Number one on my favorites list. Bring back the breadsticks!!!! My steak is always cooked just the way I like it. Great salad dressing. My only complaint would be the bread served with dinner. Not the best. Love the decor and we eat dinner there at least once a month and usually bring friends. Appreciate the Costco gift cards also. Was just there with friends two nights ago. Have not been there for lunch.
We had reservations for 5:30 pm. Relatively early. Didn't get our table til 5:45. Ordered drinks and they came about 15 minutes later. Ordered dinner around 6:03 pm. Nothing particularly out of the ordinary. Had 3 kids under the age of 10. One ordered off the adult menu. 3 other adults present. About 6:50 pm, the waiter said that they ruined the gravy and would have to make it again. About 7:13, we were finally served. The waiter brought out bread and beans. I wondered why this couldn't have been brought out earlier, especially for the kids. Most meals were ok. The hamburger ordered medium rare was well done and cold. Not good. The bill was $169.00 for 3 kids and 3 adults, plus tip. The steak sandwich was apparently excellent. The décor was lovely. Nicely decorated for Christmas. High end.
My wife and I were there for the Veterans Day event (I am a veteran) and, even though we had reservations, it still took us 20 minutes to be seated, and ANOTHER HOUR and FIFTEEN MINUTES TO HAVE OUR MEALS SERVED! Our waiter told us he "had no control over the kitchen", and although he told us he had checked several times, it still took a very long time to be served. Several other guests who arrived well after us, in one case more than 1/2 hour after our being seated, were served an finished their meal and left. I seriously doubt that we will go back to the Far Western anytime soon - if ever.
We went for a Saturday brunch. We wanted to have some hardy food prior to a wine event. The muffins and biscuits were wonderful - flakey and yummy. We ordered steak but one with bacon and one with small steak - then we shared the meats. Great idea. Fried potatoes were very good. I like the beans and salsa (my husband will not eat beans - more for me). All in all it was a perfect place with the perfect food prior to wine tasting (or anything else).
Prices have increased so much, we were taken back by the increase. If they want to increase the cost, they could at least ensure the food is served at the appropriate temperature and is timely served without lapses in courses. I ordered the ribs which were delicious, but beans and ravioli were lukewarm. Btw, the ravioli looked good on yelp, but both myself and my wife thought that they had a funny, gamey taste. Enough said, good luck at your new location.
I used to love to go to the tee off in Santa Barbara near State Street however since I have come across the Far West in Orcutt the tee off does not compare. The ambience at the far west is fantastic it's clean it's more organized it's not phony or ostentatious. The people are friendly polite and the steak is fantastic! I will be back! I come all the way from La Quinta California!
We had reservations, no one was at the desk for 7 to 10 minutes then I got tired of waiting so I walked into bar area and asked if we had to wait to be seated. The employee located the host and then we were seated 17 min after my reservation time. Then we waited another 12 min before someone asked for our drinks. Our waitress finally asked for our drink order it took another 15 minutes to get the drink order. There no table snacks or a veggie tray while we waited. Then our waitress finally came back to get our order she was training so she had another waitress helping her out. The restaurant was busy this evening with parties at different stages of dinner. Some waiting for food others eating and others finishing. They did not have the appetizer we wanted. The clam chowder was great. We ordered the filet minion it was prepared okay I have had better at other establishments. I tasted the twice baked potatoe and I did not eat it. We were here for our 20th Anniversay. I paid for food I did not enjoy. The menu selection is minimal. Things happen, maybe it wasnt a good night to go; regardless the service should of been better the food should of been better for the price I paid.
It was awesome. Food was delicious. No wait time was great. Drinks were good. Waitress took excellent care of us. Very prompt with the check, as we were in a hurry. It was our first date night after having our son and it was a great night. Thank you so much.
The portions are huge... we split the wedge salad and were glad we did....
My GF got the burger... MOUNTAIN would be a better description... was about 7" high with a steak knife buried in it.... THAT deep.... and delicious.
