Very nice restaurant in the mission
Way over priced for this area
Food is very good, but it's all alacarte
Food was mediocre but the service was good.
The menu was completely different from what they have on their website. Their excuse was that the changed the items 2 years ago... what? Learn to update the menus.
We were celebrating my long term friends promotion. The table was dirty. I had to go back to the guy that hurriedly sat us to get it cleaned. They sat us near the back although there was a table up front ( it has dirty glasses on it the entire time we had our meal ). They sat us at a four top and let the other two place settings there. The pasta was ok although not as good as I remembered. Our server kept trying to up sell our every decision without much explanation except 'it's better'. I'm pretty certain it was my last time at what used to be one of my favorites.
Farina is such a gem. With beautifully modern meets rustic decor and a wonderfully hospitable (mostly norther Italian) staff, this restaurant is going to be one of our go-to's in the city! Every dish was prepared to perfection, full of flavor and a delight to all senses - particularly the pasta, which was light as air and seemed to melt in the mouth! I can't say enough. Will definitely be going next week to get my fix!
Quiet because no one was there. As in....us, and one other table. The whole time....between 7:00-8:30pm. Came home and googled, and now realize it is probably the lawsuit. Have not been for 1+ years. Some of the food the same, some has gone down hill. Too bad. Was a favorite.
A San Francisco classic. Spectacular pasta, and I'd like to point out how accommodating they were, my friend is on a no salt diet and the waitress asked the chef if the fish could be just grilled with oil and lemon instead of the broth preparation, and he totally did. Very very happy with the service and dishes A++++
Service less attentive and crisp than on previous occasions. Wine list has been gutted; reduced to a few selections. Food was excellent, as always. Noise level is low during meals in the early evening. Outdoor dining remains an attractive option.
Unfortunately, when we arrived for our reservation, the hostess informed us that the restaurant's computers were 'down', and therefore they could not cook any food. They said they were unsure when or if they would be back up; they did not offer much of an apology, nor did they try to accommodate us. Instead we ended up having to find an alternate restaurant to celebrate our daughter's birthday. It was a shame -- their space is really beautiful. It is hard to understand how the functioning of their computers affect their ability to cook food. Very frustrating....
Nice evening at Farina. Bread is homemade and delicious. We had the prosciutto and buratta starter which was also yummy. The rabbit pasta was delicious and flavorful but maybe a little dry. The lamb and parpdele was perfect. Maybe a little more of the homemade pasta next time since it was also delicious.
Handkerchief pesto pasta was amazing!!!!
Loved watching them make the pasta before we ate it!
Tasty food. Large portions. Service a bit perfunctory. Prices for pasta are steep.
I love what they do here and I really want this place to succeed. The quality is excellent and they capture the authentic flavor of Italy. But the place was dead on a Wednesday night at 8:30. Some places do really well when they're busy and energetic. But when they're slow they fall flat. Service was friendly, food was great, but ambiance was lacking. There were only 3 tables at the restaurant and we were all right next to each other.
Great food, great service, and great atmosphere.
The only drawback is the ambient noise level. When they've got a packed house, it's really loud and hard to have conversations with your dinner companions.
The ambience was really nice and service was pretty good but food was below average. We ordered a focaccia for an appetizer and the filling was watery. The salad dressing was so bitter each of us only finished about 1/3 of our salads (we ordered 3). We shared pasta and artichokes for the main course and they were ok but nothing to write home about. Would not go back or recommend because food was meh but the place is cute-it's a shame.
Awful experience. They were completely under staffed, never again!
The service was wonderful after an initial hiccup (see below). We really enjoyed our server. Even when we gave her a slight bit of constructive criticism (please don't clear one person's plate if the other person is still working on the same course - it can make the slower eater feel rushed), she was nice and helpful and we ended up having a nice conversation with her.
The handkerchief pesto pasta exceeded our high expectations. The pasta with the lamb was also excellent. The prosciutto in burrata on foccaccia was really terrific and a healthy sized serving. The roasted artichokes dish and the brussel sprouts dish both had an unfortunate acidity to them. Not inedible, but not to our liking. The desserts were good and solid.
In my Open Table reservation I added requests to make our wedding anniversary dinner memorable. It was obvious from the outset that no one has read the notes I had taken the time to type in, or at least no one had informed our server of our requests. When she first came to our table after the hostess seated us, I mentioned the situation. She seemed embarrassed, said she would look at the notes, and she came back immediately with the two glasses of Proseco that I'd asked to be served to us upon arrival. The other little surprises for my wife that I'd asked for were subsequently all taken care of. So good for our server and a reminder to any restaurant using Open Table to READ THE REQUESTS notes that a customer may leave when making a reservation.
I will take my foodie parents here when they are next in town. Looking forward to it!
Great authentic Italian food! Loved it! Service was friendly and efficient.
I have been to this restaurant before and had a great meal. However, this time was not so good.
The service was good, our waitress was wonderful. My main complaint would be the quality of the meat. We had the snapper, the veal and the porterhouse. The meat was cooked properly.. but the quality of the meat was clearly different then my other experience. The meat was chewy and full of gristle and took quite the effort to even cut. Either the chef didn't inspect the shipment or someone has cut corners on the purchasing side. At well over $300 bucks.. I would not recommend this restaurant. I think they should stick to Italian food and have 1 steak entree of higher quality.
