Both my wife and daughter enjoyed the special squash soup as an appetizer. My lobster fettuccine was superb. The beef tenderloin was perfectly prepared as was the excellent short rib. Our server Elise was outstanding.
Superb food, attentive server. Same great experience as we had 3 or 4 years ago. This will always be a place we go when in town
Great place combined with perfect ambiance with enjoy wine and food !
Delicious food, a great find! The service was wonderful and the combination of tastes in the food was exceptional. We’ll be back many times!
Went for our wedding anniversary. Our server was great, spent plenty of time with us. Food was fantastic: creative, with excellent flavors, cooked perfectly. I had the rabbit fricasse and beef shortribs; my wife had the pork ribs and pork chop. Great drinks too. Highly recommended!
Terrific food and service
Fantastic! Fat Canary does not disappoint. We are from out of town, but enjoy visiting Williamsburg and Fat Canary is a must during our visit. Our server,Kate, was attentive, helpful and not overbearing—a perfect combination. The food—I can’t say enough! We shared a Rappahunack fried oyster appetizer which was delicious. Not overdone, fresh and crispy. We had two entrees that we shared. Seared scallops with fresh tomatoes and couscous—done just right. The special of fresh grouper with Carolina shrimp served on a bed of celery root, brussel sprouts and more and topped with a mustard thyme butter was beyond praise. Outstanding! Dessert was the chocolate triangle which appropriately topped off our meal. Very memorable dining experience which I can only savor in my memory until my next visit when I can savor every morsel! Thanks Fat Canary in Williamsburg.
The Fat Canary never disappoints! We started with the house made mozzarella, ham, pesto and heirloom tomatoes. Lovely presentation, very fresh and easily enough for us to share. Our entrees were the king salmon and braised beef short rib. Plates arrived very timely, piping hot, and both were plated beautifully and were delicious. Dessert was a soufflé with grand mariner sauce--positively scrumptious! Service was prompt and cordial without feeling rushed. The Fat Canary is always a treat when we visit Williamsburg.
Our favorite Williamsburg restaurant. Reservations are a must. Food, service and wine list are consistently outstanding. Wait staff is attentive and responsive. Food is always perfectly prepared and presented. I had specials of the day (mushroom soup, grouper entree) and my wife had beef short ribs. Cinnamon crepes for desert.
The Fat Canary serves fantastic food, service and atmosphere. My husband and I look forward to eating at this fine restaurant each time we visit Colonial Williamsburg. On our most recent visit we enjoyed dining here three of our five nights in CWB.
Top of the list in Williamsburg. Excellent staff, first-class service. Dining room is a bit plain. Some tables are better than others.
Had a great meal. Got the special which was grouper. My wife did too. Cooked to perfection and very warm and flaky. The oyster soup was hot and tasty. Our server, Erika, was polite, attentive, and knowledgeable. Cocktails were full measure. My wife ordered a special cosmopolitan with special directions and the bartender made it to perfection. Wonderful place to go on special occasions. Pricey, but worth it.
We had a wonderful experience! Dinner was excellent and our server Neil was phenomenal. They even presented us with a personalized and signed menu for our Anniversary.
In my humble opinion the Fat Canary should be more than a Five star rating. Everything is wonderful. The Pork Chop and the Chocolate Moouse are amazing. Everything is superb.
We love The Fat Canary. The food is very tasty. The waitstaff is pleasant and responsive. We highly recommend this restaurant.
We went early so we could get to Christmas Town. Our server was attentive and dinner was delicious! Already looking forward to next year’s holiday visit.
We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner at the Fat Canary and highly recommend it if you are in the Williamsburg area!!
An amazing dinner! The best we have had in a long time!
A group of friends had dinner here on the first Tuesday of December. Luckily, we had made reservations, as people stopping in had an hour wait or more. The food was excellent. From the beef tenderloin to the salmon and everything in between everyone was happy with their meal. Our waiter was attentive without being intrusive. The atmosphere was festive without being noisy. All in all it was a delightful evening and everyone agreed we would go again.
What can I add to what has already been stated ad nauseam by many others...great!! Food, service, and atmosphere above reproach. Not cheap, but not a ripoff either; in my opinion, a well balanced dining experience. A rare restaurant with a wine store that doubles as a cellar.
