Farmhouse Inn & Restaurant in Forestville, California is a boutique bed and breakfast resort that also offers luxurious fine dining to the public. The restaurant is staffed by a Michelin starred chef and fifth-generation Sonoma farmers who work together to create a truly gourmet seasonal menu at Farmhouse Inn & Restaurant.
While the menu is always new at Farmhouse Inn & Restaurant, guests can often enjoy Thai spiced gazpacho or peach salad with a marcona almond pesto for a first course. Second courses include octopus, chanterelle mushrooms and clam marrow bone, followed by a third course of halibut, lamb, rabbit or seasonal vegetables. Desserts and wines are included on the prix fixe menu at Farmhouse Inn & Restaurant.
A friend and I dined recently while in wine country. We had an enjoyable evening, but we had expected an outstanding meal. Everything was described well, but did not seem to deliver on consumption. We noted that several courses were a little 'cool" which was suprising. we both agreed the rabbit trio was the brightest spot in the meal. Our server was outstanding and he made up for the shortcomings in the meal. We would return to try again because we felt it might have been an off night.
We had our dinner there to celebrate our 20th anniversary and we were not disappointed. It started off with a menu that says "Happy 20th anniversary" (of course I needed to let them know ahead of time), and it was later scrolled up and wrapped with a straw for us to take away ... something of a keepsake for our memories - nice touch!
We chose the 4-course. The food was excellent from beginning to the end. We were most impressed by the soup (sort of Thai style) as well as their famed main entry "Rabbit, Rabbit, Rabbit". The Elk dish was also best I have tasted - aged to perfection and delightfully full of flavor.
It was not cheap, but still less expensive (and well worth it) than the ones in the "metropolitan" Bay Area.
We enjoyed the wine pairing with the 5 course dinner for our 4 year anniversary and it was FABULOUS! Would love to be able to stay at the adjoining inn some day as well...maybe for 10 year!!
From its charming setting to exceptional service and superbly prepared food, our entire experience was a 10+. We chose the food and wine pairing and, despite food limitations for one of us, had an exceptional evening. The staff was gracious and accommodating, the setting delightful. We look forward to returning on another visit to the Russian River Valley.
Possibly the finest meal we have enjoyed outside of France, this dinner for four won rave reviews from all four foodies seated at our table. Quality, execution, and presentation shone. Service was flawless, warm, and unobtrusive. Wine selection excellent. One week later, we are still raving about it.
We did the three course meal with wine pairings and it was all excellent. I can't say enough about how good this was and how good a time that we had. My wife was celebrating her birthday and they really treated her well with some personalized touches.
Had a fantastic meal here. We enjoyed the four course option and bought a bottle of wine from a wine tasting we had been to earlier. We still ended up buying a half bottle of the Hirsch San Andreas as well! I started with the Tuna which was divine. For Second course I had the Atlantic Scallop which was incredibly tasty, for main course the sumptuous Bodega Bay Black Cod - I'm a big fan of Black cod and this was terrific. For dessert I had the theobroma which was rich and tasty and sent me off happily in a food coma.
We had a perfect dining experience. The food was sublime and the service was impeccable. Everything was done "just right", but the atmosphere and waitstaff weren't stilted or pompous in any way. It was relaxed and friendly, and the waitstaff were very professional yet had a sense of humor. The perfect place for a special occasion.
Wonderful evening! We both did the 4 courses and glad we did. Experiencing all the different flavors and exotic choices of octopus and rabbit. We arrived early and we also were seated right away-- that was so nice.
Every year, we finish our Napa/Sonoma wine-buying trip with dinner at the Farmhouse. We consider it to be the best area restaurant. The food is creatively prepared and the ingredients seem excellent. And the wine list! We had 12 cases of r condo but ordered off the menu as the sommelier always us into new wines that open doors for later trips.
Great service, great food. A wonderful splurge and a fitting last meal of our Sonoma/Napa experience. The Sommelier was extremely knowledgeable, and she did not make us feel uncomfortable when discussing our preferences and choices. The three course prix fixe was perfect with the addition of elk on the fall menu and the inventive Rabbit Rabbit Rabbit (rabbit three ways). We also appreciated the quiet setting and attentive service.
We were staying at the Farmhouse Inn and had planned to have dinner at the restaurant. It was truly a wonderful experience. We included the wine pairings with our meal and that aspect was excellent. The food was outstanding and so was the service. Great for a special occasion.
Unbelievably wonderful food and service! This was my second visit to Farmhouse Restaurant. I thought there was no way it could live up to the first…and it did!
