At FareStart, food is the tool that transforms lives. FareStart is a culinary job training and placement program for homeless and disadvantaged individuals. The FareStart Restaurant, located at 7th & Virginia in downtown Seattle, is open for lunch Monday-Friday from 11am–2pm, and for Guest Chef Night dinners on Thursdays from 5:30-8 p.m. All proceeds from the restaurant go back into the program to support FareStart’s job training and placement programs.
Held at the FareStart Restaurant, Guest Chef Night is a weekly highlight for the FareStart community. For FareStart students, it is a unique opportunity to work with Seattle's premier chefs. Every Thursday night, a different local chef works with students to prepare a delicious three-course meal. Guest Chef Night is $29.95 per person. Garage Parking for Guest Chef Night is available in the 1918 8th Ave Parking Garage. The garage is located on Virginia St, just across from the police station, between 8th & 9th Ave. Parking for our guests is $6.00 from 4-10 pm with proof of patronage at FareStart. Please provide your receipt to the parking attendant upon exiting to receive this special rate. Valid Thursday nights only.
There are also several area lots, garages, and accessible street parking available during the day.

It is a great cause, a great result, convenient to anything in the SLU area. I was less impressed with the Tuna BLT. Great idea, but the tuna was a little soft and the tomatoes needed tossed. Perhaps it was because it was close to the end of the lunch period, but it was not the best choice.
The host at the front desk gave our table away to another party without checking if it was the correct party. He Said he would give us the next available table and instead gave it to another group of the same size as we continued to wait. He was unapologetic and did absolutely nothing to make up for this. We ended up waiting for another 20+ minutes to be seated when we had an actual reservation. Awful service and an unacceptable response from the host and I would not recommend this place. It’s unfortunate since I’ve been here many times and support the cause but not at the expense of terrible service.
Not only do the serve great food in a great space, but FareStart is a fantastic volunteer organization that trains people in life skills and the culinary arts. A 13 week program from start to ready to work in the food industry. Come in for the great food, and come back to support a wonderful cause!
A restaurant with a social purpose. Food during the weekly Thursday night dinner was quite good and the volunteer servers were very friendly. There was a pause during the meal to recognize a graduating student which reaffirmed the positive impact of the establishment. A really great experience.
Still one of the best restaurants in the Northwest, but service is not as tight as it was before the renovation/expansion a couple of years ago. Waited over 15 minutes after being seated before being contacted by our waiter for pre dinner drinks. Also, seated in the back room which is much noisier than the main dining room, especially when all the tables are full.
Enough complaints though, food is still sublime as always. Fantastic, creative, delicious, I always leave satisfied.
This is a great place to take someone for lunch as there are a number of different entrees - something for everyone. I had the grilled salmon over seasonal veggies and it was delicious. The wait staff, as always, was very friendly and efficient. A very enjoyable experience.
The dinner with the chef from the Columbia Tower Club was over the top! Each dish was exquisitely prepared with several garnishes. We had a round table for the six of us in a corner which was lovely. The service, done by volunteers, is gracious.
Eat wonderful food and support an outstanding organization that is really making a difference in our community.
I love coming here for lunch as well.
We went on guest night 8/24/17. The lobster bisque was not that great and the volunteer waitress spilled some of it in my grandson's stroller. The salmon dish had artichoke in it that had to be picked out cause it couldn't be chewed. It was like chewing on cud. We did enjoy the dessert though as this was the best part of the meal.
So I am a fan of Farestart I love going for lunch feels like real treat to have quality food in a nice atmosphere.
I was so exited for guest chef night and have my first dinner there, unfortunately I was not wowed by the Korean inspired menu.
The portions were so small so small we all stuffed ourselves on the great table bread to complete the meal.
The appetizer was artfully presented veg trio but under seasoned, the main course hanger steak was sliced and cooked correct but cold and under seasoned. The salad on plate was plentiful but no dressing or season, the kimchee nice with Korean chili sauce.after tge meal, I later found out we were supposed to wrap the meat, sauce and kimchee but without guidance how to eat the dish we ate the items separately, no big deal but a little help would have improved the experience.
Dessert was almost comical huge plate with 2 tiny items a thimble pastry lemon tart maybe 2.in diameter half filled and a warm chewy hot glutinous dessert with sesame dressing it was delicious but two bites.
All in all a nice looking meal with a bit more seasoning and portion I would have left content.
We all left hungry and thinking about a bite before bed.
I'll come back but I think I might stick to lunch.

As always, a terrific lunch and an opportunity to do well by eating well. The ahi tuna appetizer was fabulous, and paired with a side of horseradish slaw, an ample lunch meal. Our server Andrea was helpful, patient with many questions and friendly. Love the new program that has a service fee included, and that Amazon was matching donations to the training g program. We are excited to try new sister restaurant Maslows later this week.
We came for guest chef night. The meat was quite overcooked ( lamb and beef meatballs) and had no flavor. The menu included a flat bread, that we were not served. We figured it have been taken of f the menu, then saw other diners who had it on our way out. Disappointing.
We came for chef's night and enjoyed a creative dinner. I love having only the choice between vegetarian and non-veg, choosing a night where the chef and menu look interesting, and the feeling of spending my food money on something delicious AND with a purpose.
Guest Chef Night (Thursdays) is a must here! Very high-quality and imaginative offerings (menus available online), and the fact that they are providing skills for folks to enter the food-service industry is additional reason to support them. Loved our meal here: charred octopus with corona beans and hazelnuts!! Drop-dead delicious! Nice wines by the glass; bottle selection also looked good. We will try for lunch one of these days, but will definitely be back for dinner!
I hadn't been to Fare Start in a few years and was looking forward to the lunch meal. Unfortunately my risotto dish was very bland, and the roasted veggies were a few onions and spinach - so not something I would order again. It was very loud and we had to speak over the table next to us who kept turning up their volume.