The best restaurant meal we have ever experienced. The food was delicious and the service was great.
I have eaten here probably 12 times. It is (hands down) my favorite restaurant east of Richmond. I love the open kitchen. Waiters are knowledgable and VERY attentive. The food is absolutely fantastic and flavorful. Wish I had 2 stomachs!!
So let's get one thing out of the way, this technically is a fine dining restaurant , however it is attached to a cheese and beer shop that is an institution in the heart of colonial Williamsburg which does a little bit to damage the ambience.
I had a pan seared King Salmon which was quite tasty with basil compound butter served on lentils pistachios a little bit of goat cheese and pickled beets. My companion had a sous-vide duck breast. this was unfortunate as they met the preparation was not listed on the menu so while she was expecting a crispy skin and fat on the breast piece of bird, she was presented with something roughly the texture of offal. The restaurant was very courteous and comped the dish and replaced it with an appetizer size lobster linguine which was fine. Service was quick and very welcoming. This wasn't a bad dining experience but this is really a $20 a plate restaurant passing itself off as a 30 to $35 a plate restaurant because it's in the middle of a tourist trap. I wouldn't recommend that you rush out to this place if you're in colonial Williamsburg but you could do a lot worse.
This is not our first visit and it won’t be our last.
It was a effect experience. Delicious food, knowledgeable wait staff and outstanding service.
We had such a wonderful, romantic, delicious meal at Fat Canary! The food was outstanding! The staff were fantastic! They even had our favorite wine in the house, a Gewurztraminer! We will definitely be back!
Great service and recommendations. Uniquely creative and tasteful menu selections. Delicious wine selections
They staff was very attentive and the food was delicious. They called to confirm the reservation and made my wife feel special on her birthday.
We had a wonderful meal. We both experimented by selecting appetizers of fricassée of rabbit and lobster with fettuccini. Both were excellent! The beef tenderloin entree was so tender and tasteful. We also adventured in our choices of dessert. My husband selected the macadamia nut pie and loved it. I tried the molasses madeleines that included a bit of sweet potato sauce, a scoop of ice cream delicious nuts and a bit of brown sugar. Nummmm! This a place that is intended to be enjoyed.
We were disappointed in Fat Canary this trip. We’ve been to the restaurant 3 or 4 times previously. It just wasn’t as good as it used to be. Prices were quite high and I don’t think they correlate eighth earnings value.
Meal was excellent as usual. Service likewise was up to the norm. This is truly an outstanding Restaurant.
The four of us had such a wonderful time! Really great food and atmosphere!
We had a wonderful dinner at Fat Canary. It is located in the middle of Colonial Williamsburg and I didn’t expect to find creative cuisine in a tourist area. What a wonderful surprise. Food and service excellent. If you enjoy good food and visit Williamsburg, a stop here for dinner should be on your schedule.
I had visited the cheese shop, owned by the same people, earlier in the day and purchased a bottle of wine there. They gave me a wonderful recommendation for an Australian Pinot that was inexpensive but yummy. We enjoyed that for pre-dinner cocktails. These folks know their wine and food!
Food was wonderful portions were appropriate Highly recommend it. Our server was delightful. Met all my expectations
Fat Canary is a gem. From the warm energized staff to the open kitchen filled with skilled, passionate food people you can tell they mean business.
We loved our pork chops, tempura tuna and the veggie option was even scrumptious. Wine list is refined and interesting. Make sure to plan ahead... only complaint is that it was so hard to get into.
This place never fails. Service and food are always outstanding.
Reliably superb dining. We enjoyed dinner with extended family during the Thanksgiving holiday. Service was outstanding. Beef tenderloin was perfectly prepared. The chef was able to modify the scallop dish to accommodate special dietary needs and it was delicious. Two in our party ordered the halibut special and were a bit disappointed. I have had seafood special there before and it was amazing so I think that it was just this particular preparation. We shared one of each dessert; you cannot go wrong with any of them.
Always fabulous food! This is absolutely our favorite special occasion restaurant and has been for quite a few years. Consistently provides an exceptional evening event.
A fantastic experience all the way around! The food and the wine list are outstanding and the service top notch! One of our favorite restaurants anywhere!
Fat Canary serves once again a meal that was outstanding. Their selection of cocktails was unique and each one delightful. Food was awesome.
