Far Western Tavern
Our restaurant is recognized as a landmark of Santa Maria Style Barbecue, a renowned regional fare rooted in native ingredients and methods that were first popularized by 19th century rancheros.
Our menu blends this local barbecue style with other dishes that reflect our family’s heritage in the Santa Maria Valley’s Swiss-Italian ranching community, all prepared with fresh flavors from nearby farms, ranches and vineyards.
We have been in often and everything is always perfectly cooked and nice employees. We booked a table on fathers day and my husbands steak was not seasoned whatsoever and tasted horrible. They took half the steak back added seasoning but as well all know not cooking a good steak with seasoning is not going to taste good. This was our only unpleasant experience and for the price I believe they should had remade his steak and added seasoning. Other than that, my filet mignon was delicious as usual .
This was a favorite place of ours, but it was huge miss on Father’s Day. We made reservations ahead of time, only to end up standing outside the doors for 10 minutes past opening/our reservation time. Another guest had to call and ask them to unlock the doors, at which point everyone rushed in at the same time and waited while a single hostess seated tables one at a time. It was close to 10:20 before we had been seated with no form of apology, and were then told that we “better make sure the high chair doesn’t stick out in the aisle”. Then the order of service got off, and other guests that were seated behind us had drinks and orders taken before we even had been offered water. It was past 11 before we had our food, and two of our meals were lukewarm. The French toast was barely warm and basically a plate of mush, which was expressed to the server when she asked how things were. She was friendly enough, but no offer was made to order something else or anything along those lines.
Our waitress was friendly enough, and obviously not all of this was a single person’s fault, but from start to finish this was such a disappointing experience and not in line with what we had come to expect from Far Western. We’ll chalk it up to an off day, but will likely consider other options for busy weekends.
Everything was perfect! Carlos is absolutely amazing! Food was Excellent, as always.
Excellent food, nice ambiance, they could use a little more help, our server had a lot of tables to cover so it took a while for a order to be placed. If you're not in hurry, no biggie, but if you have kids with you two hours for dinner can seem long.
One of my guest was disappointed on the size of her steak especially for the price. Knowing the reputation of Far Western the pork ribs did not come right off the bone as I have had before. And seasoning could have been better. Also the relish trays barely had anything in them very sparingly not like we had in the original Far Western. But otherwise everything was great.
The food was very good and the bar service was great! Our server was a bit slow.
This restaurant has been around a long time but I understand they have a relatively new chef who we followed at her last place in Los Olivos....she is wonderful and has brought a definite upgrade here as well. The food has reached a new level....her seasoning skills are first rate. The steaks are perfect and the vegetables are fresh with a wonderful taste. We will be regulars as long as she remains!! Service was great too!
Great Service. Great food. Great location in an interesting place.
I have been there several times and each time we received quality service and food. What we like is the treatment we get the atmosphere of the place a westernize style
Outstanding food and service! First time there, we will be back.
Far Western Tavern is a great value for the money and surpasses other establishments in the area for Santa Maria style cooking. One thing to note is that the portions are large, so go in hungry. I would heartily recommend it.
Wonderful food and service!
Everything is above par at the far western. We have never had a meal there that was less than outstanding! The Minetti family truly make you feel like special guests every time you are there. We live near Lake Tahoe, so it is quite a drive, but worth it for the incredible food. Thank you again for another great memory
We had the weekend brunch on Easter morning and it was fabulous! Happy families, lovely service, and the food was unsurpassable! It was a PERFECT BRUNCH!
We made reservations, were seated promptly and the food was delicious. The staff was fabulous and we enjoyed our evening.
We had a small party of six for a birthday. Our waitress was distracted, disorganized and slow. Half of our party received their entree that was over cooked or seriously undercooked. Very disappointing.
Amazing restaurant. My wife and I always go here for date night. With a family of 4 children, we look forward to our Far Western date night steak night! They are amazing. Service is top notch. Take great care of us and always do the little things that make the experience worth going back again and again. Recommend for anyone who loves amazing steaks and great service.
We had a very nice Friday night dinner at Far West. I had tri-tip and my husband had the bulls-eye rib eye. It was huge, cooked perfectly - next time we’ll share. Came with a vegetable plate appetizer, small bay shrimp cocktail, salad or clam chowder, potato or oak grilled cauliflower and Brussels sprouts - very tasty. Our server and the rest of the wait staff were very attentive and gracious. The restaurant is sectioned off into small rooms providing for a more intimate dining experience. My only complaint was that it was too dark to read the menu or clearly see my food. Had to use my iPhone light. There is also an outside enclosed patio with heaters but we didn’t go see it. Fun bar area up front. Lots of cowboy memorabilia from the old location in Guadeloupe.
The ambiance is wonderful! Restrooms and restaurant were exceptionally clean. The service was fantastic; waitstaff very attentive! The prices were high, compared to other similar establishments. The food itself was good, but not remarkable.
Great food with a family type Ranch atmosphere— my fourth time to the Orcutt restaurant. Service was quick and attentive— our server was helpful with suggestions and friendly to our small group of three. I am sure that I’ll be back many more times as it is one of my favorite spots on the Central Coast
Like many folks, I can only compare the new location in Orcutt to the old one in Guadalupe, and the "new" location does not measure up. Not sure if their source of beef is still the Minetti Ranch or not, but the overall food quality is pretty average and the dinning experience is just ok.