I got the Ribeye.... cooked to perfection.... and when I leave ANYTHING on the plate, there was plenty of food.... and I DID...
Unlike another steak place further North... the sides are good for 2... not just a tiny cup of beans...

The food was outstanding, our server was a little lacking however. He forgot the beans and salsa that come with the meal, and never brought them. I reminded him of the salsa, and he replied he'd "be back with more salsa." We never got a full side of salsa or beans, but aside from that, everything was good.
I have dined many times at Far Western over the years. The new location is excellent with smart design and décor. The food is not complicated and quite delicious. The service is attentive to needs without being overbearing. An overall pleasing experience that you will feel is worth every penny!
I have been to this restaurant 3 times and the food and service has been outstanding. We took our friends to Far Western Tavern for dinner and it took us 2 hours to finish dinner. We waited forever for our food to come out. The food was only ok, and they changed our favorite dessert so it wasn't as good. Not sure if I will go back again.
Generally we enjoy the Far Western steaks. This time we ordered 2 of the lobster dishes and were seriously under impressed. I had the lobster roll, which is lobster on a bun. The lobster was improperly cooked and was mushy. The bun was more like a hot dog bun than the baguette it should have been. My wife ordered the lobster pot pie. Her lobster was also improperly cooked and mushy. The crust was puffed pastry and was so soggy it was inedible, not a pot pie crust.
In addition, and not for the first time, the service from the chef was very slow. It took 40 minutes to be served after ordering. We had a fairly early dinner service (6:00) and the restaurant was not yet crowded, so I see no excuse for the poor service.
This was our third visit to this restaurant. The first time, there was nothing on the menu for us to eat (trying to be Vegan). The second time, the menu had changed and there were several options for vegetarians, but not Vegans. This time, the menu was still updated and we went with friends who eat meat and everyone was quite happy with their meals. They make a grilled caesar salad which is very well done. They also offered a salmon special and a regular salmon, both of which were wild, the only way to eat salmon since farmed salmon is not good for you. I had the special and it was perfectly cooked and delicious. The meal comes with a relish plate (nothing to write home about), garlic bread, beans and a choice of sides with entrees. Service was attentive and friendly but there was a serious wait between ordering drinks and then food and again between getting salads and entrees. One huge plus was when we asked the waiter to split the bill and he paid attention to the fact that we had not had any liquor but our friends had and split the bill accordingly. First time someone had been that attentive. Thank you!!
Our hotel recommended this place and we were not disappointed. A little bit of a drive from Santa Maria but worth it. Great rib eye steak cooked right with some tasty sides (beans and a fresh salsa) and garlic bread. Also had lamb, prime rib and pork chops on the menu so there was variety. Western motif made you feel comfortable. Plus, there was no corkage fee for local wines.
We arrived about 5 minutes before our reservation and there was no one in the reception area except another couple waiting for a table. The place was about half full with a few in the bar/lounge area. About 5 minutes later the hostess showed up and took the waiting couple to a table. Then she left again to get a table prepared for us. 5 minutes later we were seated. 5 minutes later we finally talked to a server who was able to get us drinks and a menu. The last time we were here it was busy and just opened with Rick as part of the management. Obviously at least in this case the service was really poor. The attitude of the server was good but you could tell that they are hearing some complaints. To us on this occasion it looked like a Management issue not the ability of the server. The food we had was fine but nothing special considering the choices in the area. The place itself has some Far Western Flavor but it is not like the original in Guadalupe.
We had a great meal. I had the chicken fried steak with creamy polenta. It was really good and will definitely have that again. My mom had rack of lamb. She really liked it once she figured out how to cut it up. My dad had the mahi mahi and cleaned his plate. My daughter had the boar with pasta. It was pretty good , outside of her comfort zone but she tried something new and really liked it. My significant other had the steak which is always good. We celebrated my parents 60th wedding anniversary and our server Chris was great and took great care of us.
