Dinner: Daily: 5:00pm - 10:00pm
2. Nearest Parking Lots: There are 2 lots available within half a block from our restaurant. One is located on Minna Street between 3rd Street and New Montgomery. The other is located directly across from Fang with entrances located on Howard Street between 3rd Street and New Montgomery as well as an entrance on 3rd Street between Folsom and Howard Street .
Couldn’t find anything without MSG. Meal was dripping either in oil or mustard
Food was delicious! Service was lacking.
I made reservations 24 hours in advance asking that they seat us near a window and away from the kitchen and bathrooms. They sat us next to the kitchen and bathrooms-no window. We waited 20 minutes and a waitress showed up and put a karafe of water on our table, holding her hand over the opening and made no eye contact and said nothing. Another 20 minutes of waiting and they take our order. They got spooked by the diners in our party with food allergies. They messed up the order. They forgot our drink orders and part of our food order-despite asking twice. One of the diners at our table got sick (MSG). The bathrooms are FILTHY-dirty floors, overflowing trash cans, the soap dispenser is broken so the pump on the pump soap is black. I wish we could give reviews with zero stars because giving Fang one star on any rating category is a star too much. Ew!!!! Don’t go to this restaurant.
Great dinner. But the highlight was our superb waitress who really took care with everyone in our large group
Enjoyable mapo tofu with brown rice. Shrimp dumplings (pan fried) were the stand-out.
Service was terrible. Waited for a waiter to come to our table for 15 minutes and 20 for them to clear table and get the check.
Very disappointing. I love The House of Nanking and was excited to try this place. Well, the food was subpar, and the service was ridiculously slow. First, the restaurant opened an hour later than was posted on the web. When we were seated, we had to wait a good 15 minutes before our order was taken. We continued to wait forever for our order and, 30 minutes later, were told that they didn't have the dish we ordered. After we ordered a second time, we had to wait another 20 minutes or so for our food. In the meantime, we had some egg rolls that were overcooked (dark brown) and hot and sour soup, which was okay. Our main dish, vermicelli noodles with shrimp, was also overcooked and oversauced. Not good. The bill was $38 for one meal, a cup of soup, and one appetizer. Would have been worth it if it was as good as The House of Nanking, but it wasn't. I can't believe these two places have the same owner.
Great food. We especially enjoyed the apple/shrimp, the green beans & the short ribs. The house made noodles were also delicious but did not arrive with veggies (although we were charged for them). We also were charged for veggies with the fried rice which were not received. If not for that, the service score would have been higher. Pomegranate margarita was tangy & refreshing but not much like a real margarita- nevertheless I would order it again. Looking forward to returning for another great meal.
Went for an early dinner on Saturday (4:30 pm). The restaurant was nearly empty so it was quiet and our food came fairly quickly. Service was OK, although not really attentive. Food was well prepared and well-spiced. The eggplant in garlic sauce and white fish dishes were excellent. Generous portions.
It's always a pleasure dining here, especially when we have the privilege of running into the exquisite chef and Fang co-owner Kathy Fang, whose gracious hospitality only enhances a great dining experience.
Amazing dining experience!! When we told Peter it was our first time he treated us to an amazing dining experience by ordering for us & surprising us with each course. It was delicious & authentic tasting & the service was awesome!!
There was food on my clean dish so I swapped it with the neighboring table. I also was not wearing lipstick and noticed some on my glass. Could do a better job on dishwashing, all else was good.
Good with flavor! Waiters that will order for you if you can’t make up your mind! You’ll want to come back for seconds!
We enjoyed a variety of dishes and were pleased with every single one! Our hands-down favorite was the signature Honey & Chili Crispy Short Ribs - simply spectacular! Our other “do not miss at all costs” were the pork belly buns
The food was delicious, the service was excellent and we loved the vibrant atmosphere. We have a new food memory that we will look to re-visit when we are next in SF. After all, there are a lot of dishes we want to try next time!
It is very popular with the tech crowd. When we got there at 6, 3 people servers kept coming over before we even had a chance to look at the menu. The situation was reversed when we were done and wanted our food to be packed to go. No one ever came back to take care of us. Will not be back.
Experience is typically ok at this place. That day was a disaster. All the main dishes came out and one potsticker/ dumpling type appetizer never came. When it was brought to their attention, they brought the wrong one. So they had to remake it. To make matters worse, one of our other companions had an allergic reaction to her dumplings and we thought it was MSG. As for the dish that came after the mains incorrectly, they still charged for it. A companion of ours ordered a side of rice and they brought him a whole big bowl. Service is minimal at this place. Mr. Fang is pushy when it comes to ordering for you family style. We missed his daughter Kathy’s presence coz she is always up to par and really takes care of her guests. What a bummer. I’d go back but my companions wouldn’t.
The food is always an experience here. I ate a couple of the Peking buns with shrimp. Two of us went, we also ate the portobello mushroom which was delicious and had the five spice white fish which was fantastic and together was great combo with some rice. That was plenty to eat — really love the flavoring in this place.
