Far Niente serves contemporary Canadian and New American cuisine in an upscale, yet casual, dining room. The wait staff are friendly, attentive and knowledgeable. There is an extensive domestic and international wine list; order a vintage to complement your meal. Groups can order family style side dishes to share. All dishes are made to order and are beautifully presented.
Start with an appetizer like the East Coast crab slaw, mushroom soup or the sea scallops and pork belly. For the main course, order the crispy chicken sandwich, seared branzino, ricotta ravioli or the spicy seafood spaghetti. If you are feeling fancy, order Far Niente's 1855 prime sirloin steak. There are plenty of sides to choose from as well including the farm fresh vegetables, pomme puree, green salad or the wild mushrooms. Far Niente is good for small and large groups and other special occasions.
A very disappointing experience. The food was very average and the sever could initially think to ask the kitchen for vegan options and when he did coordinate with the kitchen it was very uninspiring.
Not a place I will return to in a hurry
Food was ordinary and not worth the price. The special of the day was not clearly defined and described and was not to my liking
Had a good experience as always
Went to Far Niente for a business lunch and it was great-the service was really fast and the waiterr was really knowledgeable
Food was good Service was slow and below par. Room to improve
We ordered the cod luncheon special, which was delicious. The gnocchi within it added another dimension and enhanced the taste. The bread served before hand was light and tasty and did not spoil the main course. Dessert was also delicious, and included a caramel berry crumble with vanilla ice cream. Server was friendly and attentive but not overly present and brought the cheque promptly upon the conclusion of our meal. Great value for dollar and a place I continue to recommend. I am a non-drinker so I can't comment on the wine list, other than the list is extensive. After nearly 20 years of lunching there, each experience there has been memorable in both service and meal quality categories. It's long been my first choice for a first-class business luncheon in downtown TO.
Far Niente was recommended to us as a very nice place to celebrate our anniversary. My wife and I were very pleased with the quality of everything from the greeting at the door, accommodating our seating requests, and the waiter's attention to details. We were very happy with our meal and the recommendations made to us by our waiter. We were in Toronto for 5 nights and Far Niente was the nicest of the places we chose to eat at. We would highly recommend Far Niente to anyone wishing to celebrate a special occasion. Although we did not have difficulty making our reservation, I would recommend reserving in advance.
The cocktails were excellently made. A real steal on the old fashioned considering they make it with Knob Creek. The food was also well done - the fish of the day was splendid and all the garnishing was beautiful.
Thoroughly enjoyed our Summerlicious dinner. Would go back for dinner again!
My husband and I had a lovely lunch in your beautiful restaurant this week. From the moment I walked in (my husband arrived a few minutes later), I was made to feel like a welcome guest. The server was just terrific (I believe his name was Mike), friendly but not too friendly, explained different choices and made good suggestions. A really lovely experience. The only very slight flaw was that when our food arrived arrived it was more on the lukewarm side than in the hot range. However, since we were there for "Summerlicious" your restaurant was truly busy so to have received such lovely attention through our time with you made up for this small deficiency.
Food was okay. Nothing to write home about. Had better meals at previous visits to Far Niente
I always thoroughly enjoy eating at this restaurant. The service is outstanding and the seafood tastes great (and is cooked perfectly -- I am fussy about this point).
Watch out! They might not recognize your OpenTable reservation!
Summerlicious 2016 menu was another hit. As a group of 4, we each managed to try most of the items from the menu. Service was excellent and food wonderful. The tiramisu melted in my mouth – with just the right amount of mascarpone. Booths are perfect for lunch time conversation.
Had a lovely lunch at Far Niente. Recommended by a friend and both of us could not stop raving about how perfectly everything was cooked. It was a great lunch time experience and I am eager to see how their dinner's match up.
Great fast service. Steak was next to perfect. Nice place for lunch. Friendly staff.
Enjoyed another delicious lunch at this wonderful restaurant.
The service was perfect and some other eateries could learn a few lessons from the staff of Far Niente.
Great service and great food. The wait staff was very helpful. We were offered free desert because one person in our group was given the wrong food item.
One of our favourite Toronto restaurants whether for lunch or dinner. The food is innovative and very high quality and the service is superb.
I didn't find the food to be particularly good, especially at the price point.
