Fat Canary Ratings and Reviews
Just walking in we knew we were in for a treat. Everyone was very helpful and went out of their way to be sure we were happy with our beverage selection. The appetizer and main course were perfectly prepared and very pleasing to the eye. The dessert was just as outstanding. When we come back this will be on our list to enjoy
Once again an excellent meal. I've never been disappointed. The back of the house earns their keep every time. Our waiter was polite and friendly, with good read and suggestions for what I was looking for. He even suggested a wonderful Chardonnay wine after asking the type I like. Highly recommended.
We were met at the door by Lynn's smiling face and although we had to wait for our prime seats at the table at the window, it was worth the wait because the rest of the evening went perfectly. The creamy leek soup with scallops was a wonderful way to start and the lobster lemon fettuccine was a wonderful light entree for me. My husband had the always perfect pork chop with goat cheese souffle and for dessert the chocolate mousse cake. However, the best part of the evening has always been Tink. She has made every meal there a little bit more special and a lot more fun! Thanks again for another memorable evening- we will miss you!
Everything about the visit was amazing. We were celebrating a birthday, so my boyfriend was greeted with a birthday wish and personal message on his menu. The service was top notch and we never felt neglected or imposed upon. And the food was delicious! They do wonders with dishes that are full of flavor but not overly complex. The braised short rib was the best my boyfriend has ever eaten and the scallops were plentiful and flavorful. Definitely the #1 place to dine in Williamsburg in our opinion.
Absolutely AMAZING !!! i had read great things about this restaurant and it more than exceeded my expectations. The food was excellent - i had the salad with pears and goat cheese along with the pork chop. The goat cheese soufflé was outstanding. For dessert I had the profiteroles with espresso ice cream. My server William was superb. I would highly highly recommend this restaurant.
As always, great in every way..... favorite restaurant. The scallops are so great that I refuse to order them anywhere else. My wife loved the beef tenderloin. We come to Williamsburg 4 times a year and we always come to Fat Canary. Our favorite server moved from the area, but William was an able substitute. We will now ask to be seated at his table.
What an enchanting experience—great ambiance and delicious food complemented by excellent service. The portions are quite generous so we each had appetizers, then shared an entree and dessert. Rabbit Fricasee, Tuna Tempura, Braised Beef Short Ribs and Chocolate Mousse Cake.
Ray and I would like to thank Michael for his attentiveness to us for our engagement dinner. After we shared our story with him about losing our spouses to cancer and finding each other at this season of life he reached out and gave a tender hug. The service was impeccable and the food presentation was spot on. Thank you for giving us an evening we will treasure in our hearts forever.
Wonderful food and service. Foie gras was cooked perfectly, as were the duck breasts and grouper with crab and shrimp. Our server was Tink, and she was the best server. Attentive, but not obtrusive, knowledgeable about the food and wines, funny and engaging. We are just visiting Williamsburg, and she elevated the experience at the Fat Canary. A bit pricey. Entrees ran $30 to $40, but was a good value relative to the food and service quality. Overall five stars!!
Had a gift card and stayed for a week in Williamsburg. Fat Canary in Merchants square area is a well known foodie location.
We dined in 4 appetizers and found again as happens more often lately that the higher prices for appetizers is at least compensated for with larger portions
You will never go wrong visiting this esteemed restaurant
This is one of the best places in Williamsburg. Reservations are sometimes difficult to obtain, but we were quite lucky. While it is on the expensive side, it is quite worth the cost, since it is a Special Occasion place. Offerings are creatively prepared, using local ingredients. They print a special menu of they know that you are celebrating something special and the staff signs it. Such a nice touch! I highly recommend this restaurant, but caution that you will definitely need a reservation for a table, although I have lucked out before a movie once and got an open seat at the bar. Same food and service, just not at a table.
We are serious "foodies" and try to be selective whenever we dine out. We travel for overnight visits to Williamsburg just a few time a year, and whenever we can, we love going to the Fat Canary. It has been our Williamsburg favorite for fine dining for many years and again, it did not disappoint. The food and hospitality are always top notch. We miss seeing Tom Powers, but his dream lives on.
Everything was great. The food was delicious like the braised rabbit app, the pork chop entree and the grouper. Our waitress was attentive, personable and well informed. Her recommendations were spot on. The apple pie old fashioned cocktail was unique and tasty. We seated a few minutes early and enjoyed friendly chit chat with other diners visiting from Maryland and Illinois.
We celebrated our wedding anniversary at Fat Canary. We had the special, a Grouper, that was superb. Overall the experience was nice, but the server was conversing with people at the very next table and that was distracting. The restaurant was also kind of cool, meaning temperature-wise.
We had never been to Fat Canary, but we most assuredly will go back. It was quite the experience, the food was sublime, the service was top-notch, and the ambience was perfect for a modern oasis amid the Colonial-era environment. I recommend the braised beef, the scallops, and the Guinea fowl, all of which our table ordered and all of which we sampled. The portions are just right, the cocktail selection is clever, and the wine list is comprehensive. Make reservations in advance to avoid a wait and be ready to be pampered.
The restaurant was great. The people sitting behind us had one guy in his party that thought everything was so funny he had to let the entire restaurant know. The party next to us noticed the same and it really put a damper on our anniversary dinner, which is what the couple next to us were also trying to enjoy. If you want a romantic, quite dinner, I would NOT recommend the Fat Canary. The food is always great and the staff is wonderful. But in this day and age of many choices in Williamsburg, this is not my first choice.
Delicious!! The Butternut Squash soup was a tasty treat. We had short ribs and braised lamb shanks and we found them to be wonderfully flavorful. Even the jasmine rice served with the short ribs was creamy and delicious on its own. We both agree this was one of the best meals we’ve ever had. We look forward to visiting The Fat Canary again.
The wait staff could not have been more accommodating and helpful. It was a birthday celebration and it was made special in many ways keeping it quiet so the whole place is not aware of the occasion. Food was prepared in a most delicious manner and presented well.
I think it's the best restaurant in Williamsburg for fine dining. The food is absolutely wonderful and beautifully presented. The dishes are varied and genuinely creative. The wait staff is always attentive, professional and well informed. And if you like craft cocktails, you wish will be granted!
