I went to late dinner with a friend. We had both been to Fatty Crab before and remembered having good experiences. At the door, we noticed they now have a "B" sanitation grade, but thought to try anyway. We came into the restaurant and were immediately told that they were "out of a lot of things" because they "weren't supposed to be open" that night. We decided we were okay with that and ordered drinks and dinner. While we ate, we one of about 3 tables seated inside, with one group sitting outside. The restaurant suddenly started playing music very out and had a boisterous group at the bar. Our waiter came back several times asking if we wanted more drinks, though we responded "no" every time. It felt as though we were being rushed to leave. I think perhaps we should have just left and perhaps they should've closed as originally planned. Our food was good and I enjoyed my cocktail, but the service left a very bad taste in my mouth.

Absolutely delicious. We had the steamed pork and veggie buns, soft shell crab with the chili sauce, Brussel sprouts and coconut rice. Everything was divine!! I went back again the very next day with another friend. Lol. Our waiter was also excellent and provides great suggestions.

I don't get to travel to New York that often but when I do I always try to make time to visit. If you want a relaxed evening with great food with your friends then this is the place to go. Unless you have a strong preference for what you eat, let your host make some recommendations for you after guiding them on your taste preferences. Everything is to share to order a few different dishes and just tuck in.

Yes, it would be nice if the outside tables weren't so close to the road but you'll be too busy chatting and eating to really bother you.

Great service.

Would highly recommend.

Unusual Asian food but small neighborhood restaurant. Shared dishes that come when hot so too much came at once.

Overrated. Food was ok but fatty (not fatty in a good way like pirogie belly, just fatty) and way more spicy than o like (I like spicy!). But it was ok.

As ever, this buzzy Meatpacking joint lived up to expectations. Great food, including a delicious soft shelled crab and a side of amazing Brussel sprouts. Yum! Noisy, packed and vibrant. Great fun.

The small bites and the appetizers are unbelievable - next time I'll tripple up on the appetizers and forego the mains, although the duck was awesome. The Panchito (a tequila shot, a sangrita shot, and a Tecate beer rimmed with kalamansi juice and chilli salt) is just great - so refreshing!

A local favorite! Get the soft shell crab and mussels while still in season. Both awesome. Grab a seat outside if you can.

Long weekend in NYC, walked the Highline. Checked open table for nearby Asian. The Fatty Crab was perfect! Almost empty at noon, we had the entire staff to our group. All of the staff was very friendly and offered great suggestions for our lunch options. The $25.00 unlimited watermelon mimosas were fab! We tried two different appetizers, steamed buns with pork bellies were delicious! Then two of us split an entre (shrimp and pork bellies) absolutely wonderful! I highly recommend this restaurant!

The food here was phenomenal with strong, well-balanced flavors. The quail egg shooters were divine with gorgeous presentation. Just keep in mind that this is the one dish at the restaurant that really can't be shared and they only provide one of each flavor, so everyone should order their own. The shrimp and belly was also delectable. Those were the two snacks my friend and I tried because everything seemed like something you could get elsewhere. We also enjoyed the flavors of the fish fry curry rice, which was a good portion of fish, though more curry broth would have been nice. The watermelon pickle crispy pork is an absolute must. I don't normally enjoy mixing fruit with savory flavors, but this was a great combination. The Brussels sprouts were just a touch too sour for me, but otherwise overall had great flavors and was really well-cooked.

Chicken clay pot was gummy/gelatinous for my taste. Friends fried fish was served very plainly. Food could have used more spice. Maybe we ordered the wrong things? Waiter was very nice. Ambiance was nice as well.

Fatty Crab is a unique restaurant in New York, offering a Southeast Asian bistro experience with all the flavors and spices of the best traditions of that region, with the hospitality and intimacy of a neighborhood hangout à la Paris or Rome — or New York. It's an intimate space, so be ready to make friends. Many of the menu items are standouts, especially if you like it spicy. The chili sauce on their Chili Crab is good enough to drink. The short ribs Rendang just fall off the bone, bristling with an entirely different chili sauce. The pork buns rival those at Momofuku. I don't know how I missed this place for years, but now it's a firm favorite.

Fatty Crab has been a neighborhood favorite of mine for over 10 years. I love that the original dishes are still on the menu and never disappoint, but recently tried the shrimp and belly, which I loved. Looking forward to better weather to sit outside and dive into a chili crab, and the celeb sightings are great. Seems to be a SNL hangout...

Lovely atmosphere, great service. Really enjoyed the food too, even if it came all at once and we were in & out of the restaurant in less than an hour. I would have preferred a slower, more enjoyable dining experience.

Cant go too long without a crab fix. Looking forward to the outdoor tables being set up permanently. Best seat in town. Or, sit at the very small bar and enjoy the fast pace, music and the scene while enjoying some awesome cocktails.

The food and staff at Fatty Crab were amazing! Hector, the bartender and the staff took really good care of my date and me! The pork buns were deliciously different, the lobster w/ ramen noodles plate was plentiful & more lobster than noodles! Everything was fabulously seasoned and some items had a spicy kick, yay (ask the waiter/staff to point out what is spicy, if spice isn't your thing)! The drinks were stylish in presentation (ie: "Water & Coconut") & mouth watering (ie: "Chupacabra") good! Definitely going back soon & often!

Food was good at Fatty Crab, served family style. This was my first visit and went for the chili Crab! It's a neighborhood type eatery. I prefer the fancier places. However, the food was very good, although, for the price, the crab was very small. We sampled many dishes all were very tasty. Beef lovers will love the beef dish. Can't remember our servers name, but he was helpful with making menu selections. I give Fatty Crab, a thumb up.

This is the dim lit, low key, romantic restaurant with a slightly upscale, yet casual twist. The music set the tone, and fit the trendy yet opulent atmosphere with a dose of mid 90's hip hop gently streaming in the background. The friendly staff are slyly cool, yet generous . Overall a fine dining experience crammed into small Manhattan space. It feels very New York.
