I really love Fang. It's a different take on Chinese, but frankly, a welcome upgrade to traditional Chinese food. I love that Mr. Fang himself is there to make suggestions. It's best to not even look at the menu and leave it up to him. What I love most is it's like going to dinner at someone's home, but while having the nice ambiance of a restaurant. Definitely, this is one of my favorite restaurants in SF. I always bring my out of town guests here!
We had a great time celebrating Valentine’s Day at Fang. Each dish was so delicious and the service was great. We definitely recommend it for every day dining and special occasions.
Fang's is a great location for larger groups. We had over 30 and they kept food coming and made it all easy. Everything was delicious.
If Mr Fang comes by and offers to take order for you family style, say yes. Delicious food and experience. The whole table was impressed and ate everything.
Fantastic food and able to accommodate a large group on short notice. They simply asked for dietary restrictions and started bring food for the table. Fang is my favorite place for a group event.
Restaurant was closed when I arrived for my reservation.
Excellent SoMa restaurant. Food is always great, ask for a special based on your personal preferences - they always come up with fantastic surprise dish! It's usually busy so reservations are recommended. Great for groups of 5-15 as well - dishes can typically be shared and they have large tables on the lower floor. Service could be faster but overall very decent.
Always enjoy Fang for lunch with colleagues!
Great food. Let The owner order for you
Thank you Mr Fang & Crew!
Mediocre food. Terrible service. Even when we specifically told them to stop bringing our food out so fast (our table was full with three dishes), they still did (brought two more). I mean seriously, how is that supposed to work logistically?
Nice experience. Friendly staff with food prepared served with care for food allergies
Fang is one of my favorite restaurants. It is simply amazing. If you haven't been, go. If you have, you'll likely agree with me.
Great place to eat. Let them make the food selections.
Very disappointed with rude servers. Hardly knew english. Restaurant was dirty
Excellent food. The owner Fang did our menu for a party of ten and it was excellent
Mr Fang took care of us
The coolest thing about dining at Fang, is that the Chef just asks if you have any food restrictions and you're completely surprised by what comes to the table. We got a great selection of dishes, all of them delicious!
Mr Fang came out, took our menus and sent a train of food to our table. Amazing food!
Best Chinese in SF full stop.
Chinese food for people who think they don’t like Chinese food. Absolutely delicious!
Terrific food! Love the greeting from the staff. Service wasn’t great (staff seemed bored w questions), and it got really noisy as lunch crowd grew.
We walked in just for lunch, the four of us. The waitress handed us the menus and we started perusing. At that point, the owner, Peter Fang, came by, introduced himself, and asked us if we had any dietary restrictions. We all said no. He said that what he really likes to do is serve family style, and are we OK with that? We said sure. At that point he announced, “OK, in that case, you don’t need the menus anymore.“ We handed him the menus. After that, four amazingly delicious courses appeared on our table one by one. We also had the green tea with the jasmine rosebud in it, which was delicious. I can only tell you that the food here is absolutely amazing. And it really wasn’t very expensive given the high quality of the service and the food. None of us knew this restaurant existed, but we all agreed that we have to go back. It’s an eye-opening experience and a gastronomic delight. Don’t overlook this place!
NOT GREAT!!! Maybe if you are a regular customer but we came from NY area and can get the finest oriental fusion anywhere and this food was in my opinion far below par!! Our waiter made 2 dishes for us and said do t worry I know what u want ... terrible!!We asked for lomein and was served another type of noodle in coconut sauce NOT what we ordered!! We asked for big prawns and got baby shrimp with pumpkin NOT what we asked for!! Etc.... it went on and on !!! Also place seemed a little dirty . It was packed so other diners must have enjoyed WE should have listen to our hotel conceirge .
FANG was an awesome experience. We had a group of 6 and the owner took our order, recommending that we trust him to put orders in for the table. We took a leap of faith and had a fantastic line-up of food that was just the right about for the 6 of us. Highly recommend for anyone looking for high quality, authentic Chinese food.
