The service was amazing, and made this an experience that was enjoyable. The server, the hosts, the server assistants were all great. Friendly, knowledgeable, and prompt with any need.
The food was not good. The only take away was that they have a lot of salt in the kitchen. Every dish was extremely salty. Tried fried oysters, great concept with verde sauce but poorly executed. Tried the tuna, cooked perfectly, just salt with salt, Frois Gras was pretty, good presentation, but another poor execution in preparation. The rabbit was the only decent dish on the table, a nice fall dish and refreshingly a reasonable salt level. We have heard good things about the restaurant, but I question my friends judgement after trying the food.
Amazing service, bad food. Not going back.
The ambience , service , and food were excellent. We both had fish. Both dishes were prepared expertly and were quite flavorful. The waitress was observant, funny, and pleasant--excellent. We recommend it highly...
Delicious dinner and Neal was an excellent server! I say walking distance if staying in Colonial Williamsburg
We were in Williamsburg celebrating our 40th anniversary. On recommendation from friends we reserved a table at Fat Canary. We haven’t had a dining experience that fabulous in many years. Thank you for a perfect memorable evening. Will be the first place we come when we go that way again

Everything was perfect!
We had a wonderful memorable dinner. Would highly recommend!
The best meal that we had in Williamsburg
Excellent food and service! Great place for a special occasion.
Food and service are outstanding.
Best restaurant in the U.S. East of the Mississippi.
Table had a pillar in directly in front of it but otherwise the ambiance and service was good. Food had some strengths and weaknesses. Ribs were to die for, pork chop was very good, the goat cheese bread pudding was an interesting experiment that I am still a little unsure of, but salmon paired with lentils did not quite work - though the salmon was excellent. On the whole I would definitely return.
Since the Colonial Taverns are currently closed in Williamsburg, we were happy to have discovered Fat Canary. We opted for indoor seating though patio seating is available. Our server was wonderful, food was fabulous and guidelines were being adhered. We’re planning to go to Back Fat Canary on our next visit to Williamsburg.
Excellent farm-to-table meals, very generous portions, outstanding three-Michelin star service. Highly-recommended!
If you are interested in a high quality meal that is not you’re everyday restaurant offering, then you will enjoy The Fat Canary. Between the food, service, and atmosphere you will not be disappointed. Not only was the food enjoyable, but the noise level is so low you can have a lease to conversation without competing with noise from other dinners, staff, or other background sounds.
Great outdoor dinner and people watching! Nice wine and drinklist and excellent fish preparation. Looking forward to retuning.
Madeleines were amazing.
Scallops were perfectly prepared.
Our server was exceptional— she recommended just what we were looking for — we were the bride and groom Saturday night and we can’t remember her name — BUT she was the BEST!!!
Awesome experience and amazing food! Completely social distanced and each server was exceptional.
Fat Canary never disappoints! The food is excellent, the service is impeccable, what more can you say.
On of our favorites! Food is always amazing and they always go above and beyond on the service.
Great food and atmosphere
We loved our experience at the Fat Canary! Our server,Neal, was excellent, answering all our questions with precise information! He suggested other drinks and food items which enhanced our time there. Even though it's a little pricy, it was worthy every penny! Would most certainly recommend it highly to others! Thank you!
Anniversary dinner, great as always
Well run and well organized pertaining to safety, and distancing. Server was professional and spot on when presenting menu and special of the day. And of course the meals served were outstanding and most savory. We have never been disappointed and continue to bring out of town visitors here to enjoy the fine dining experience at Fat Canary.
Everything was wonderful!
Wonderful meal and experience-Fat Canary never disappoints!
Just another great meal at Fat Canary. Erika, our server, was fantastic - making great suggestions about food and wine. The meal was beyond delicious. The Tuna appetizer? Can I have that every day? Please! Can’t wait to come back.
We were pleased by the quality of food but not overly impressed by the fact that the white beans came out of a can. At your prices they should be fresh. The quail was a bit on the tough side.
We come to Fat Canary when we want to have high end food in Williamsburg. There are so few places and Fat Canary stands out among the few there are. The food is consistently good and the chef is on top of his game.
We love game and the fricassee rabbit is always outstanding. The fois gras is also excellent. I recentl had the guinea fowl and my husband had the quail. They were both delicious and well prepared with interesting sides.
My only complaint is the acoustics. We were eating during Covid and even with the tables spaced out and many fewer people, the noise level is too loud for a high end restaurant. We both have excellent hearing and often had to lean over the table to hear the other clearly. They need to install some noise-absorbing acoustic tiles on the ceiling or otherwise soften some of the hard surfaces. It's easy to spend $350 for two and for that kind of money, you want the atmosphere to be calming and quiet enough to hear your fellow diners.
That said, i would always recommend Fat Canary. We came from Manhattan and miss the abundance of good restaurants. We feel fortunate to have Fat Canary in town.
We enjoyed our meal very much, including Tuna Tempura, the Arugula and Frisée salad, and the Guinea Fowl with Parmesan Gnocchi. All delicious!
The only surprise was the lack of ambiance inside the restaurant. We would have predicted more charm and ambiance, but the inside was unremarkable and didn't match the unique quality of the food.
We had a wonderful time. The service was fantastic, the food was cooked perfectly.
Fantastic repeat visit 8 years in between. One of the very best seared Foie Gras I have eaten. Wife's caesar salad and scallops with white beans and bacon were outstanding. The Quail was crispy and amazing. The pace was smooth and waitstaff very attentive but not obtrusive. This is a must visit restaurant.
We were impressed by the quality of the dishes and the great service.
Food was excellent and very nicely presented. Service was great!
The food has always been perfectly prepared and delicious. We eat at the Canary once or twice a year, visiting the shops first and then dining. Having come from New York City 14 years ago, we learned early on that this was one of the best restaurants in central Virginia.
Absolutely one the best meal we have had in a long time. Highly recommend
The food was delicious. Expertly prepared. Also, a great wine by the glass selection. How often do you come across a 2010 Bordeaux at the price they offer? Never. I asked if I could buy a pint of their espresso ice cream. I was denied the opportunity of at home indulgence, so we will undoubtedly return.
Was in Williamsburg for four days. Four different restaurants. This was by far at the top of the list. The scallops and Grouper were outstanding. Nice dining room. Exceptional service. Would return again and again when I am in town. Highly recommended
Incredible food and service. Will return in a second!!!
Exceptional quality in food taste and specialty drinks. Great place. Great deserts! If you don’t go, you’ll be missing out on a special experience.
