What a great find. We were visiting W'burg and looking for a great place to dine. Fat Canary showed on several best of lists. Great service, great menu, great food . . . just a great experience. The duck appetizer is terrific. And for entres we had scallops, short ribs, pork chop and guinea fowl. All great. And dessert . . . don't miss the deconstructed carrot cake . . . or the homemade ice cream. And drinks . . . their Manhattan is truly unique. So . . . we have been here twice in four days. And will visit again on our next trip to W'burg. Thanks for a great experience.
Good food but service a bit slow.
We enjoyed a perfectly cooked meal with delicious flavors. Can’t wait until we’re back in town.
This is one our favorite places to go for special occasions.
Always terrific food and superb service!
First time dining here. Excellent all the way around.
The atmosphere in the Fat Canary is wonderful. We had great service without it being overbearing. The food was excellent as was expected. In the twenty years that years that we have visited Williamsburg and dined at the Fat Canary there has never been a poor quality meal or bad service. It is always a pleasrue to dine at the Fat Canary.
consistently wonderful..............and the key to their continued success
Spouse’s Birthday. One of our favorite restaurants in Merchant Square. Food was delishes, a oyster soup was presented. We also had a crispy oyster appetizer. We shared a very large pork chop cooked to perfection. Wife chose carrot cake. I highly recommend this restaurant.
Truly a special occasion!! Perfect service and great food! The pork chop was an interesting dish. The Branzino cooked to perfection. The service impeccable!
My wife and I had a fantastic anniversary dinner with great service. We will definitely be back before next year.
Love this restaurant!! Always a good experience, great staff, and the food is excellent! Best restaurant in Williamsburg hands down.
Amazing food & awesome ambience! We’ll be back.
This was our second time dining at the Fat Canary since our recent move to Williamsburg. We were seated outside the first time, which was lovely on a late fall evening. I was a bit concerned about indoor dining with COVID, but the restaurant’s space and protocols were fine. The service is consistently excellent, as is the food. The oyster stew is amazing, and the lobster fettuccini a close second among appetizers. The scallops, crab cakes, pork chop, fowl and accompaniments were all superbly prepared and plated. Cocktails, beer and wine offerings were very good. And did I mention desserts? Such a treat. Thank you!
Awesome night and great waitress!
I never have anything bad to say about the Fat Canary. The lamb shank was perfect. The service was wonderful as always.
Amazing food and service (as always).
One of the very best restaurants we’ve ever eaten at. Living in Princeton, NJ we have eaten at some of the finest restaurants in New York and Philadelphia. The Fat Canary’s food is better. Our yearly trip to Williamsburg always includes a night at the Fat Canary.
Tonight we had a special potato soup with roasted onions and chorizo sausage. Every potato soup has bacon. The chorizo really sets this one apart. Fried oysters were tender and far from overcooked. Just delicious.
Ample Caesar salads followed
Entrees included scallops over white beans, Kale and mushrooms. The scallops were browned perfectly on the outside yet so sweet and tender on the inside. Grouper over shrimp risotto with wild mushrooms and roasted parsnips was topped by a green chili butter. Exquisite.
Dessert we split a carrot cake which is served deconstructed and with creamy icing wedges which have limited sweetness allowing the flavor of the cake to really shine.
We have eaten here six times. Never ever has been anything but the highest quality food that is absolutely delicious.
Service is always excellent. Brandon took great care of us tonight.
Great food, great service. We will be back!!!!!!!!
Hands down my favorite restaurant. My husband is in the air force so we’ve lived in a handful of different places and Fat Canary is a place we’ll be sad to leave when it’s our time to move. We have never had such excellent service and the food is outstanding every time. What we really love is how cozy it is. Not being a huge space is makes it feel that much more special when you get a table. Also what I personally love is how well dressed the customers are. You can dress up or wear jeans with a nice top but every time we go we always notice that the customers are dressed nicely. Which honesty makes the whole dining experience more enjoyable and special.
Still the best restaurant on the Peninsula. We decided to have salads, soups, and appetizers in order to try more dishes. All were wonderful. Service was attentive but still relaxed. Actually this restaurant is a real value when you consider the quality and compare it to “average” meals in a big city.
Always a great meal and experience at The Fat Canary! Expensive but worth it!
Celery soup with oysters and sausage from Surry was quite the surprise & absolutely delicious.
Froi Gras was perfect. Short Ribs and Lanb shank delicious.
As always, we had a fabulous experience at the Fat Canary. Although it is wonderful to try new dishes, there are several that we can't pass up every time we eat there. The Crispy Rappahannock oysters were divine. We are all oyster lovers, so everyone had to get their own - no sharing! The portion was nice and large. Two of us got the beef tenderloin. Our taste buds were focused on the rosemary steak fries and the blue cheese butter accompanying the steak. Absolutely delicious! Our third person chose the pork chop which, not unexpectedly, was the best he had had in his life. Our server helped us choose a fabulous Saint Cosme 2017 Chateauneuf-du-Pape that went so very well with both the steaks and the pork chop. Dessert was profiteroles and a special homemade spearmint ice cream with chocolate bites and chocolate ice cream. Both were outstanding. Love this restaurant!
This was only our second visit to this restaurant, but once again it was a memorable experience. The food was outstanding, the atmosphere comfortable for quiet conversation, and the service was outstanding. From the moment you arrive, you feel that you are special and I highly recommend this restaurant for a special occasion or a time out with special friends.
Fabulous! Cocktails! Appetizer choices! Entrees!! Service - outstanding!
A hidden gem... This restaurant can easily match fine dining restaurants in Chicago, DC, or NYC! The lobster fettuccini starter is to die for...
Always a great dinner and service when we eat there!
Annual anniversary dinner at Fat Canary. Always a great experience. Food is great, properly prepared and presented. Service staff attentive but not overly so.
Didn't feel it was socially distanced enough. Food was good but I've had better there.
All meals were prepared and delivered in a professional manner. Attention to detail was present at all times. I felt very relaxed, not rushed. There was one party of 4 whom seemed to know the employees come in and dine with no respect of the Covid Mask and 6' rule. They seemed disrespectful towards waitrons/bus personnel. Being able to watch as the chefs prepare your meal is always a bonus.
The location of this restaurant is perfect. We were able to pop into quite a few shops before we ate and revel in the beauty of the Duke of Gloucester Street area. The food is spectacular and the server was very friendly. The tables are spaced well.
Incredible meal. Beautiful plates. Celebrated Christmas with my granddaughters. Very special.
We have a lovely anniversary dinner. Food was delicious. The waitress was tentative, very friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. Drinks were very good and we even received a nice personalized signed copy of the menu as a keepsake. We will be back the next time we visit Williamsburg.
One of the best meals I’ve ever had with phenomenal service! A fav for sure!!
Great service and amazing food. I will definitely be back!
