Stayed at the local WhiteHouse B & B for the night. Decided to go
Since the Fat Canary is our favorite restaurant, we make reservations several weeks ahead of time when we travel to Williamsburg. Each course is outstanding from the appetizers to the desserts. Some of our favorite entrees include the brined pork chop with goat cheese soufflé, the beef tenderloin, and the fish special of the day. If you like chocolate don't miss the dark chocolate mousse triangle.
Visiting from out-of-town. Fabulous meal & service. Wine list exceptional & reasonably priced for quality of offerings. Accommodations made for kids. Inviting & lively atmosphere. Knowledgeable staff. Would definitely return.
Amazing service and the food was delish! The cauliflower soup needed some work... but the rib appetizer and braised short rib entree was to die for!!! I love that they offer entree options at half price +$5 for kids. Very cool that they do that... esp w a foodie 10 year old.
I had the tenderloin and I liked it, but the asparagus was undercooked. I have been across this country and dine out often, and usually order the tenderloin. It would have been nice to list the ounce size of the tenderloin on the menu. I thought the food was expensive for $42. I won’t be back.
We were there 2 notes in a row. The first nite the ribs were overcooked and tough. The second note the pan sered halibut was not pan sered and was overcooked.
My husband and and I have enjoyed 2 dozen or more dinners at Fat Canary in past years. We both left a bit disappointed after this experience, and $200 lighter. Our food was overcooked, and the Guinea fowl was tasteless for the first time ever. Our server only came to take an initial order and to drop off our bill,so there was no personal touch or connection made in our service like in times past.We drive over an hour to get there, and really have to prepare and make arrangements to go,so needless to say,we will most likely choose another place where we receive value and excellent service and experience for the amount of money we spend.
Always an awesome experience!!
Sibling reunion weekend. Friendly waiter. Amazing food and wine followed by scrumptious dessert. Walkable location. Could not have been better.
Very excellent for fine dining right in the heart of Duke of Gloucester Street. Very convenient to the Shuttle Stop right next door. Reservations were very easy as usual to make through OpenTable. The restaurant was proactive in calling me to see if we had any celebrations they should be aware of and they also called me the day of our reservation to notify us the A/C was out in the dining room but they had a portable unit. We kept our reservation and very glad we did. Neil, our server was excellent for our party of four. He recommendations on specials and menu items was on point for each of our party. Service was excellent, presentation of menu items including desert were also excellent...kudos to the kitchen staff. I would recommend Fat Canary to any party who enjoys fine dining. It isn't cheap, but you expect higher pricing when the food, service and ambiance are professionally done and the Fat Canary was great for our party.
Great meal, great service. Always a must whenever i am in Williamsburg.
Tuna appetizer is world class. Waiter was both attentive and invisible...perfect. He also recommended a wine for my guinea fowl that was superb. Just outstanding.
Try cooking quail in gravy base as opposed to searing it.
William was fantastic and so were the meals! My favorite restaurant in Williamsburg.
Always a do over when we are in Williamsburg. Lynn was great sneaking us out the side door during a rain storm and making sure we had a great time once again.
This is the best restaurant I've ever eaten at in Williamsburg. Everything from food prep, timing of service, etc. were really excellent. The price was fair, but definitely not a bargain. The restaurant decor is ok, nothing special - certainly not on par with the quality of the food. But those are the minor things. Overall, this was a great experience. I will always try to eat here when I am in the 'burg.
Fat Canary was wonderful, as always! I brought my daughter for dinner when I visited her at William and Mary. We both had the pork chop, which was tender, juicy, and flavorful. The cooked apples and onions complemented the pork perfectly. The cheese soufflé served alongside the pork was extraordinary. The dish was an outstanding combination of flavors. For dessert, I had the macadamia nut tart, which was top quality and delicious, without being overly sweet. My daughter had the Madeleines with cooked berries, which was an exquisite dessert. Our waiter was friendly, professional, and helpful. He made us feel welcome and well-cared for. I can't wait to return!
Great dinner!! Our favorite in Williamsburg!
