Food was good, but ambiance and service were just “ok.” On the ambiance, it’s a little crammed/some of the tables are too close together. On the latter, it’s not House of NK, but not exactly warm either. Also, all our food came at once - no pacing/not a fan of that style. Not really a date/special evening spot. We’d go back if we happen to be in the area and are hungry for casual, tasty Chinese.

The food was great, as always. But the service was a complete catastrophe. Super slow, and when a server finally showed up there was a tangible attitude. We asked for a new round of beverages 3 times over a span of 40 minutes and nothing happened. Also found an item on our bill that we had ordered but never received.

We wanted Dim Sum as that is how the restaurant was listed. It was not available. We ordered off the menu. Food was excelllent just not what we expected.

I first visited Fang maybe 7-8 years ago, when I considered it sort of the "upscale" cousin to House of Nan King, which I've enjoyed for well over 25 years. The food continues to be fantastic. Sadly, the service on my recent visit was not great; not rude or poor, just inattentive and sort of careless. For example, we had a 9pm reservation, and at about 9:45, they came by and put the chairs up on the table next to us, as if telling us it was time to leave. Also, as I looked around the restaurant, the once-fresh decor had deteriorated ever-so-slightly. It needs, if not a refresh, a deep clean.

Fortunately, the food (we had the sesame chicken and their signature short ribs, along with the Japanese pumpkin soup and the noodle pot with seafood), was amazing. Still among the best Chinese cooking I've had anywhere. Amazing flavors, textures, sauces/broths, etc. Really perfectly assembled.

The owner kept talking us into getting dishes different from what we wanted to order, by saying that you should get B instead of A. His suggested dishes didn't taste well at all and turned out to be expensive. He also misled us into ordering more than we could eat by not providing info on the size of dishes, but his expression gave it away that we ordered too much so I asked him to cut one dish and he explicitly told us he would stop our conversation there and ignored our request. In the end we couldn't finish a lot of the food and the two dishes he suggested were the ones we didn't touch much because they were bad...

This is the worst experience I have had at any restaurant. Please avoid this place if you don't want to be manipulated or waste your money.

I have lived in SF since the 90s and this was the worst food service experience I've ever had. we waited 20 minutes before a waiter came. he didn't write down our order and had to ask us to repeat the whole thing. we got charged for items we didn't order and items we ordered never came. they never picked up our menus so we had to put them on the floor when the food came to make room. they never asked us if we wanted a second drink so we just started opening beers that were in my backpack, and of course no one noticed. what a disaster. homemade noodles were quite good.

Fang always serves us well for team lunches with 15+ people...plenty of space, food is quite good (including vegetarian options), and they make ordering easy - just ask for help. There’s a full bar and the overall value is excellent too .

The owner/chef came by and asked if any of us had eaten there. We all said no and he grabbed our menus and said he would take care of us and promised we would like it. We were all very impressed! Every dish they brought us was so yummy! Cannot wait to go back! One of my new favorites now in SF!
