We like to have fun in the kitchen. We serve small plates so you can try more than one dish. We use local ingredients wherever possible. We’re inspired by where we live, places we’ve been and things we’d like to do.
Excellent restaurant. Delicious food and great service.
All three of us ordered the steak frites. Th3 sera and accompaniments were very good. Three pieces of steak. They were so tough that we could only chew through one piece. I mentioned this to the waiter and that we all had the same complaint and he just walked away. No comment. Did no even try to fix it. Disappointing
Amazing food, drinks, and service! Highly recommend it for any occasion.
The best compliment I could pay to Fauna is the clear fact that this restaurant has continued to excel in its food quality, innovative food presentation, excellent wine selection and service. I have been dining there regularly for the past 5 years and I would highly recommend Fauna.
super delicious. great food and knowledgeable and friendly staff. will be back again soon.
Came back to see what has changed. No more specialty cocktails (too bad!), and lunch menu was a lot of seafood. Very small proportions for what you pay. I had the potato gnocchi and took me five bites to finish it. My friend chose the burger and told me it was all right. Wines are overpriced.
Fine restaurant, good quality and innovative stuff coming out of the kitchen. Overall experience felt a bit rushed. First course arrived when we were enjoying cocktails, main course arrived literally the moment they cleared the plates of the starters. We had to slow them down.
Awesome all around. Drinks were unique and fun with a meal prepared perfectly.
Second visit at Fauna, enjoyed the food, the service and the ambiance.
Unfortunately, as is the fashion in many restaurants throughout Ontario & Québec, the trend to natural wines and private imports seems to open the door to the acceptance of many restaurateurs too accept sub-quality wines!!?? We tasted four different wines by the glass, that were poor excuses for wine!
Hardly any fruit or body, and unfortunately major defects, that I would never serve to my guest and let alone a paying customer. There many quality vintners throughout the world that make top quality wines, following various bio or biodynamic methods, that do not have these defects. Please do your customers right by offering good quality products. Regards, Benoit Brassard
I am never disappointed when I go to Fauna. It is always an experience and love when there is something seasonally new on the menu. This time is a wonderful mushroom dish. Delicate and delicious.
We have a wonderful evening at Fauna. It was a Tuesday night so it wasn’t crowded and thus was a very peaceful atmosphere. Our server was incredibly attentive and gave suggestions for both food and drink at Fauna, as well as in Montreal for the next leg of our trip. I had the oysters to start, which were delicious though nothing out of the ordinary. The mushroom main and the cabbage pancake (which had a longer name that escapes me) were amazing. I had my doubts about the pancake’s mix of flavors, in part because I didn’t recognize some of the ingredients, but it was an incredibly interesting dish and a great way to start our Canadian road trip. We finished the meal by devouring the violet chocolate bar. Would love to return the next time we’re in Ottawa.
Excellent appetizers and small plates! The crab, shishito peppers and bison tartare were my favourites.
It it very noisy and hard to have a conversation at the table.
A friendly welcome from the fauna staff, and an excellent explanation of the menu ensured that we had a wonderful dinner. Our particular favourites tonight were the the bison tartar, swordfish and the mushroom main which all were perfectly prepared and presented. Fauna is consistently delicious and creative.
That was the best tasting duck I've had in a long time.
Lovely lunch, great choice in menu and perfect wine selection by the glass. Top notch.
Excellent as always - one of my favourite places.
I can appreciate that they change the menu often, however it was very limited in options and I simply did not find anything that interested me. I’m sure it would’ve been great, but we decided not to eat there and went somewhere else. It’s a place where you’d want to see the menu before booking.
Excellent diner, everything was perfect. Service and food are top notch.
Table wasn’t ready when we arrived. Shuffled around and then seated. Very noisy. Difficult to hear across table. Food and service good.
