Fat Fish Cantina Grill Ratings and Reviews
the food was excellent, but the service was very poor and it took almost 1 hour to get out food and the the water didn't know how to use a gift card that had 25 dollars on it and the we gave her a credit card and 40 dollars cash and she rang it right but gave us out 40 dollars back, she is lucky we are honest and gave her the money back, she didn't even seem grateful..maybe she was having a bad day..
What a surprise! Really nice dishes featuring fresh ingredients with a Latin flair! We started with a really nice lobster bisque then enjoyed some unique preparations of salmon - Grilled Salmon Champignon and a great Skirts of Fire Arrachera - we will definitely return! Service was very good and the tortillas were handmade on site.
We chose to sit in the restaurant. It was loud and more like a bar. People were walking around and chatting having drinks. The food was pretty good, just not very large portions. The server also didn't give us silverware and we waited 20 mins to eat before finally just going and taking some from another table ourself.
As a New Yorker, I appreciate Fat Fish. It has above average Mexican-American food at about 30% less than what a close comparison, Gabriela's in Manhattan, would charge. Solid tacos. Flavorful guacamole. A great cocktail and margarita and beer selection. And fire pits. I know it is not fine Mexican dining. But I liked it a lot and I will be back!
Our server on Sunday night was fabulous...we were 8 people and she was very attentative aND ..fun...she served us efficiently with a beautiful smile. We had 2 Birthdays on our table and she remembered and brought over 2 desserts to sing Happy Birthday .
The food was plenty and good however....presentation was lacking...my husband and I orders their fajitas....wow good..but not very apealing... the others on our table also enjoyed various dishes said all was very good!
I will definetly return to try other dishes ...I recommend reservations cause after 7pm it was pcaked. ..thank you FatFish
The food was excellent. Of course they had the usual deep fried and fattening food that was tasty and excellent. The Chips were home made; the salsa was super good. I grew up with a Mexican grandma, so I know my salsas. This place had GREAT SALSA. The whole table loved, loved, loved the brie, crusted with some type of nut. Delicious. I was trying to be healthy, so after the chips and brie I had the Salmon. Delicious. It was moist on the inside, but still fully cooked. The vegetables that accompanied the dish were super, super good - included asparagus! Yum. I had a red Malbec wine and that too was good. I wish I could remember what it was, I'd buy some for home. I thought the service was good. The other people at the table thought it was a little slow -- so . . . I think personalities play a part in that. Our waitress was very accommodating, so I give her FIVE stars. Its casual dining, but clean, and great food with healthy choices and fattening choices, so . . . something for everyone.
We had reservations and were seated right away in the Patio area that is very comfortable with a fire pit for ambiance and cool nights. The server was very good and so were all the expediters. There were couples, groups and big family tables all throughout. The music system was great not too loud. Food was wonderful as always and we dine at Fat Fish often because it has been consistent for all the times we have gone.
We felt there was too much emphasis placed on the concept versus good food and value. Two shortcomings were weak margaritas, come on guys, and house made flour tortillas they bragged about that were almost like cardboard. On the plus side service was much better than average.
We recently had a group of senior executives from London attending a conference in San Diego. As I live here I offered to pick them up from their downtown hotel and take them to someplace out of downtown which showed the "beachy" local culture. Fat Fish proved perfect.
They very much enjoyed the atmosphere, the vibe, and of course the food was great.
Each and every one expressed their enjoyment of the restaurant selection.
My friends and I dined at Fat Fish on a Sunday evening. We ordered drinks and waited a long time for them to arrive. The waitress took our order and 45 minutes later we still had no food. When it did arrive one of the orders was wrong. The waitress told us they were out of carne asada so the chef ( ? ) substituted something else. Another order was to have been prepared vegetarian, but it was incorrect also. Our waitress kept apologizing for things and ended up buying 2 dinners and a dessert for the table. It appeared that the restaurant was seriously understaffed that evening. There are so many good Mexican restaurants in town that we probably won't go back to Fat Fish. It's too bad about the service, although our waitress tried very hard, because the food was actually good.
This was our first time at the Fat Fish Grill. The ambiance was friendly, casual and comfortable. The service was good and the decor interesting.
The food was so good at a very reasonable price! My yellow tuna frita was scrumptious surrounded by a delicate sauce with veggies and pasta! My husband got the potato wrapped sea bass. He declared it delicious!
We will be back for more!!
No great expectation, so no disappointments. The server was great but the service was not. Our appetizer never arrived. But the main courses - fish burrito and surf and turf tacos were very filling so didn't need anything more. We were in Pacific Beach for the weekend and it fit with the vibe.
Food was awesome, our server just missed every chance at making it a good experience. Forgot to give us napkins until 5 mins after our food arrived, which took a very long time to arrive. Luckily the food was really good, which partly made up for the horrible service. Maybe he was having an off night, but it was not a good experience.
