Koshō Restaurant at The Barlow is a modern Japanese and sushi restaurant in Sebastopol with a progressive focus on food, local ingredients, and sustainability. We utilize local purveyors for fresh produce and meats as well as national and international providers for fresh seafood and sushi grade fish. Koshō derives its moniker from the condiment of the same name, Yuzu Koshō. Known for its spicy, acidic and balanced nature, it appears throughout the menu in various forms; including Meyer lemon, grapefruit, and satsuma orange koshō. Our chef, Jake Rand, has traveled to many of the famous markets in Japan and has a vast knowledge of selecting top ingredients and the freshest fish and has over 20 years of experience preparing them.

Since the middle ages the elegant porticos of Bologna, Italy have a meeting place for the public as well as a place for business. Paolo Pedrinazzi (who is from Bologna) and Kat Escamilla, owners of the new Portico trattoria , bring this experience to Sebastopol. They even have monthly Regional dinner parties with live jazz.The setting includes an Italian fountain on their cozy patio. Portico offers light table service and counter ordering. Excellent Italian wines are sold in the restaurant at retail pricing; refreshingly unpretentious.     The whole experience was a pleasure and we look forward to returning. Beautiful space. Excellent cocktails. The Butter Beans were AMAZING! And the Sausage Pizza was a big WOW! Very kind and considerate service.

    Went for lunch with a pal. We started with the calamari, attractively presented and oh, so very good. Really an exceptional menu item. My pal had one of the poké bowls, and I had a California roll (real crab), an order of the hamachi nigiri, and an order of mackerel (which was replaced by a similar and equally tasty because they were out of mackerel). The presentation of the nigiri was elegant, and each had more fish than rice. We both enjoyed our meals. Recommend trying Kosho if you haven't been. It was quiet on a Monday at lunch.

    We really enjoyed our meals. We each (4) had a different meal and all were delicious. The wait staff was fantastic, the live music enjoyable and the outdoor seating comfortable. The meals are on the expensive side, but it is California and the portions are more than enough.