Overpriced, in general pretty mediocre food. It was ok, just really overpriced in proportion to quality.
Owner is awesome! We trust him to order for us. We have never been disappointed!
Really good dim sum, served a la carte from the menu, not from a cart. We especially liked the sautéd book choy and dumplings.
Not much for atmosphere, but the waitstaff was super nice and funny.
We’d eat there again if we are in area.
We were a party of 4. Ordered 2 appetizers and 4 entrees. Only 2 glasses of wine. With tip $229. The food was fair. No help from the waiter in ordering dishes. In fact, he tried to steer us toward d a deep fried beef dish after I ordered the Mongolian beef. We already had deep fried dishes, why would he steer me toward another?? They forgot our steamed rice - had to ask twice.
You can do wat better for the price. Unfortunately their prices were not posted on their website menu.
Ordered the wonton soup and it was very bland. Tasted like dish water. All the entrees were good except for the special house noodles. Was in a sauce - looked like cream sauce which is strange for Chinese food, which we didn’t like and sent an entire order back. When we received the check they had charged us for it. When we mentioned it they did take it off the check, but they should have done that automatically
One word: HORRIBLE. I had been in the past for Christmas and it was a great and accommodating place (I'm gluten free and soy free). If you enjoy a place that brings out all of the food at random times, continuously says, "We are busy," then this is the perfect place for you! Having a reservation is irreverent and the servers do not check in on you. You have to ask for EVERYTHING (water, checks, where is my food?) If we did not ask, we would still be stuck in this unaccommodating joke of a restaurant. My boyfriend and I ordered 5 things: sesame chicken, green beans, curry chicken, and 2 single rice dishes. 10 minutes after ordering, we received our green beans and wondered where the remainder of our meal was. We saved some green beans to go with our meals and rice since our food was no where to be seen. Then after 20 minutes of getting the green beans, my curry chicken arrived and it was nasty looking and tasting (I did not eat it). We then asked 20 minutes later for the remainder of our food (sesame chicken and 2 rices). The waiter brought out one rice and said "It's basically a medium" and would not bring us another one (but did only charge for 1 rice even though we specially wanted 2 small ones not one "medium" one that WAS NOT ON THE MENU). After 5 more minutes, my boyfriend got his sesame chicken. I wanted to wait to eat with him and my food was cold (I didn't like it anyways but still...it's the principle). They never once asked us if we needed anything and anytime we asked for something, it seemed like such a burden on them...
Do NOT go to Fang! It is absolutely the worst Chinese food I have ever had! My x, the father of my son and a friend is a famous Chinese man now living in HK. They may have thought I was a Caucasian woman who knew nothing about Chinese food...WRONG! I have had the best all over the world. I would give this place zero or negative stars if I could. Everything from the food to the service was AWFUL!
Peter Fang, Kathy’s Dad, personally ordered our food. He made our first time visit very special. The only thing that could have topped it would have been to meet Kathy!
Large portions of good food, poor service and dirty bathrooms
What a meal! Every dish was incredible, with a shout out for the fried rice, finished table-side and the prawns and mushroom - so intensely flavorful. We ate every bite and enjoyed the hustling busyness on Christmas night.
Christmas Eve dinner
Always my go to for Chinese when downtown. Had family in town visiting for the Christmas Holiday. We had just been to the SFMOMA and Fang is just around the corner - Very convenient! Also within walking distance to Yerba Buena Park/Metreon for a movie. A Must Order is the Eight Treasure Salad! So Yummy!! Everything on the menu is really good, but if you're going with a party of six or more, let the owner order for you! He will not disappoint!!
We were pleasantly surprised when Mr Fang offered to order for us! What an amazing treat!
Food was fair to middling, the service terrible. It's as if the staff is not trained to deal with people at all. Prices are too high for the experience.
