Fat Canary Ratings and Reviews
We came the first time 5 years ago when living here briefly and have come every time we are in town.
The oyster gumbo was so wonderfully flavorful, followed by possibly the finest grilled salmon ever. On the plate was also pickled beet cubes that proved that you don’t have to over pickle a vegetable to lift it up , also French Green Lentils,
Pistachios, Goat Cheese, Pesto, Basil Butter. Heaven!
My husband had the mozzarella to start and the sublime guinea fowl with Parmesan Gnocchi, Garlic
Rapini, Charred Tomato.
The wine list remains strong and priced fairly. The only problem is how often we get up here from NC. This is my favorite place !
The Chef and everyone on the line are gifted and the entire front of house is too. Keith was our waiter the other night, keeping us relaxed and pacing us and the kitchen for a perfect evening!
The food and service was outstanding. The specialty cocktails were superb. I had the blood orange martini which was delicious as well as the apple pie old fashioned that my husband enjoyed. We shared two appetizers, the fresh mozzarella with va ham and the ginger bbq pork ribs. Both were delicious, especially the ribs. I had the pan seared sea scallops and my husband had the salmon. Both were delicious! The scallops were cooked to perfection. I highly recommend this restaurant. It is very pricey, however a wonderful treat for a special occasion!
This is our favorite local restaurant and even though we don't visit often, they had our dining history and knew it was my husband's birthday. We even made a special dessert request that came from an older dessert menu which they were able to accommodate. My sister-in-law requires a gluten- and dairy-free meal and the waiter and chef didn't blink an eye. We will definitely back in a few months for my birthday!
Absolutely Wonderful! The location is really good but it comes down to the food and the service. The servers were incredible and everything from the specialty cocktails, the onion soup, the seafood and table 15 for two will keep us coming back for a very long time!
Although small and somewhat crowded, this restaurant is the best of the best. The chef is outstanding. He gives personal attention to everything and produces interesting and lucious combinations of flavor. Presentation is excellent. The reception staff is welcoming and personable which sets the stage for your wonderful evening. Every member of the waitstaff gives outstanding service.
We dined with another couple at Fat Canary for the first time on a Sunday evening before Christmas, and we will definitely be back. My husband, who is sparing with praise of restaurant meals, pronounced this meal the best he had ever had, and the rest of us agreed. The food, from appetizers/soups/salads to entrees to dessert, was expertly prepared, perfectly seasoned and absolutely delicious. The cocktails, the wine, and the service were also outstanding. We have dined with this couple in Williamsburg during the holiday season for over 30 years, but our previous restaurant of choice was the King's Arms Tavern, where the quality of the food has declined in recent years. I had read about Fat Canary, a restaurant with a similar price point and stellar reviews, and I suggested that we try it instead. Now a yearly holiday trip to Fat Canary will become our new tradition. Just a tip--make reservations sooner rather than later if you plan to dine here. When I made reservations in October, all Saturday and Sunday evening reservations during the holidays were already taken. After the meal we had, I understand why!
This is the second time we've had the opportunity to dine at the Fat Canary. It's always a great experience to find the food is still as good as I remembered! A wonderful menu of upscale food, expertly prepared and served by a great staff. It will be on my "Must Do" list on our next trip to Williamsburg.
My wife and I had our 41st wedding anniversary dinner at Fat Canary. We were greeted with a menu that had our names imprinted on it and signed by all of the staff - how fun! Service was great, food was delicious, and the wine list was impressive. My wife had the duck and while the meat was tender, there was a layer of fat on top that was a bit tough to cut through. When we mentioned this to the waiter, the manager came by and told us since the duck was not perfect, she was deducting from our bill. That is customer focus!
Food is very good. The only down side to this restaurant is the fact that it is too tight between the tables. Every time we have been there, we were put on the long couch. When you sit there you are eating with the servers backside in your face. Sometimes on both sides. You can't even have a conversation.
Just walking in we knew we were in for a treat. Everyone was very helpful and went out of their way to be sure we were happy with our beverage selection. The appetizer and main course were perfectly prepared and very pleasing to the eye. The dessert was just as outstanding. When we come back this will be on our list to enjoy
Once again an excellent meal. I've never been disappointed. The back of the house earns their keep every time. Our waiter was polite and friendly, with good read and suggestions for what I was looking for. He even suggested a wonderful Chardonnay wine after asking the type I like. Highly recommended.
We were met at the door by Lynn's smiling face and although we had to wait for our prime seats at the table at the window, it was worth the wait because the rest of the evening went perfectly. The creamy leek soup with scallops was a wonderful way to start and the lobster lemon fettuccine was a wonderful light entree for me. My husband had the always perfect pork chop with goat cheese souffle and for dessert the chocolate mousse cake. However, the best part of the evening has always been Tink. She has made every meal there a little bit more special and a lot more fun! Thanks again for another memorable evening- we will miss you!
