Truly amazing Dino’s experience.
Owner said that count on him not select from the menue.
Beaf with vegetables was great, soup with dumpling and nodules was taste so good.
Fried rice is bit oily.
I have eaten Chinese food all over the world
And I have to say without exception this was the absolute worst I have ever had
This place is great!
The food here is so good...but the service continues to be terrible. While the food cones quickly, there's no actual wait service per seat. They take your order, and slam your food down in HUGE bowls that mean there's little to no room to fit everything in on the tables for 2 or 4. They seem like automatons, and never engage. And it took 30 mins to get our check this time. There's other places we can spend our money, but it's a shame this place doesn't up their game. Also, a year since our last visit and the elevator is still broken. Meaning no disabled access to the nicer lower level...
Great food at fairly reasonable prices. Truly authentic Chinese fare, including the kitchen discussions going on. I would highly recommend this place!
They seated us even though we were late, which was nice. We sat in the back near boxes in the bar, but the waiter was fast and good, finding his way to our table.
Zucchini buns were delicious, yellow curry was delicious. Spicy noodles with cod was good too.
Quick service, family run restaurant with fresh food, good sauces and spices.
I dined at Fang about two years ago and the food and service were much better. This time, we were seated next to the service line where the noise level was annoying due to the constant chatter of the cooks and servers. Our server spoke practically no English and simply deposited the food on the table with no comment. Mr. fang was seen wandering about but never bothered to stop by to see how we were doing.. The food was good and the value was good. There are too many good places to eat in San Francisco, we won't be back at Fang.
Very nice meal!
We came here on a Saturday evening because we wanted authentic Chinese food, and the reviews were pretty good and the food looked delicious .
However, the experience went from bad to worse from moment we walked in. We told the first server we saw (a woman) that we had a reservation. She said she'd setup our table and walked away. Three other people then asked to help us, apparently unaware that we had already been helped. A fourth person then sat us at the bar while we waited for our table. There was no one behind the bar to help us. A server did come up and poor a glass of wine for another customer, but he did not acknowledge us at all or ask us if we wanted anything. After being ignored and seated at the bar (rather than a table), we decided to leave. This is too bad because the food did look and smell really good. But we just did not appreciate the sub-par, inefficient, and extremely disorganized service.
A traditional Chinese restaurant with some unusual and tasty twists. We started with lightly pickled and slightly sweet cucumbers, a refreshing start to the meal. The pork buns, open steamed buns with rich pork within were delicious and had us wanting more. Fang's signature honey chili shortrib was cubed, a nice surprise; we liked the crispness of the accompanying bok choy, but it didn't have much actual flavor. Noodles with clams and pork was unusual and tasty, although the noodles a little overcooked. Garlic eggplant with vegetable dumplings were a nice combination. Their wine menu is better than most Chinese restaurants, but I tried a special cocktail with apple, ginger and vodka which reminded me of cough medicine, so I'll stay away from those on my next visit. We left the food selection to the chef, Peter Fang, who was walking around and happy to recommend options.
Overall an average experience. The food wasn’t up to expectations followed by poor service and cleanliness. At the least, be friendly to your customers.
We had a blast
Delicious food! Great service as well. Thank you to the staff and chef.
Biggest disappointment in years of dining in San Francisco! Tasteless food, poorly presented, gummy noodles that tasted like they were cooked yesterday, surly service...almost as bad as House of Nanking which had previously had been our worst dining experience in the city. Don't waste your time or money at either.
Vegetarian and vegan friendly, just make sure to tell the server on any food restrictions.
The Sauteed Garlic Peashoots and Panfried tofu with yellow curry sauce, and seasonal veggies are one of the many highlights on the menu.
If you're feeling adventurous, have the waiter order for you.
I wish the noodle/rice dishes would come first. Our 5-spice fish came before our xiao long bao appetizers. Food sequence could have been better.
Really awesome food, convenient location after a Sf Moma visit!
Unfortunately I found a long hair in my food. The restaurant staff were not very friendly too.