Our waiter, William, was the best! Thank you!
The food and wine were delicious and our Server Jeremy was outstanding.
Th worst part of eating at Fat Canary, is all other food is a massive disappointment for a week or so afterward. It's the best food in the Williamsburg area by a mile.
Service was outstanding. The food, all of it, was amazing! Made a special day for my parents amazing!
From the reservation to the bill, everything was perfect!!
Wonderful meal & service!
I had the rock fish and the oyster soup. It really was too good to describe you have to try it.
Unbelievable. Out of this world. Bring your appetite, all of it. My wife and I shared Rappahannock oysters, just a few seconds in very hot fresh oil with spicy onion and tomato slices; a salad of very fresh Manakintown greens and a delicious dressing; and the rockfish special, big piece with shrimp and a lot else. Delicious desserts, cappuccino, tea, polished off with Armagnac.
Incredible meal and night. Williamsburg was not like this 50 years ago !
Service and food were incredible. If you are in Williamsburg, have dinner at Fat Canary.
always great service, wonderful menu, very fine wine list and mixed drinks. our birthday, anniversary, and nearly every special.occasion spot.
Food always excellent . server William “Wilson” was very attentive, enthusiastic, entertaining. I wish we had a restaurant of that quality in my area.
Celebrating a birthday-- tables were a little cramped, but service was great, food was great, can't complain!
This place is known as the best restaurant in Williamsburg, and that title is well deserved. Our server was very thoughtful and provided us excellent recommendations. The dining area is relatively small, which means your neighbors are pretty close. So, not noisy per se, but a little less intimate than other settings. Food was delicious. Make sure you get reservations well in advance!
Very comfortable evening with excellent, innovative food, warm, competent and friendly service. Brandon was our waiter and he did an excellent job, attentive but not hovering. It was our anniversary and we were given an autographed copy of the menu - a small thing, but very considerate.
My husband and I returned to the Fat Canary expecting a wonderful meal. We weren’t disappointed. The food was excellent. The pork chop was a hit as was the special rock fish dish.
The attentive wait staff were informative, engaging and helpful.
We will be back when we return to the Williamsburg area. Our dinner guests feel the same.
Food was fantastic as usual. Amiable, prompt service. We love coming here.
Perfect 29th Anniversary !!!!!
In what has become an annual event; we stop in Williamsburg on our way home from Florida, meet old friends, and have dinner at the Fat Canary. The food, service, and ambiance make for a truly memorable dining experience. As a W&M alumni, over the years we have regularly traveled to Williamsburg and have frequently been disappointed with the local restaurants. The Fat Canary is by far the best restaurant in town. And, as a bonus, when you are done with dinner you can take a leisurely walk down D.O.G. street.
Another great experience! We have dinner here every time we are in town and it's always excellent. We keep trying other places and they just don't stack up. The salmon and short rib meals are our favorites but we've tried most of the others and they were also great. The fresh mozzarella and virginia ham app is delicious and the macadamia dessert is the perfect end to the meal. Excellent wine list. Wait staff experienced and friendly, makes you feel like family. It's a bustling place so you will always need a reservation, especially in high season. Thanks to the staff for always making us feel special here!
Love this place. Service and ambiance are above par which is why my husband and I make Fat Canary our go to for special occasions. Unfortunately, I found my vegetarian meal disappointing. I would have been much happier with a really great soup and salad, but the only soup offered was fish based. We will be back, and I will be looking for a great vegetarian soup.
Good. Brandon did a great job.
There is a reason that Fat Canary is rated the #1 restaurant in Williamsburg. The scallops are the best anywhere. We are retired and live in the DC area and visit Williamsburg about 3x per year. We usually come to Fat Canary twice. I always get scallops. This time my wife joined me. I don't eat them elsewhere because they never match my expectation. The service is also top-notch. Will was very solicitous. It was my birthday and he took about 5 pictures of us. The scallops were $34 and came with a delicious cous cous medley.
Allowed me to order one half of the entree which was great as often left overs are not too tasty
Excellent food and a very attentive staff! We will definitely go back here when in town.