I was disappointed by the selection and the taste of the food.
My sense is that the chef is more concerned with being trendy than with producing something that is appealing to the palate.
Set reservations same day, no problem. Requested a window booth. Got one. Staff were very friendly, and very attentive. Food was prepared exactly as requested, and delivered promptly. Food was excellent, portions were reasonable for lunch, and conversation was audible.
The duck was so incredibly succulent it melted in my mouth. The waiter was attentive and possibly the most charming I have ever come across . I can't find enough superlatives to describe the food and ambience without sounding like a cliche. Thank you for making a niece/aunt reunion that much special.
Great meal. Perfect for a business lunch. Our seerver was very helpfu and attentive.
The food was good but expensive. I was quite limited in my food selection as I have a gluten intolerance.
I chose this place because I wanted a place that would not be too noisy to have a business conversation at a table for 6. The food was good with interesting menu choices. The only negative is that the washrooms are far away down a staircase and one of our party had difficulty managing stairs.
This is my #1 place to go for a business lunch. You are made to feel special by the manager, "Oswald", paying attention to every detail and remembering his regulars. Ambience and noise level is perfect for a business conversation. Service is fast though you never feel rushed.
F-N is a staple 'GO TO Venue' with all of our prestigious Clients.
The Great Food and Superb Service, keeps us coming back.
The Venue has that hum of being busy; yet is very conducive for conducting a serious Business Discussion.
Our Clients are always pleased to accept an invitation to this Venue.
BRAVO !
I am usually a big fan of Far Niente, but this last lunch - not so much.
Their prices have gone through the roof and I don't see the value I used to.
Fruit cup at $12.00 . . . really??
A bottle of water at $7.50
There is no recession, but they are no longer providing the value and environment that warrants such prices. I think this will be my last stop in Far Niente.
Excellent service and the food was great. We really enjoyed the lunch at Far Niente.
Everyone was so nice there. They need more customers. The name has changed, but same phone #. Nice portions & very good food. Very accommodating. A guitarist played quietly. Not too much ambience.
This is a very good place for lunch, however, since it's been located in financial district of toronto at night time is quiet and almost dead. It's a good place and they are offering a tasty food with a great list wines on menu.
Far Niente is my go to place when i want to have a great lunch with friends, coworkers or family. The service and the food are always wonderful.
Absolutely great. The crabcake was astounding and the restaurant was beautiful.
I came here with my new wife to celebrate our first Valentine's Day as husband and wife. We're not the typical fine dining couple (usually too silly for most fancy places). I had trouble finding the parking, but we informed the front desk and they held our reservation for us which was great.
The waiter was very helpful with wine suggestions, considering my wife can be very picky when it comes to wine.
The food was pricy (we both had sirloin steak), but it was worth the money as the steak was incredibly tender and full of flavour. The sides were nicely portioned and the restaurant was quiet enough that we could speak at low volume and have a nice romantic dinner.
The only downside is they only have 2 beers on tap, but one of them is steamwhistle, so I was content.
Overall a wonderful dining experience.
A very relaxed atmosphere, in which to conduct a business meeting.
It's our favourite go to location, with Clients.
The fresh food and superb service, is always a given.
As expected, the Food was excellent! Would recommend to others.
This is my 3rd visit in a few months and each time my lunch has been just 'so-so', which is not what I would expect for the price. My colleague had the steak and said it was awful, I had a salman dish that was overcooked and just kind of blah. After bringing desserts our waiter disappeared and 15 minutes later I had to ask the manager to please bring our bill - 90+ minutes for a business lunch wasn't ideal. It was Winterlicious so perhaps busier than usual but after this experience don't think I will be back.
Price Fixe was fantastic
The food was really good. The steak could have used a bit more seasoning but nonetheless, the food was amazing.
I had a good time on Saturday with my friends. The place is nice, classy and clean decorated on the inside.
The service was good, but it took over 2 hours for us to finish out meals, and that is not because we stretched it out. We ordered an appetizer, main course and dessert each, and it the appetizer came rather quickly but the main course and dessert took awhile. They also did not clear the table for at least half hour after we were done our main course. Maybe it was a busy Saturday or maybe the waiter just didn't realize we were waiting for awhile.
The beef wellington duo was yummy, the chocolate tiramisu left me wanting more.
