About Farmstead Table
Opened in 2012, Farmstead Table blends French technique and new world innovation in a classic American country kitchen. Inspired by local farmers, our culinary team believes that fresh and pure ingredients don’t need too much tinkering and can speak for themselves. The innovative food is complemented by lively cocktails, domestic craft brews, and finely curated wines. Great food in a cozy and unique atmosphere. Had brunch on Sunday, enjoyed the Quiche and others with me enjoyed their dishes (eggs, bacon, potatoes and French toast). We also had their homemade 'poppers' which I HIGHLY RECOMMEND....especially with the fresh made fruit jam. Since all 3 of us wanted coffee, they bring you a french press pot. Coffee was okay, on the moderate to weak side. We had a table near the window so we had a great view for people watching...but be warned since the heater is also along side the window, and it was a sunny day, it is especially warm in that area which can make it a bit uncomfortable after an hour.
For all 3 of us, this was our first time at Farmstead and we all agree we would come back for another meal. The prices are great for the quality and quantity of food. I would best describe it as casual American with some flare mixed in with a few dishes. Oh, we were also able to customize our orders (i.e. the eggs and bacon included 3 eggs and we asked if we could have 2 eggs instead).
Very friendly place with excellent food and a nice atmosphere. We had the brussels sprout tacos (yes) which were fabulous, the pop overs (first class) and the fish and chips which were very good, too. Out waitress was very kind because we, two friends who had not seen each other in 25 years , had a lot to catch up with (which of course she could not know). She was super patient and respectful and very friendly. We completely overstayed our check I would say (well, arrived early) but never felt rushed. Thank you!
Reliably great food. But it does get expensive even when sharing a dessert and one glass of wine....$180 for 3 people. Crispy brussels sprouts were the favorite dish and look a lot better than neighbor's Brussel sprouts tacos. Cauliflower very good and beets good but not so interesting. Artic char grilled all the way through and very good on the lentils. Quite a yummy apple tart.
Our first time at Farmstead Table, but certainly not the last. We enjoyed the popovers, roast chicken, beef tenderloin, and finished with the rustic apple tart. Everything was delicious, cooked appropriately, and portioned well. The service was fantastic and we enjoyed the quaint and cozy setting.
This was my second trip and a disappointment compared to the first visit. My friend and I both had the John Dory fish special. It came with a flabby grey skin on the fish (which was poached, so skin should have been removed), and the flesh was stringy and greyish, when it should have been flaky and white. Honestly, we should have both sent it back. Taste was bland. And it was $25, which is steep for lunch. Popovers are great, but they are not rocket science.

A regular stop when we’re in town to visit my father who lives nearby. The owner Chad, greeted us warmly, our server Libby was delightful and kind, and the food, from popover to chicken & Apple & Goat cheese salad to the hazelnut nougat ice cream, was divine! I can’t say enough great things about Farmstead Table and definitely encourage everyone to go and experience this amazing place for yourself.
First and only visit here, so maybe they have better nights. 1st, greeted by an unsmiling, seemingly occupied host, even though the place was nearly empty. Ambience is hard to describe. Simple, which is not bad, but it did not seem cozy or inviting. Ordered popovers which were advertised as "until they are gone" yet these didn't taste fresh out of oven and were tough and rubbery on outside. Not clear why these would sell out. Ordered an app of Brussels sprouts Tacos. Tasty flavors, but served on ice cold plates that chilled the shells. We ordered two entrees, one scallop, one chicken. Scallops were ok, but just that. The chicken was under-cooked. The top, under the well-browned skin, was, curiously, essentially raw. Sent back. What came back was the same piece, cut up and because of second time cooking was dry and hard in many places. When asked why a new piece of chicken wasn't cooked, the response was "it would've taken 15 minutes and we didn't think you'd want to wait.". Yet no one presented that option to see if we would mind. Ordered a bottle of wine with apps, but was told they were out of that. Said we'd look at another option, but waiter didn't ask if we had selected something else until apps were finished. At that point we passed on wine. Appropriately, the chicken dish was taken off the bill, but not charging for a poorly prepared dish, among other things, doesn't erase a very poor showing.
Had reservation thru Open Table for Sunday Brunch. Were told our table was being prepped but it took 25 minutes to be seated and another 10 min to get a menu.
They were out of quiche, pancakes and popovers. We got fish tacos and a grilled chicken and apple salad. I had asked for dressing on the side, but it was already dressed. Didn't want to wait for another at this point. My friend asked for a clean napkin and a beverage, which didn't happen for another 20 minutes.
Food was very tasty, especially dessert which was the pear and toffee ice cream napoleon.
They definitely could use more or better trained staff, but the food was yummy. Our bill was 85.00, so you judge.
This used to be my favorite restaurant not only in Newton but the entire Boston area. Food is still excellent, but the service isn't what it used to be. My friend is a vegetarian and ordered an appetizer and side as her entree. It came out before our cheese plate and sat on the table to cool down, without any acknowledgement from our server. My meal arrived a half hour later. We had to ask for bread.
Arctic char was perfectly cooked with a delicious, crispy seared skin. Charred rapini and Brussel sprout leaves with a curried pumpkin puree were the perfect accompaniments. My dates tenderloin was perfectly cooked and seasoned and melted in the mouth. Wine list was interesting. Can't wait to go back.
