Fat Canary Ratings and Reviews
Delicious!! The Butternut Squash soup was a tasty treat. We had short ribs and braised lamb shanks and we found them to be wonderfully flavorful. Even the jasmine rice served with the short ribs was creamy and delicious on its own. We both agree this was one of the best meals we’ve ever had. We look forward to visiting The Fat Canary again.
The wait staff could not have been more accommodating and helpful. It was a birthday celebration and it was made special in many ways keeping it quiet so the whole place is not aware of the occasion. Food was prepared in a most delicious manner and presented well.
I think it's the best restaurant in Williamsburg for fine dining. The food is absolutely wonderful and beautifully presented. The dishes are varied and genuinely creative. The wait staff is always attentive, professional and well informed. And if you like craft cocktails, you wish will be granted!
My girlfriend and I went for a nice dinner on our "weekend girl’s trip" and it was amazing. The food was fantastic and our server, Will was at the table before we could even think to ask for anything. We made reservations and did have to wait for about 10 minutes for our table but that is completely understandable. Highly recommend you go.
Prior to your arrival the hostess tries ascertain what, if any, event will be celebrated. Our visits coincide with our wedding anniversary. This and the year prior we were presented with a menu of that nights offerings signed by the entire staff, and personalized with our names. We’ve been dining at FC for the past ten years (at least). And I cannot recall ever being disappointed in the quality of the food preparation or presentation.
I so wanted to give this restaurant 5 stars but... The entree - Guinea fowl - was perfection. The tuna tempura starter was however overwhelmed by the quantity of wasabi sauce and the profiterole dessert was simply dull. The service was slow to get going and somewhat impersonal, still worth four stars but should have been five.
As usual, the food at the Fat Canary was superb and the service was very good as well. They will even have a small note on your menu recognizing your special occasion. The downside to the Fat Canary is the noise. Forget about a quiet or intimate dinner here. The place is always full, the tables close together, the bar in close proximity to the tables...and the noise level is...well, very loud! If you don't mind the noise, its a great place to have a great meal!
We went here for my wife's birthday and everything was fantastic. They personalized a menu for her wishing her happy birthday and multiple employees did the same. The cocktails are always great and they have a large wine list. The food was phenomenal. From the soup, to the appetizers, to the seafood and duck entrees, to the dessert, we had no complaints.
From the very start all i can say are amazing things about this restraunt. It was a little noisy at first but quieted down near the end of eating. The staff went above and beyond. I took my girlfriend here for her birthday and was blown away by the custom menu wishing her a happy birthday with all of the staffs signatures. It didn't stop there, keep in mind my girlfriend is the pickiest person out there when it comes to eating out, the server got her a glass of wine that she fell head over heels for. The wine selection is outstanding. For appetizer, i got the oysters, which were cooked to perfection. For entrees the girlfriend ended up getting the new-guinea fowl dish which for a picky eater she cleaned the plate exlaiming it was the best thing she has eaten. I got the tenderloin mid rare, cooked perfectly and melted in your mouth. And to top off our amazing night desert was perfect. Both of us were extremely happy about our experience and will definitely make a stop by again in the future when we visit Williamsburg.
This was our first visit to the Fat Canary. We celebrated our anniversary dinner there prior to a theatre show. The service was excellent, from the hostess, to the young man who kept our water filled, to the personable and attentive waiter. My husband had the butternut squash soup and I had a salad. My salad was very good, fresh and tasty. His soup was even better, I would go so far as to say perfection. We shared both. My husband had the chef's special and I had the filet. Our meals were cooked just right. As an added touch, we were presented with a personalized menu signed by the staff as a memento of the evening. We will go there again and would definitely recommend it to a friend.
Fat Canary never fails to WOW me! The food is creative and absolutely delicious. The service is impeccable. We ate the ribs for an appetizer which were melt your mouth yummy. I had the halibut special with the bacon buerre blanc and crab; how can that not be good? My husband had the seared scallops which were also delightful. Recommended wholeheartedly!
Very disappointing. We drove 10 hours from Florida to have a $200 dinner specifically to celebrate my wife’s birthday at the Fat Canary...was not a repeat performance from last year’s visit. Our server, Shannon, was not responsive or attentive. My filet was not medium rare plus, rather medium well, but server did not return to our table until well past half way through the meal. Sides and dessert were only average. Not a private setting...all lined up with other diners which puts the servers rear end in your face on either side throughout the meal. Would need the owners contact to consider returning.
Went to Fat Canary for our wedding anniversary dinner and the food and service exceeded our expectations. Our server William was attentive but not intrusive and offered great recommendations for wine and appetizers. We are looking forward to our next visit but wont be waiting for a special occasion.
My husband and I went to Fat Canary for our anniversary dinner and it was one of the most special meals we have ever had! From the moment we walked in the staff was on top of taking care of our every need. They thoughtfully personalized our dinner menus with our names and a happy anniversary message, the service was spectacular and the food was phenomenal! Our server, Tink, was stellar and made sure our night was perfect and unforgettable. Thank you so much to the wonderful staff of Fat Canary for giving us such a special evening.
We had a very enjoyable meal at the Fat Canary. The food was delicious and the presentation was very attractive. Our server, Benjamin, took excellent care of us. He provided my husband with a sample of two beers, so he was able to choose the one he preferred. He checked in with us often throughout the meal, to refill water glasses and make sure we wanted for nothing. We finished our meal sharing the Fat Canary's signature chocolate pyramid at the recommendation of a friend. It was fabulous. Dining at the Fat Canary was a memorable end to a lovely Williamsburg vacation.
