. SHould have started there ! The pork belly was spectacular and the dessert was suburb. The prices are right on. I had no problems smacking putting my card down. It was perfect. Happy Birthday to me. Oh shoot, i forgot. We don't drink but they did have nonalcoholic mocktails that were amazing. Also beautiful. I definitely recommend to come here as much as you can. The views and my pictures look amazing. I love this place and would come again and again if I could. I made these reservations last year and am from California.More infoPolarisPrice: Expensive• Contemporary American• Downtown•4.8
- BBrittanyVIPAtlanta •8 reviews5.0Dined 7 days agoSweet Auburn BBQ features delicious BBQ and southern classics with an Asian twist, a nod to sibling owners Howard and Anita Hsu’s cultural upbringing. The concept originated as a food truck and operated a counter at the Municipal Market (historic Sweet Auburn Curb Market) before taking over the brick-and-mortar previously housing Pura Vida in 2014. Sweet Auburn BBQ has locations in Atlanta (Poncey-Highland) and McDonough. Make sure to park in the parking deck across from the restaurant to receive validated parking; otherwise, you will have to pay a grip to park. Sweet Auburn’s smoked wings are a popular delivery item in my household. But my husband and I finally made an in-person visit for the February 2024 Indo-Chinese Dinner, a collaboration with popular pop-up Dhaba BBQ, The Chai Box, and highly heralded new Doraville soju tasting room Minhwa Spirits. We ordered: From the Specialty Menu: Curry Brisket Bao, Brisket Rendang From the Regular Menu: Pimento Cheese Wontons, Two Item Combo Plate (pulled chicken, smoked wings, Thai Chile Brussels Sprouts, mac and cheese), Jade Claw We did not have a bad bite! The pulled chicken was surprisingly moist and flavorful, the brisket tender, and the Brussels sprouts were spectacular. An added benefit was that the Brisket Rendang was so flavorful as a leftover. Needless to say, we will be back (word on the street is that the Banana Pudding is a must-eat), and Sweet Auburn BBQ has crept onto my ATL BBQ favorite list.More infoSweet Auburn BBQ - Highland AvePrice: Expensive• Barbecue• Poncey-Highland•4.8
