My halibut (May special) was amazing, with delicious accompaniments. My wife's Caesar salad with blackened salmon was very good, though the blackened salmon was actually a little TOO peppery. The two appetizers - May specials - were also very, very good, beautifully presented, and very reasonably priced. The service was outstanding. It's a great place for lunch, and it's doing fabulous work through training and providing jobs.

We went for the first time since it was a guest chef as well as our company executive team serving the tables at Farestart. Great food and value (3 courses for $30). They had a chef graduation ceremony while we were there - inspiring to hear the success and background of this organization. Definitely want to go back again.

We had very attentive and friendly service. The halibut was nicely grilled and served on a huge bed of squid-ink risotto. A lighter touch with the squid ink and a smaller portion of risotto, with a few more greens, would have made the plate more balanced. The bread pudding portion was large enough for two people and would have benefitted from a generous drizzle of creme anglaise to loosen the texture. Coffee is Starbucks; order espresso rather than drip. No alcohol is served at lunch, but the dry sodas are good.

Good service with attentive staff and great tasting food, especially the curried chicken wrap. The staff asked how the meal was and our check was delivered on time. I have been to FareStart multiple times before for these reasons and will continue to frequent it as well as recommend it to my friends. The price is also fair for the quality of food. Lastly, I like that instead of a tip a contribution can be made to the business mission to benefit the community/people in need.

Excellent friendly server and nice menu selections. We had reservations for lunch on a Friday and were glad we did as there were always people walking in and waiting for tables.

The special, the duck in pasta tubes, was the worst dish I have had at Farestart in 7 years. But it looked great before I dug in. The duck pieces were dried out, leathery, and lacking in flavor except for a stale after taste. The coconut curry sauce was thin with only the barest hint of either ingredient. The 3 pieces of charred pineapple lacked any sweetness and the pesto dabs were flavorless. The description of this dish had created high expectations, for sure, but what I met was disappointment. I know this restaurant can do excellent dishes and this was the first time I felt they missed the mark. But I'll try them again and maybe stick with my usual tried and true dishes, like the polenta with marinara and vegetables.

Fare Start is a great restaurant, and also has an amazing mission. I enjoy taking colleagues here for lunch so that they can experience a social services mission that produces great chefs and food service workers. The menu is varied, and always something for everyone. Our meals were excellent. The service is always amazing. It's a bustling place that feels very energizing.

I would argue that farestart was the best restaurant I have ever eaten at. It's great to get amazing food and donate to a noble cause at the same time, and our meal was easily the most delicious we have ever had. The burger was such a well prepared piece of excellent beef that it tasted like a steak, while my wife's steak was so tender that even being cooked rare it cut smoothly.

Even the greens with the steak were to die for! Am amazing find, very happy to have eaten here and look forward to returning next time I am in Seattle.

Recently dined in for guest chef dinner. Service was friendly and efficient and the three course meal was delicious (buratta/beet/black walnut salad, steak & frites main course + mushroom ragu pasta vegetarian option, chewy brownie with ice cream/bananas/salted caramel). Highlight was seeing the graduating FareStart class take the stage. A wonderful evening overall!

Great food - and supports a great cause! Farestart is a wonderful place for lunches, and the prices are very fair. The menu has good variety and never fails to have something interesting. The guest chef nights (Thursdays) are always a wonderful deal and they have been amazing every time. The vegetarian options are always good - just check the menu in advance to make sure you get the option you want. I love that so much of what you pay (and any extra tips) support such a wonderful organization that truly helps local people!

The two of us enjoyed lunch. The Beets salad was great. The Tuna sandwich special was good and a new dish for me. The deviled eggs were a little unusual from other ones I've tried. The polenta dish was good . That was the first time we ever had polenta at such a soft consistency (sort of like grits)..not bad. Very nice server and Everything came out fast. We arrived 5 min early of our reservation and were seated immediately. I want to come back again and try the burger or steak sometime. Thanks.

I didn't check many boxes but that was due to time constraints. I'd go there any time they are open for any event. It was very pleasant, service and food were great. The noise was very well controlled and check in fast as well as reservation and follow-up efficient.

Very interesting well prepared food. Creative but not weird. Well executed. The restaurant is additionally a worthy cause supporting education and training giving people a second chance, for the restaurant services industry.

The concept is fantastic and I want to see the restaurant succeed. However, I thought the food did not live up to billing. I went on Guess Chef night, and I understand that the food may vary from week to week. However, on that particular night, I felt the menu could've been more inventive.

I believed in the concept of a chef working with/training formerly homeless/otherwise challenged individuals, but the amount of food for $30 was pathetic! If I am making a donation instead of eating dinner then let's make that clear, not come for a three course dinner made with ho hum ingredients and expect a satisfying meal. There was a puny appetizer, a miniscule main course and an adorable miniature for dessert. Multiply all portions by three and it would be close to a normal restaurant serving. Disappointing!

Pleasant service from hostess to wait staff. Easy to move around the restaurant, even if you're a bit gimpy. The food is moderately priced (not "cheap," but far from overpriced), satisfying, and has the kind of small culinary surprises to delight a casual diner.

Had a pork sandwich on brioche with cilantro and a tangy garlic aioli, served alongside delightful batter-dipped fries, and a good, solid cup of coffee. My sammich groaned under the weight of two (2) full pork cutlets used as "patties," and was plenty big enough to share.

My date ordered a Caesar salad, which veered toward lemony and had no discernible anchovy flavor, but was also good and liberally garnished with shaved parmesan. We split our plates, and neither of us left hungry (for perspective, we're not small people).

The open kitchen leaves nothing to the imagination, and that is good in this case. Everything behind the glass appeared spotless, well-organized, and professional.

Complaints: the pepper and salt grinders are cutesy but annoyingly low on function; also, Caesar salads should be prepped tableside with fresh-cracked eggs and briny little fish.

Highlights: pretty much everything else about this place.

We'll be back, probably next for one of FareStart's guest chef evenings.

We love Fare Start. Knowing the price goes toward educating people in the community is enough, but the menus from renowned local chefs is over the top. If you want to enjoy a sampling of excellent Seattle fare, come here. If you support giving people who need it a chance to succeed, pick a Thursday every month and enjoy!