I highly recommend the dry aged steak platter for two, however when we were in last, our steak was overcooked and not as enjoyable as usual. Our server also recommended a feature appetizer that was a bit too unique for our liking and a bottle of sparkling wine that was not to our liking. Overall, I recommend Fauna but like most places, can be hit or miss.
Gets a little noisy when busy but food is delicious
Always a pleasure to go there, and their lunch is very reasonably priced. Service was great; the server was able to answer all of our questions and give great recommendations.
Sat at the bar and enjoyed great food paired with amazing beers and super nice staff. Keep it up!
Outstanding service and the food is consistently tasty everytime we visit. It was a quieter day on Sunday evening and the waiter came by over 5 times to see how we were doing.
I am never disappointed when I go to Fauna - for business and personal.
We had an amazing experience. The service and food were beyond expectation.
The server we had, Catherine, was very pleasant, polite, always with a kind smile on her face and on top of that she was also very knowledgeable of the menu and with an impressive way of presenting the wine list. :)
It was my wife's Birthday we were celebrating and Catherine knew how to keep it a secret till the end in order to surprise her with the desert. It happened exactly as I planned.
So far, FAUNA was one of the greatest experience I had in the Ottawa food scene.
And Thank You!
The inventive menu is matched by fun decor, unique cocktails, and some very interesting wines and ciders. My only knock is that the wine list doesn't include Canadian wines, which runs counter to the whole local sourcing ethos. Deleting some of the imports to make way for some delicious VQA would be a move in the right direction.
It is a pretty good place to be with my family, enough food to share, and pro cocktail.
Pretty much will come soon
I sometimes wish we had more discerning and more harsh reviews in our part of the world, where we are constantly reading glowing reviews at best and polite shrugs at worst. My husband and I love food and constantly we feel disappointed. I started with a bison tartare, about 50 grams of meat at the most, potato chips and a small taste of three different sauces to accompany. It was good but not exceptional, just as the price suggested. I wasn't sure what to ask for the main course, so I asked the waiter for a suggestion and he told me that the pork chops were succulent. Well, not at all. The best was the German wine and the tartare. My husband had a dish made with a kind of chilli, that should be served without the small layer of skin, but the chef here does not know it. His Halibut was OK.
From my perspective, this is a nice little Restaurant, with excellent service and very pretentious food.
we had a delicious meal and will go back again soon
My husband and I enjoyed a meal at Fauna while visiting Ottawa. It’s an absolute gem of a restaurant. The food and service was wonderful and the signature cocktails a real treat. The service was also impeccable.
It was a great experience and the food was delicious.
The worst complaint I had about the food was the lobster bisque had absolutely no lobster...which was disappointing though still tasty.
The table they gave us was in the window and that negated most of the atmosphere the restaurant had to offer. It would be better if reservations gave us a choice of where to sit (within reason).
Fauna also needs to keep their website menu up to date as my partner had hoped and planned to try the rabbit but it wasn't offered anymore.
Overall it was a nice and enjoyable treat but an expensive one. I would tell my friends to check it out, though only if they can afford to drop $200.
Exceptional dining experience at Fauna. Loved the oysters, sous vide lamb and the rabbit leg. Thought the fried soft shell crab was too "fried" (it tasted of the oil it was cooked in) and a tad salty for my taste. Would love to have them work on acoustics - noise level was excessive. Amazing wine list but would have liked to see more bottles that are wallet-friendly. Would definitely go back and try the duck special.
It is a great restaurant, only issue is the noise level. The interior is all hard surfaces, no where for sound to dissipate, making it hard to have a conversation with your company.
Server was excellent with recommendations. We will definitely be visiting again!
Excellent restaurant. Tout est délicieux, y compris l’option végétarienne. Choix de vins intéressant. Mais très bruyant. Aux heures de pointe, surtout.
Great restaurant. The food quality was amazing and the way it is prepared it is amazing! Worth every penny!
An okay experience. Service was fantastic but thought the food was very unimpressive considering our bill.
