Farmhouse Inn & Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
Outstanding food and excellent service. Every item ordered was prepared perfectly. Vegetables were especially fresh. Seasoning and ingredients were a bit edgy but not over-the-top experimental. Portions were small but not minscule tasting size. A wonderful meal from start to finish!
During our 8 day wine country visit each year, two meals are allocated to Farmhouse. Only Redd in Yountville also gets two days. Both of these restaurants have outstanding food and service. Although we only come once a year, staff at each place recognize and greet us. We love these restaurants and savor every bite.
What a disappointment... I'm not sure how it even has one Michelin star! The servers had a weird vibe about them. The interior design was disastrous. But the worst disappointment was the food. I had 3 kinds of meat. I couldn't even cut the lamb chop. It was a real drag for the price we paid. Most disappointing dinner of our trip to Napa. One saving grace was the peach salad..
The chocolate soufflé was out of this world. Worth the trip just for the dessert, the rest just ok.
The wait staff hovered and seemed to be always looking for something to do. A great restaurant you don't notice the staff, yet you get impeccable service. This was not like that at all.
My family and I have been to Farmhouse 3 times so far in 2016 and have loved it until last night.
The restaurant is very expensive and quite elegant. Service and cuisine has been spectacular in the past.
The three of us ordered Foie Gras as it has also been one of our favorites. My wife explained to the waiter that she was avoiding gluten and he responded he could leave off the brioche. I asked him if he could leave it on the plate as I would like her brioche and he acknowledged he would.
The 3 orders came with no brioche and I mentioned to a server (not the same waiter) that the brioche was left off. The host of the restaurant came back to our table and said, abruptly and rudely, the brioche was no longer a part of the dish. He did not say he was sorry for the confusion, just I was wrong.
Well, I was wrong. Wrong for dining at The Farmhouse, and that problem is forever corrected, as we will not return.
Farmhouse Inn has, for the last 2 years, been at the top of my go-to "exceptional" list. This is why I choose to take my out-of-state friend of 30+ years and her husband here. Although they found it wonderful, I kept tightlipped as we worked our way through the 4 course dinner for three. First off, my friend's first water glass pour was severely overfilled and overflowed onto the table...pooling and beginning to run off the table, as the young man continued to pour the table. I had to instruct him to hurry and grab something as the water was going to start running off the table and my friend was going to use her napkin so sop it up. It was the strangest thing. Second, first course, crab salad, not only had shells in my plate but my friend's as well...huh? Third, grilled octopus was done nicely (but not as nicely as I had had before...just not as well prepared). Fourth, our table ordered two Rabbit, Rabbit, Rabbits and one beef entree. The Rabbit (my first time trying it here) being a "signature" dish was, again, done nicely, but...hmmm...didn't knock my socks off (the tenderloin wrapped in bacon - the fat of the bacon just wasn't rendered enough for my taste). The beef dish was good but nothing "exceptional." And the plating seemed off...just so-so and not as previously experienced here. The only redemption was desert, they were perfectly done and of a high standard. Waiter was great. I just don't know, for the money, if I'll go back and I can't believe I'm saying this! I was planning on taking my father there this summer when he comes into town...I'm going to think twice about that as I was just so disappointed with this last visit.
The staff was friendly and helpful. The food couldn't be any better. We loved the crab salad with pesto soup and the gnocchi with morel mushrooms & bacon. The chocolate dessert was to die for. This is absolutely beautifully presented, interesting, delicious food at a price that is reasonable for the service and quality. A must go to restaurant.
The Farmhouse serves fresh, delicious food in a lovely setting. My wife and I were there for a birthday celebration and the restaurant did not disappoint. Our dinners (we did the three course option) were excellent. I had the octopus which was tender and flavorful, followed by "Rabbit, Rabbit, Rabbit", a trio of rabbit parts - rack, loin and leg. It was the best rabbit I've ever had.
My wife's salmon was prepared perfectly and was moist and flavorful.
The wine list is excellent. We had a Dehlinger Pinot Noir from right down the road that was an excellent accompaniment to the meal.
Service was friendly, efficient and completely competent.
I only wish we lived closer!
I had dinner with some friends at The Farmhouse Inn. This is a jewel of a restaurant. All the courses for all four of us were magnificent from the creative salads, scrumptious 3-way fois gras, Liberty Duck, and finger licking desserts. Great find, and will definitely attend there again.
Every plate was well done. I didn't feel as though the food was mindblowingly revolutionary but it was well executed and every ingredient worked in each dish. And I don't think that's what the restaurant is going for anyway. The decor is stunning, with alfrescos on the walls.
We dine out all around NorCA and are not price sensitive. Sonoma and Monterey are our favorite counties to visit for dining. Farmhouse will go on our "A+" list as one of our 'must do's' for our periodic trips to Sonoma Cty. An outstanding rating for both food and service. Beautiful dining room, relaxed country setting outside the town of Forestville. Minor, minor flaws: crispy taro root on steak dish were impossible to pick up with a fork. 5-spice on beef short rib wasn't listed on the menu and not everyone loves this spice mix. One dessert suffered from poorly conceived Modernist ideas - salty black olives DO NOT improve an overcooked caramel sauce, nor does frozen unflavored EVOO - but the other dessert, an apricot souffle, was ethereal.
Much too pretentious for a hick town like Forestville, CA. Once the waiter found out we had come with a voucher from our B&B, he lectured us on and on about how that did not work, i.e. we would need to get "refund" at the B&B... but all the explaining was way too much and too long. The wine list is over-priced. Also mos of the wines that were offered non the tasting menu were from out of the county (and out of the US). Unfortunately my husband ordered 1/2 bottle of a sparking wine (based on the waiter's recommendation) that was not to our liking (too cloying and too expensive.) We were rushed into making a bad decision - which spoiled the evening. We are not going back.
The Farmhouse is a delightful restaurant in Sonoma County's gorgeous Russian River Valley. The atmosphere is always pleasant, and the cuisine is incredible. I highly recommend the Chef's tasting menu with wine pairings. This is always a delightful blend of fresh, often local, cuisine paired with delicious wines from northern California, as well as from around the world. The staff is gracious and knowledgeable. The restaurant is one of our favorite choices for special occasions.
My wife and I enjoyed our meal at the Farmhouse while on vacation in wine country. The food was fantastic and surpassed our expectations for creativity and taste. We were a bit disappointed in the service, however. Our waiter seemed a bit distracted and we felt like we got forgotten in a shift change for a while. The wine service was also a bit off. We decided to go for the wine pairings which I would not recommend nor do again if we visit the Farmhouse again. The sommelier disappeared during our main course just when we could have used a second splash of wine since the pours were not very generous. The manager did make a slight adjustment to the bill, but even then I have higher expectations for service when spending nearly $400 for dinner for 2.
We had been here before and actually stayed in the area so we could dine here again. I think it is probably one of the best meals I have had in my life! Service is professional yet friendly. The place looks wonderful and I am so impressed with what the owners have done with the grounds; such attention to detail. I think the one must eat slowly and truly SAVOR each bite because there are so many nuances. Portions are small but amazingly creative, colorful, well composed and absolutely delicious. I did not have one mouthful that wasn't a treat. Thank heavens we live close enough to enjoy this beautiful restaurant.
I am a total foodie and this is some of the best food my husband and I have ever had in our lives! Simply amazing in every way. Every single plate was to die for. Especially the ravioli! It is a little expensive but not really compared to how good the food is. Worth the drive, its beautiful over there. Can also make a day of it and go to Redwoods at Armstrong Forest!