Good food, great service. Halibut was excellent, dessert fabulous!
Appetizers came out quickly - food took FOREVER! Only saving grace was that our waiter comp'd a seconday bottle of wine due to the LONG wait for the meal
VERY tasty food. We really enjoyed the way the linguica was prepared and both meat entrees were excellent. Thanks for a lovely evening.
I HAVE NEVER HAD A BAD MEAL AT THE FAR WESTERN. THE SERVICE IS EXCELLENT. THE WAIT PEOPLE ARE VERY ATTENTIVE. ALWAYS GREETED PROMPTLY AND WITH A SMILE. THE FOOD IS TOP NOTCH! THE SUGGESTION I DO HAVE IS POSSIBLY OFFERING A COUPLE OF FISH ITEMS FOR LUNCH AND DINNER. MOST PEOPLE CAN NOT ALWAYS ENJOY MEAT ITEMS BECAUSE OF HEALTH REASONS. IT WOULD BALANCE OUT THE MENU AND MAKE CHOICES EASIER. THANK YOU, M
PS: WE HAVE BEING GOING TO THE FAR WESTERN SINCE 1966!!
Steak was burned on the outside and raw on the inside . Server didn’t speak English well and brought wrong beer twice . Then we gave up. Very frustrating! Wouldn’t suggest to others. If you want to eat here, eat in the bar. It has better food and service.
Far Western Tavern was a restaurant my parents and grandparents used to love back in the sixties, and I remember having dinner with them there once when I was about three years old, before we moved from Lompoc to Huntington Beach. This past weekend my mom and I went back after over 50 years and couldn’t have been more pleased with the food, the service and the kindness of not just the staff, but the local patrons as well. A very enjoyable experience to be sure and one I hope to repeat!!
We both had the tri-tip and I added the lobster. The meat was cooked perfectly for both of us. Always a wonderful meal...
Had a great steak dinner with former santa maria friends visiting from Ohio. We were all pleased.
Guadalupe was the best atmosphere. Now Orcutt is a bit too modern considering their competitors get to claim old Nipomo and Casmalia. The food and service are both outstanding though.
Too expensive for the average person.
The service was very good and waitress was friendly and attentive.
Dinning room is pretty loud. Far Western can’t do much about it but there’s always a table of folks too many drinks in that act as though they’re still in the bar. Last night was no exception, was difficult to enjoy our meal and have conversation ourselves.
Service was quite poor. Only saw the server a 3 times. When dinner came out, only 5 of our 6 dinners were served. We waited assuming the 6th was next. Minutes went by. 5. 10. No one came back. No one walked by to flag and ask. I finally got up and found a bus boy and asked. He never came back. Got up again and asked the hostess, she never came back. About 15 min in the sever passes by real quick, whispers the 6th dish is almost done and just walks on by. Obviously someone forgot to make it, but rather than tell us this, they just served 5 of us and then disappeared.
We had ordered the lamb chops, 2 steaks, ribs and 2 salmons. Most all the food was good and cooked well. Ironically, the items not cooked per order were the steaks. Both filets were asked to be medium rare but both were medium in the center and medium well everywhere else.
I will give them credit in that they did not charge for the 6th dish that was late. But that doesn’t excuse the fact that everyone disappeared without saying anything.
Next time we want a steak, will be going elsewhere.
We chose the Far Western for a promotion celebration for our son. They have good food and we consider them a great place for special occasions. Our servers did a great job and made sure our dining experience was very positive and enjoyable. I definitely recommend this restaurant. I've had the ribeye steak on several occasions and they always get it right.
This was our first time brining our friends from out of town here. Everyone loved it! We sat on the patio, it was very nice. The food was fantastic, our waiter/bartender was so good and attentive. Highly recommend
Hubby and I shared one Oak Classic meal and were quite satisfied. The steak skewers appetizer was amazing. I would return and make that my meal!
ambiance is good, staff somewhat confused when we arrived on time for our reservations for 4. Took several minutes before seating us. Food was okay / passable. one person had soup and salad - the soup tasted burnt. one person had cowboy sirloin and requested it to be medium to medium well and steak was mostly medium rare (still very red) and the baked potato was very small and not very good. the best thing was the salads.
Awesome food & service!
Service is always good at the Far Western, and I always look forward to a perfect filet when I go there. I would suggest you skip the salad, unless you go for the Caesar salad. The regular salad is a tasteless mess of odd greens. The twice baked potato is delicious! They do have a delicious lunch wedge salad, which I have enjoyed many times and highly recommend. There is a complimentary relish tray that is offered as you are seated. For four people, our relish tray had two carrot sticks, a couple of pickle slices, three black olives and two celery sticks. When we requested more, they gladly obliged....maybe they should beef up the relish tray. Maybe it was Sunday night, but their only dessert offerings were crepe brûlée and ice cream. I recommend this restaurant. One of the best in the area.
Food was amazing, restaurant a little cold and our waiter was not very good