What a great place to eat! The food was interesting and fresh. I took a couple of clients there and we all loved our meal! It was suggested that we let the server bring us several of their choices for us and I'm glad we didn't order off the menu. It was perfect.
Fantastic array of dishes brought to the table. We only made a couple of special requests, they were honored excellently. Will definitely come here again
Chef offered his own selection to our table of 6. Each dish exceeded expectation. Bravo.
It was not good... not what it used to be. Now they use too much sugar in their sauces (the sweet potatoes/tofu dish had a marmalade sauce) and their other sauces are based on store bought mayonnaise.... it is too bad. It used to be a very good restaurant. They have gone lazy..... this is my second bad meal there. I think that was my last attemp.
We had a very nice meal here. It wasn't very busy on a Sunday night and we ate early. We saw tasty looking food on tables either side of us, and we weren't sure what to order, we both like Chinese and were just looking at the menu and the server suggested doing a tasting menu. So we did! She told us how much it was, and we thought it sounded very reasonable. They kept bringing over food and everyone kept looking at us jealously! We liked everything they brought across and were very happy with her suggestion. We thought for the amount of food delivered it really was very reasonably priced. Perfect with the two of us, we tried far more dishes than we would have, if we'd selected larger dishes. Service was friendly and efficient the night we went, and overall we had a great experience. I would eat there again on a future trip to San Francisco. It was very close to the Convention Center, Marriott and Intercontinental.
The pics they post are deceiving. Not classy or quaint. Busy, loud, crowded. Even if you asked for good to come out in a paced fashion so that you can enjoy it it won’t. They bring it when and what order they want. I don’t know why they list appetizers, ours came out the last item of everything coming out at once. The tables around us had the same issue.
Instead of a nice dinner out all we did was eat and hurry.
Mr Fang took great care of our group! He selected the perfect variety of dishes and the right amount. The honey prawns are amazing! So was the sesame chicken. And we loved all the appetizers. Everything tasted fresh and delicious. Very reasonable prices as well. We were seated in the basement, which feels a little dungeon-like, but was fine and good for our group of 16 people. The piped music was too loud, but also not a big deal. I’ll be back for more of that great food!
One of the best experiences! Chef ordered for us... everything was excellent ! A definite winner of a place, especially for large groups.
The menus were dirty, the good had MSG in it, the water tasted like it had been stored in a metal container. I would not recommend this restaurant.
The owner took over ordering and
This was our second occasion dining at Fang's and the food was as good as it was the first time. We always let the owner order for after explaining our preferences. The food arrives at the table quickly as soon as it is prepared and in an order which doesn't rush your dining experience. Service is excellent and the variety exceptional. Highly recommended.
Server chose all our dishes which were all great, varied and tasty. Very pleasant scene. Perfect for pre-YBCA performance
The dumplings and egg roll was horribly over fried and greasy, those items that were stir-fried lacked flavor after we expressed to our server to “add some heat”!to the dish. The service was annoying, no ambiance, cleanliness was average at best. Save your money and go somewhere on Grant St in Chinatown.
Food was good, but service was terrible. Had to flag someone down to take our order, refill water and even to get our check. Dishes were never cleared from table and no one bothered to ever check on us. Food is not stellar enough to justify a return visit.
The food was good. Perhaps get it for take-out as the service was horrible. Every time I asked for something, like water or about the menu, the waiter acted like I was inconveniencing him. We didn't ask that many questions or make many requests. When I started to ask my first question, about a menu item, the waiter curtly answered and walked away. We still needed a bit of help, it was our first time there. Our food was practically thrown on the table.
The food is consistently outstanding, while at the same time varying from your "standard" chinese fare. Definitely recommend Fang for a great meal.
Fang is a local gem, close to the convention center. The owners and waitstaff are wonderful and for for a “real” Fang experience, ask them to order for you, you won’t be disappointed! Do make a reservation. Enjoy!!
Horrible service and not great food. I was embarrassed to have made reservations here.
Fang's for nothing!
Kathy Fang is an incredible chef as well as a lovely and gracious person. Her food never disappoints. The staff is young but very friendly and customer oriented. We always dine here when visiting from out of town.
