About FarmerBrown

In its funky and eclectic restaurant, filled with rusty decor and a lime green ceiling, Farmer Brown is a soulful eatery with modern flair. Sensational starters, like the sweet potato steak fries with spiced salt and lemon aioli and the fried shrimp and cheesy grits bites, speak to Farmerbrowns southern comfort food aesthetic. Popular entrees include the crispy cornmeal catfish platter candied yams, blue lake beans, pickled onions & sauce gribiche, the classic barbecue baby back ribs plate with pickled veggies and the jumbo blackened prawns and stoneground grits. An amazing brunch is served at Farmer Brown, with such items as angel biscuits with mushroom gravy and crispy fried chicken and waffles delighting diners every weekend.

The southern specialties extend into the drinks menu, where the front porch iced tea with flavors of bourbon, seasonal fruit, housemade ginger nectar, fresh brewed tea, served in a mason jar, is a refreshing drink to enjoy with your meal.

Farmer Brown used to be sooooooo good! Unfortunately, this will be my last visit. Mediocre food at best, slow service. They seemed severely understaffed and not once did the waiter check on our table. The bus boy had to take our check and bring forgotten items.

Once again, FarmerBrown does it again! The catfish, garlic green beans and yams were a delight to my palate. I do my best to visit this restaurant each year when I'm in town for Dreamforce. FarmerBrown is part of my dream!

pretty terrible experience. went in on a saturday night with reservations at 7pm. We were served our food by 715 and out of the restaurant by 730. We wanted to have a leisurely dinner experience but they pushed us out. wait staff was annoyed when we weren't ready to decide if we wanted dessert. would not recommend this place to anyone. food was cold and did not taste good. it took longer to get our drinks than our food.

The food was yummy -- maybe the best fried chicken I have ever tasted, the atmosphere is funky and fun but it all seemed a little disorganized. Slow service (although friendly) and they were out of menu items early on a Saturday night. We'd recommend it and would go back.

Once you get past the marijuana smoke filling the front entrance the odor still lingers in restaurant. Our meal was going well until dessert- mind you this a Friday night the start is the weekend when our server tells us there is only one selection available from the five items on the menu. Who runs out of dessert on the start of the weekend. Needless to say we all left kind of frustrated due to this.

We were absolutely stunned by the yumminess of the meatloaf... It may be the best I've ever had. Amazing dinner and drinks prepped us for a great night on the town.

It’s been eight years since I moved to CA from my hometown in TN. There are few things that take me back home, this place did all that and more.

Greens, grits, chicken, and biscuits—all like my grandma used to make. You could taste all of the love and butter in every bite! Those greens with just the right amount salt and acid—you just can’t find that around here.

Also, the service was like stepping in to someone’s family kitchen. Super attentive and friendly. They were all working together to make sure you were taken care of.

Finally, the music was on point. Every song had you groovin in your seat as you chowed down. This place is awesome!

Very cool atmosphere, fun drinks and definitely a soulful menu. Our reservation was at 6:30, but they were already out of fried green tomatoes- apparently a scarcity. The only other shareable app was sweet potato fries, so we ended up skipping that course. The catfish and jambalaya were tasty. The fried chicken had potential, but we got two scrawny wings and a drumstick- that was really disappointing. Also, for $12-14/cocktail or glass of wine, they were pretty small pours. The glass of wine filled ~1/3 of the not-very-big glass, and the old fashioned was only half full (yet the margarita was served filled to the top). Maybe they should use different glassware so it wasn't as noticeable a difference? The waiter was nice but a definitely didn't bend over backwards to make us happy when we mentioned the scrawny chicken parts. Music was LOUD, and conversation among four people leaning in was a shouting match. It is one of the best options close to the Warfield, where we were hitting a show, so I would probably go back again and just ask a lot more questions.

We went to Farmer Brown while on a quick trip to the city and it didn't disappoint. It was one of the hottest days in history so we decided to sit at the bar and have a drink before dinner to cool down. The seats we got were by the door allowing for a nice breeze. We ended up staying at the bar for dinner since it was the coolest spot in the restaurant. I had the fried chicken at the bartenders suggestion and it was spot on. Loved the crispy skin! The greens were wonderful but the shells and cheese were underwhelming. It wasn't made with shell pasta as one would expect and the sauce was under seasonsed. My husband had the ribs and scarfed them down. I would love to come back and try more on the menu.

Complete lack of attention to detail, fueled perhaps by insufficient staffing. Shabby decor and mediocre cuisine. For a place that has been open this long in a town where it is hard to stick around as a restaurant, I hoped for more.

In town for a conference and found Farmer Brown's on open table. There were 6 people in our party. The best dish of the night was the seafood gumbo. YUMMMMMY!!! The second best dish was the fried chicken. The biggest disappointment was the ham hock greens - no bueno. They didn't taste like they were cooked with a ham hock and they lacked seasoning. On the bright side, when we told our server, the kitchen sent out new greens - they still lacked seasoning, but we appreciated the effort, and they gave us free dessert. I would go back and I would recommend.

Restaurant wasn't busy on a Monday night. Waitress got one order wrong, had to send back. Had to ask for things like water refill several times. Waitress extremely nice, just not on the ball at all. Food delicious and presented beautifully. Have been there for Sunday brunch also which is very, very good.

This food was phenomenal, as was the service. My only regret was that I couldn't finish my food as I was just too stuffed! The fried green tomatoes and okra were SO good, as were the grits with pulled pork and spinach. I'll be dreaming about this meal for a long time! Who knew you could get stellar soul food in Northern California!

Overall my experience was great. I brought my partner here for his first time as part of his birthday celebration. I was a little disappointed, though, because in the reservation instructions I specifically asked if it would be possible to add a candle to the dessert or if some sort of birthday dessert could be provided.

Otherwise, as usual, the food was amazingly

Farmerbrown was outstanding. Dined before a play & service was both efficient & excellent ( Thanks to Carla). I'm from the south & feel I know a thing or two about southern food. Best catfish I've had out of the south: tender, sweet, lightly battered, & not a bit greasy. Drinks were right on. Romaine salad was made with oh-so-crisp lettuce. Hubby's chicken was scrumptious.....better than Addendum in Yountville ( a Thomas Kellar restaurant). Biscuits were decent. Grits were served cold but our server graciously & quickly replaced them. Portions are large so we were too full to try the bourbon pecan pie. Next time. Funky, fun ambience, but VERY loud.

Recently went to Farmer Brown for a business breakfast. Had a reservation but waited at the hostest stand for about five minutes before anyone aknowledged us. The two staff members walked by repeatedly, but avoided making any kind of eye contact and didn't say a word to us. It appeared they were shortstaffed, but a simple "I'll get you in a minute" would have been great.

Finally got seated, and placed our order. Food was delivered and we never saw them again. We had to work to get someone's attention to get coffee refills.

Wont be back.

Thoroughly enjoyed our visit to Farmer Brown! Excellent friendly service, warm environment and delicious cocktails and food. We ordered the pork chop by recommendation of our awesome waiter. I don't even eat pork, but had to try it, it was amazing!! Cooked to perfection with delicious flavor and a really special chutney topping. I cannot wait to go back and try more dishes!

Good food but extremely slow service !!!! Our reservations was scheduled for 4 people at 6:30. I called to change the time to 6pm. The gentlemen told me that would not be a problem. Upon arrival we were told that the reservation was only for 2 people ! What was concerning was that the hostess didn't seem to believe us that the reservations was changed and did not want to take responsibility for the scheduling conflict !!!