Begin with a memorable first course of sake cured Ahi tuna, followed with a succulent Atlantic scallop second course. The main course boggles your mind. There are so many amazing choices...salmon, halibut, rabbit prepared 3 different ways, a pork chop with warm pancetta or Akaushi beef tenderloin. I chose the best tenderloin I have ever eaten. It could be cut with a fork and the flavor was incredible. Of course the dessert was a perfect ending to A Special Night. We had the Blenheim Apricot Soufflé. It melted in your mouth and the soft apricot center was a surprise. My only complaint was that I wanted about three more servings. The pricey meal was delicious with unusual flavors, artistic presentations, and four or more choices per course. The entire staff anticipated your needs and took
pride in their attention to every detail . The Farmhouse is truly a unique adult experience for that special occasion when your budget can handle a $200-$300 gourmet indulgence ."
Absolutely amazing food! Great wine pairings from a very knowledgeable sommelier! Highly recommended!
Top notch dining in the middle of the forest. We didn't stay at the Inn, but the grounds looked lovely. Everything we ordered was delicious and beautifully prepared. Unfortunately, we didn't get to try the wine as we had spent most of our day in a brewery and needed and alcohol break, but from what we saw the sommelier was attentive and the wine list was impressive.
The service was exemplary -- very attentive wait staff and knowledgeable sommelier. Food was high quality and very fresh. The ambiance was a bit formal for my taste but I would still recommend this restaurant without hesitation for a special occasion. My wife was even treated with a special dessert for her birthday!
The Farmhouse has three areas to dine. The entry way, the main dinning room and a secondary room bordering the patio. Eating in the main dinning room is bar far the better experience. Unfortunately we sat in the secondary area. A great part of the meal in a high end restaurant is the ambiance. This is lacking except in the main dinning room
The food was not cutting edge. I have been to the Farmhouse on many occasions. The food used to be more cutting edge and interesting. Right now I found it ordinary as opposed to extraordinary. The food was well done, nicely presented but nothing extraordinary.
The service was disappointing. The waiter came to the table immediately after we were seated and disappeared while we read the menu over and over and over again waiting for a reappearance. On his reappearance he was somewhat robotic and did not apologize for the wait.
I will wait awhile before I return.
The sommelier was fantastic in pairing our courses with delicious local and international wines. The signature rabbit dish was mouthwatering. Another of the favorite dishes we tried was the octopus and it didn't disappoint. Finished off the meal with the souffle, which was amazingly light and delicate but with fabulous flavors of apricot and the mint chocolate chip dish. The whole evening was such a treat, it was a perfect way to celebrate two special occasions for my wife and I.
While the food, service and ambience were great it was felt that the service was rushed. In a fine dining establishment there should be more than 5 minutes between courses. Perhaps they were just being efficient! But when the maitre d' tries to remove your wine glass before your bottle of wine is finished It feels rushed... trying to turn the table.
It was the highlight of our girls' trip, and we both love dining & wining. The gentleman escorted us to the table is very polite, and the waiter who served our table was friendly and fun to talk with. Food was fantastic - especially rabbit, their signature dish, and gazpacho with a taste of Thai. The only pity thing was that there was no list of wines even though we did "wine-pairing". They gave us a copy of menu of the day, but there was no list of wines paired with food. Being in one of the most famous wine regions in the world and at the 1-star Michlin restaurant, I expected a better communication around wines too, on top of food.
If you want perfection this is the restaurant to come to. Everything from the decor to the luscious food is the best in showcasing California cuisine.
We came here to celebrate my husbands birthday and my sisters 60 th birthday. 3000 miles away they traveled and said it was the best dinner of the trip.
Everything was 5 star!!!
The food was all freshly made with the greatest of care. Appetizers were the bursts and tomato which was unearthly delicious, and the foie Gras which melted in our mouths. The grilled octopus was tender and nicely paired with the most delicately prepared potatoes. Halibut was impeccably fresh, delicately seared, once again melted in or mouths. Finally, the rabbit! It was presented beautifully and cooked perfectly, not overdone or dry, tender and succulent. The rabbit is truly a signature dish the can take pride in. Service was all superb, formal but relaxed and perfectly paced. The staff went out of their way to obtain the requested roses for the table. The sommelier paired all of our wines with specicity and competence. We will be back.
Just plain outstanding. My wife and I mixed and matched various appetizers so we were exposed to four dishes and the Rabbit, Rabbit, Rabbit. We finished the meal off with the caramel ice cream. Everything exceeded our expectations, including the service!!! We will go back next time we are out there.