Went here on Valentine's Day and there was only one server and hostess for the whole restaurant. Pretty bad service as a result. The food was fine, but not very imaginative. I don't think I'd come back.
The food was great, service was good but if you're charging $18 for a cocktail, that glass should be full, or close to it.
celebrated 4o year bday :) good place to relax and enjoy
For the very best pasta homemade pasta in SF this is a can't miss place to go... the pesto pasta is 'out of this world' ridiculous!!!! Start with the cocktails, cured meats, calamari frito, then salad ... there's a few .... then the pesto pasta followed by the porterhouse steak!
Food and ambiance were great, but the service was so poor that that is what stands out from the experience. Our waitress seemed to be earnestly trying to do a good job but there doesn't seem to be any management or oversight of the dining room at all. Our waitress was seated four tables simultaneously then took all of our orders in succession, not submitting them to the kitchen in between. We waited a half hour for drinks and I was still drinking my cocktail when my pasta arrived. The table next to us received the wrong drink order (probably ours) and the wrong antipasto. The table on the other side had a problem with their wine. Topic of conversation all around was the poor service. It's a shame because this could be a great restaurant. I hope they get their act together.
Pasta was great but honestly the wait help was very average. They were hard to find. We had to get their attention to bring our main course. They were very friendly and pleasant, just not on it enough. 120 plus tip for 2 people and 1 drink each.
Great creative pasta, pizza and protein. Extremely freash. Creative ambiance. Upstairs dining the show stopper
Service was terrible. We had to wait 40 minutes to order then there was some mistakes in the dishes served. I got the burratta with prociutto which was delicious, the wine was amazing too but the wait and service really wasted all the positive. I also think we paid a lot for the food we got.
Though highly rated on Yelp and on Open Table, our experience was far from fine. Our server was brusque, inattentive, spoke quickly with an accent, and appeared reluctant to give us details about the specials. She did not offer late arriving guests to our party of seven drinks or appetizers, but all but demanded that we order our main course. The bill was excessive for the experience, and an automatic 20% tip was charged, including 20% of alcohol bill, which is inappropriate. The food was good, but certainly our experience was marred by the lack of service. We will not be going back.
I have been going to Farina for a long time. However, last night was disappointing. I was going for a business dinner and I had to say Farina didn't meet the standard. They no longer offer valet or have a parking lot. The menus are stained with grease like a little trattoria and not a restaurant that charges $24 dollars for a small plate of pasta. The wine list has been replaced with a short list of 10 or so choices for white/red. The bread basket looked stale and unattractive, a complete change from the past. The food was solid with focaccia di recco and pesto being best and the octopus being least. Specifically the octopus was not as tender as it could have been and the sauce, while delicious, had nothing to do with the octopus in my opinion. Service was good if not very energetic. There was a good crowd and noise so I liked the energy level. I hope Farina fixes the parking, menus, wine list as those are important to attract a business crowd .
A night at Farina used to be like a ride in an Italian sports car. Well executed dishes, crisp attentive service, with a genuine thrill. Lately, however, it seems as if Farina isn’t firing on all cylinders. My last visit started well: the polipo (octopus) appetizer was excellent. It struck just the right balance between the smoky grilled octopus and the acidity of the lemon and tomato dressing. A difficult task but one which Farina executed flawlessly. Our main dishes however, were a disappointment. The veal was overcooked, dry, and void of flavor. The signature pasta seemed somewhat stale and overly chewy. Our server was disengaged and forgetful – forgot our drink order, and didn’t offer us dessert or coffee. The mood of the crowd seemed as if everyone, including the staff, was struggling to enjoy themselves and would rather be somewhere else. No longer a thrill, a meal at Farina now seems like a ride in a car with a flat tire, broken tail light, and cracked windshield.
Farina is a great place. The team service concept is awesome and the team does a great job. The show kitchen is fun to watch and the tables are comfortable. In good weather the roof deck is awesome. We had a great meal. Rabbit with Gnocchi and the Octupus appetizers were standout.
How did I not know about Farina sooner? I've passed this restaurant so many times and wanted to eat there but never had the chance. The food was so good. We had the prosciutto, burrata and focaccia appetizer and tricolore salad to start - both were great. And, we shared the handkerchief pesto pasta and the ribeye steak. The handkerchief pasta was so delicate and coated just enough with a creamy pesto. For dessert - we have the panna cotta. The atmosphere was just right - there were couples having dinner as well as families. I can't wait to go back.
Poor Farina. Used to be great. Now just feels sad.
The place is beautiful / bar is great / pasta with basil their speciality .. that's it .. always unusual spotty service from wait staff . Management staff to your rescue
Very disappointed over all with service. Food was fair. Since I had been here before several time I had great expectations for another great northern Italian meal with family - it didn't happen this time! All the servers looked like they were having a bad day and wanted everyone else to join them. Doubt if we will be going back.
The pesto pasta was orgasmic!
The waitress could not even remember that my guest and I had ordered 2 ginger ales. CLearly she was new and not aware of the most basic issues. Our appetizers sat there 1/2 eaten literally for 30 minutes when she said, she would then put our order in. Having eaten in dozens of 5 star restaurants in SF, I will never go back to Farina or recommend it to anyone. I only gave my guest (who came all the way fro NY) and I a shot at it, because Foreign Cinema was booked solid. Never again. The tartare was not seasoned in any type of way. The veal was good, but not great.
