Came here for dinner with my husband on a Wednesday night. We arrived about 5:30pm and there was only one other table occupied. We thought it would pick up as the night went on, but it did not … one other couple arrived after us. We left at 7pm and the restaurant was empty.
Service was fine, attentive enough but not overbearing … but considering we were pretty much the only people in the place, we had their full attention.
The food – eh … I’ve had a lot better. We had a charcuterie board to start – taste was ok, but not what I would expect ordering a charcuterie board – it had just one type of cured/smoked meat, house made “pate” was just some ground up meat with grain and some pieces of duck in a very oily sauce. Did they run out of cured meats on a Wednesday? Felt like some left overs put together.
Hand-Rolled Pappardelle was good, the duck and mushrooms were tasty, pasta was just ok. Grilled venison was good, but the portion was so miniscule, it looked more like an appetizer. I don’t really understand how this can be enough food for a grown person, even with the appetizer.
Our favorite thing at the restaurant was the bottle of cabernet frac we ordered, took a picture of the bottle to buy it at the store as we do not intent to come back to this place for food.
Slow service for sure, but the food was amazing. Beautiful space.
Not worth the price. Food was fine, not great, service the same.
Very relaxing brunch! The popovers were amazing, as was the service!
This was our second time for brunch, and it was fantastic both times! The popovers are delicious, choice of food items varied and all good. Love the decor and atmosphere.
Fabulous experience in every respect. Server was friendly and very personable. On a very cold night the ambience was warm and welcoming. The food was delicious. Very well prepared entrees and appetizers that tasted great. I will be back many times I'm sure. Don't miss this winner!
We usually very much enjoy Farmstead table. This time the food was not up to its usual standards. Generally we love each of the veggie small plates and the fish is also very tasty and well prepared. This time the veggie small plates seemed pedestrian, except for the sweet potato croquettes and the cod entree was average. Also, the waiter (whom we had previously had and found likeable)seemed impatient, distracted and unhappy with us (even rolling his eyes). Perhaps just an off night compared the many delicious meals in a friendly ambience we have previously experienced.
I've eaten at Farmstead Table a number of times and have never been disappointed. Recently I ate there for lunch with friends. The selections were diverse, interesting, and delicious. The restaurant is quiet, friendly, and welcoming. I will choose it again and again for good food and good atmosphere.
I met a good friend for our Christmas gift exchange, as we do every year. We wanted to try a new place and I was very happy with what we experienced here. The ambiance was warm and slightly playful/ modern. The service was great. The food was the best thing of all- delicious app, entree and dessert. I had the beet salad for an app and really enjoyed the yogurt/ zataar sauce it came with. I loved my tagliatelle with duck- the pasta was obviously fresh and the seasonings delicious. My friend was dissapointed that there was no vegetarian entree but she enjoyed her fish dish. We had an apple concoction for dessert that was yummy! Prices were fair enough and menu was very interesting and creative.
Will definitely return here.
It was too hot in the restaurant but the food was great!
We had a very good meal and our waitress, Beth, was excellent. It was the perfect spot for catching up with friends and enjoying a winter meal in a cozy spot.
We had a little company party and it was I delightful place to enjoy a healthy meal and exchange gifts
Delicious!!! We enjoyed every part of our three-course meal. Appetizers were tasty, though delicate portions. Entrees were wonderful combinations of flavors and textures, and were good-sized portions. Desserts were also enjoyable. Service was pleasant and unobtrusive, and we got helpful answers to our questions. Altogether, a lovely place for a great meal, and quiet enough for good conversation even though the place was full.
Excellent meal! I definitely plan to return and bring others. The service and hospitality was was wonderful and the food delicious.
I like this place, but the food is spotty. Sometimes really excellent and sometimes just OK. The service and atmosphere are great.
The evening was perfect. Our server was extremely helpful and very pleasant. All in all a very nice experience for our first visit here.
This is a secret gem hidden in Newton Center, great for an intimate dinner, all fresh (farm to table). Do not miss the Tacos Brussel Sprouts
The food is terrific and I appreciate the serene ambience allowing for pleasant conversation. The other night was the only time we had less than pleasant service. Nothing nasty just a bit scattered.
Second visit. Now one of our favorites
Everything was delicious
We were there for lunch. The restaurant prides itself as a server of “farm-to-table” fare and it certainly didn’t disappoint. The menu was varied and very interesting, with many unusual and appetizing choices, many of them vegan or vegetarian. I had a combination of the soup du jour (a mushroom, onion and potato soup that was creamy, yet vegan, and delicious), the salad of the day (with pears, dried cranberries and feta) and a popover. My dining companion had the brussel sprouts tacos - also fabulous.
Enjoyable Ladies Lunch
Enjoyed our meal once again, consistency is important. This is a charming small welcoming place that serves good food. What did we have?
Mom: The burger and fries on a brioche roll, classic and delicious.
My friend : A veggie and ancient grain bowl, perfect egg on top.
Mine: Trout over vegetables , perfect!
French pressed coffee, great!
Desserts: not wowed by the desserts, but them again that doesn’t best represent this charming place tomdone, I think they the two we had, a warm chocolate pudding with repberry creame ice cream was fine but not a wow. My friend had a flattish disc like level fruit tart with saffron ice cream. She said the flavors were spot on but it was not the best rustic fruit tart that I have seen visually, skimpy but again, flavors spot on.