We wanted to dine at a place that had exceptional food. I stumbled upon this place and so glad we did. Food was excellent and the service was possibly the best I'd ever had. Very friendly, professional.
The Farmhouse is a must for anyone in the Sonoma region. The service is impeccable and not rushed at all. The four course selection was inventive, creative and taste to perfection
all in all a good meal, but not michelin 1-star outstanding.
the food, which was a three course prix fix with wine pairings was good. not great. the wine pairings were good not outstanding. esoteric in nature, tasty, but not sure they really went that well with the food.
representing the entire meal from the group: the goat was outstanding. the lamb tartar not so. the salmon was undercooked. the halibut was average. the beef was good not exceptional. the octupus was better than average.
the dessert was outstanding.
the port was delicious.
the service was a bit on the slow side and one dish was left out.
this place needs to be perfect to meet expectations as a michelin 1-star. this was good not great.
My wife and I have been to the Farmhouse Restaurant several times for special occasions and have always been very pleased with the experience. The food is excellent, the service outstanding, and the atmosphere calm and relaxing.
Excellent, imaginative food for every course, tasteful décor, staff strikes a good balance of being down to earth but not too informal, good size portions - not too much or too little.
First, I have never written a review before but I felt compelled to after dinner last night. We went to the Farmhouse Inn after eloping in Sonoma. The team there made it extra special. First they were gracious as the ceremony ran over and we were 30 minutes late...they found a way to make us comfortable and moved things around to accommodate us. As it was a harried day I can't thank them enough.
From the moment we arrived the service was unbeatable and really was only beaten by the food and wine themselves. The Maitre D' (Eric Gardon), the wine director (Allyson Grouch), the host and the team we had was phenomenal. The flowers on the table in recognition of our day and the true care they took to ensure it was a special evening made it truly the perfect end to our day.
This will truly become a place for us to go annually on our anniversary. As a bit of a foodie I can be a harsh critic, but everything was truly superb. Our sincere thanks to everyone there!
Every aspect of the experience was phenomenal, would recommend this for any special occasion.
A secluded, peaceful and gem of a restaurant, deep in the heart of wine country, where they will treat each of you as a rockstar.
A memorable dining experience! Each dish was perfectly executed and paired with wines. I highly recommend Rabbit, Rabbit, Rabbit & Apricot Soufflé. Staff was gracious, knowledgeable, attentive but unobtrusive.
Everything was perfect! It started with the beautiful setting. The staff was incredibly helpful, professional and kind. The sommelier, Alison was a delight! We opted for the wine pairing at the last minute, and it was just delightful. We had the green gazpaucho with lobster, hamachi crudo, rabbit, and the king salmon. For dessert, the star was the housemade carmel ice cream with maldon salt! The whole experience was amazing and we can't wait to go back. Everyone from our servers to the sommelier made this experience so memorable.
The tasting menu had numerous interesting and unusual choices and the wine pairing was outstanding. The presentation was lovely. The service was efficient and friendly and the noise level was low enough for easy conversation. Overall a wonderful evening.
We celebrated our anniversary at Farmhouse recently. It was a lovely Sunday evening, and from the moment we were seated until we left, we were very well taken care of. We took the server's suggestions for the 4 course meal and had a wine pairing. Each part of the meal was delightful, the sommelier's choices (and descriptions) were perfectly matched, and we very much enjoyed the evening. So much so that we made reservations for 2 weeks later on the way out - that's a true testament to the food and service we received.
As for menu choices, the green garden gazpacho with lobster was terrific; the foie gras was exceptional; the rabbit, rabbit, rabbit was both complex and satisfying at the same time; and the Blenheim apricot souffle was amazing (apricot jam in the center rather than creme Anglais took this dish to new heights).
We'll be back very soon, sharing this great experience with friends.
everything was great and the chocolate dessert was exceptional. the best ever!
Everything about the Farmhouse Inn was exceptional. The setting is quaint and peaceful. The staff are friendly, knowledgeable and attentive. And the food was outstanding. Everything was well presented, perfectly prepared and full of flavor. We had the 3- and 4-course wine matching, which was perhaps the best part. The variety of wines they selected from was impressive and they made a perfect match every time. Would highly recommend the Farmhouse Inn.
One of the most memorable meals I've ever had. Excellent in every way. I can't wait to return.
Superb food (3-way rabbit), excellent local and international wine list plus knowledgeable and charming sommelier Jennifer Bishop. First rate service too. The ideal restaurant to celebrate our wedding anniversary!