Go enjoy this place, enjoy your meal and time together.
Always excellent Excellent staff and food/ drinks
Great fresh and healthy food and excellent service! A comfy cozy place for a Sunday brunch!
Great food in a cozy and unique atmosphere. Had brunch on Sunday, enjoyed the Quiche and others with me enjoyed their dishes (eggs, bacon, potatoes and French toast). We also had their homemade 'poppers' which I HIGHLY RECOMMEND....especially with the fresh made fruit jam. Since all 3 of us wanted coffee, they bring you a french press pot. Coffee was okay, on the moderate to weak side. We had a table near the window so we had a great view for people watching...but be warned since the heater is also along side the window, and it was a sunny day, it is especially warm in that area which can make it a bit uncomfortable after an hour.
For all 3 of us, this was our first time at Farmstead and we all agree we would come back for another meal. The prices are great for the quality and quantity of food. I would best describe it as casual American with some flare mixed in with a few dishes. Oh, we were also able to customize our orders (i.e. the eggs and bacon included 3 eggs and we asked if we could have 2 eggs instead).
Very happy with the Farmstead. From the drinks, popovers right to the dessert everything was delicious. I would certainly go back.
Our server was superb. The wine list was more than satisfactory.
Very friendly place with excellent food and a nice atmosphere. We had the brussels sprout tacos (yes) which were fabulous, the pop overs (first class) and the fish and chips which were very good, too. Out waitress was very kind because we, two friends who had not seen each other in 25 years , had a lot to catch up with (which of course she could not know). She was super patient and respectful and very friendly. We completely overstayed our check I would say (well, arrived early) but never felt rushed. Thank you!
We had read some great reviews prior to booking here. Parking can be difficult at certain times as it is near a major T stop pickup point. The tables are very close together. The waitstaff is knowledgeable and friendly. We chose to have the steak dinner for two and were extremely pleased.
Reliably great food. But it does get expensive even when sharing a dessert and one glass of wine....$180 for 3 people. Crispy brussels sprouts were the favorite dish and look a lot better than neighbor's Brussel sprouts tacos. Cauliflower very good and beets good but not so interesting. Artic char grilled all the way through and very good on the lentils. Quite a yummy apple tart.
Our first time at Farmstead Table, but certainly not the last. We enjoyed the popovers, roast chicken, beef tenderloin, and finished with the rustic apple tart. Everything was delicious, cooked appropriately, and portioned well. The service was fantastic and we enjoyed the quaint and cozy setting.
I dined with my 2 young adult sons. We all loved our meals and the wine. All three meals were nicely prepared and delicious! Can't wait to return.
This was my second trip and a disappointment compared to the first visit. My friend and I both had the John Dory fish special. It came with a flabby grey skin on the fish (which was poached, so skin should have been removed), and the flesh was stringy and greyish, when it should have been flaky and white. Honestly, we should have both sent it back. Taste was bland. And it was $25, which is steep for lunch. Popovers are great, but they are not rocket science.
Popovers were amazing. Steak was excellent. Waitress tried up selling us on appetizers, drinks, deserts. Temperature of the restaurant was a bit up and down, cold when we got there and stifling hot as we left. Food was great, I️ would return.
Always a perfectly wonderful experience .
A regular stop when we’re in town to visit my father who lives nearby. The owner Chad, greeted us warmly, our server Libby was delightful and kind, and the food, from popover to chicken & Apple & Goat cheese salad to the hazelnut nougat ice cream, was divine! I can’t say enough great things about Farmstead Table and definitely encourage everyone to go and experience this amazing place for yourself.
My fish was raw in the middle and had to be sent back, but once it was fixed it was very good! Everyone else’s meals were great.
Tasty food, great service, nice room. The helpings are just right in size - not too large, and not too small. Always ask the waiter for specials, they are always excellent.
I was with two people who had never been there and they were raving about it afterwards. Small menu with GREAT choices!
Perfect spot for a birthday brunch! We enjoyed the atmosphere and all of our meals were delicious.
First and only visit here, so maybe they have better nights. 1st, greeted by an unsmiling, seemingly occupied host, even though the place was nearly empty. Ambience is hard to describe. Simple, which is not bad, but it did not seem cozy or inviting. Ordered popovers which were advertised as "until they are gone" yet these didn't taste fresh out of oven and were tough and rubbery on outside. Not clear why these would sell out. Ordered an app of Brussels sprouts Tacos. Tasty flavors, but served on ice cold plates that chilled the shells. We ordered two entrees, one scallop, one chicken. Scallops were ok, but just that. The chicken was under-cooked. The top, under the well-browned skin, was, curiously, essentially raw. Sent back. What came back was the same piece, cut up and because of second time cooking was dry and hard in many places. When asked why a new piece of chicken wasn't cooked, the response was "it would've taken 15 minutes and we didn't think you'd want to wait.". Yet no one presented that option to see if we would mind. Ordered a bottle of wine with apps, but was told they were out of that. Said we'd look at another option, but waiter didn't ask if we had selected something else until apps were finished. At that point we passed on wine. Appropriately, the chicken dish was taken off the bill, but not charging for a poorly prepared dish, among other things, doesn't erase a very poor showing.