We love Fang for their wonderful vegetarian food and their personal service. You can order straight off the menu, but you can also just ask the chef to choose dishes for you (same is true at Fang’s sister restaurant, House of Nanking). We prefer to ask the chef to choose—and we’ve never been disappointed. Every dish was wonderful and so thoughtfully prepared. Sometimes vegetarian dishes can be an afterthought at restaurants, but not so here—you can tell that the dishes were designed with real care, and the meat eaters in our party loved them just as much as the vegetarians did. Also, the owner dropped by our table several times to tell us about the food and make sure we had enjoyed it. Such a nice personal touch!
We've been to Fang many times, however, this time the prices were insane. Our bill was $72, before tax & tip, no drinks, 3 vegetable dishes and a small field green salad which cost pennies was $14, crazy ! The food is good no question but not for the price. There are so many really good inexpensive Chinese restaurants in SF, next.
Das Essen hat sehr gut geschmeckt. Uns wurde ein Familienmenü empfohlen, was passed war.
This is our fourth visit to Fang. We always let the manager pick a sample of items for us, and he never disappoints. We had the crispy beef short ribs with bok choy, the five spice white fish, the honey apple prawns, the house fried rice, crispy rice cakes with vegetables, and steamed pork buns. The meat in the pork buns could have been more crispy and a sauce would have made it more enjoyable , but they were not bad. It was overall a great meal with friends.
There is the basement where our large party could be nicely accommodated.
We did leave the food order up to their recommendation, that's all great - yummy!
Came here for a team lunch with my office mates. Found it through OpenTable but upon making the suggestion, found that many of my teammates had been there.
Getting in and seated was a little bit of a challenge, because there was a long line of people just picking up food they had ordered on MealPal.
Once we did get seated, an older man, I'm assuming an owner or manager, just asked if we'd like to have our food family style and when we said yes, said he'd take care of us.
Food was delicious! We got brought out a lot of things. Highlights for me included: eggplant tofu, fried rice where the egg was cooked right in front of us, green beans. My coworkers who eat meat loved the beef and bok choy, and the whitefish.
I wish we could have had more control over when the meal was over. We were done at one point, but they brought out another course. We flagged down the same man who started out talking to us to let him know we were done. Then we sat quietly for a little while until we realized we had to flag someone down to ask them for the check. That was a little awkward but it didn't take away from how good the meal was.
Ambience was nice. There were nine of us at the table and we could all hear each other talk, which made for good conversation.
We do team lunches frequently, and one of my team members said that this was her favorite one we've done yet. Will likely come back in the future.
Great food. Fun for a big group so can try different dishes. Chex was a little pushy but all good!
Very good Chinese food, family owned. The oenet recommends the right menu.
Our first trip to Fang delighted us in every way. We were seated promptly and on time for our reservation despite a wait for walk ins. A manager (or owner?) asked if he could take care of ordering for us and we took him up on the offer. We enjoyed every dish starting with fava beans and pork dumplings, moving on to a short rib dish, a lightly breaded sauteed shrimp dish, and finishing with sizzling rice and a fabulous dessert. The portions were perfect for our group of three. The cooking here, at least for our menu selections, was elegant with robust flavors from every dish and delightfully presented. It lacked the heavy sauces so common with many chinese restaurants. Without question, the best chinese meal I have ever enjoyed .
The service was very lacking this time. Our first dish was brought out without any rice or utensils and we had to wait awhile before we got these so we could eat. The prices for the dishes are also quite steep.
The best Chinese food we've ever had (and we've been to China).
We put ourselves in the hands of the chef and were presented with 4 courses of amazingly delicious food.
The pork bao were excellent examples of this dish everyone has had before, but rarely of this quality. This was followed by crispy short rib with bok choy ... crispy cubes of succulent meat in a savory sauce that was lip smackingly good. Next came soy glazed whitefish with Chinese spinach. The highlight of the meal ... perfectly poached fish in a sauce that was sweet and savory and oh so good. Sizzling fried rice was prepared tableside and had crispy bits reminiscent of Korean bibimbap.
Our drink order was forgotten and we had to catch someone to finally get them, hence the ding on service, but the food made everything worth it.
The portions were very large so we were able to share two dishes with tons of left overs. The food was delicious and the service was fast.
A noisy and crowded venue, but just right for the task at hand, delicious and subtle flavors of basil and garlic and spices and various proteins cooked perfectly. There is a comfortable casual warmth and security when all know the Universe is balanced and Time extends throughout the Multiverse of your Table reflected in Infinite Mirrors.
Great Great food with amazing flavor. Service was quick and efficient. For the price the food was well above expectations. Its busy - get a reservation!
Wow what a treat this was- we were staying in San Francisco for one night with our two children when we decided to eat here.
We were seated quickly a high chair was available for our youngest. The hostess selected the dishes for us and they were delicious we had a beef short rib dish that melted in the mouth, a white fish dish and prawns with apple which I would never have ordered but was so delicious. Even our usually fussy children loved the dishes. Overall cost was around $110 including all drinks too. The best Chinese I’ve ever had wish it was on our doorstep
The food was extra special. A wide variety of dishes and unique flavors. We especially enjoyed the vegetarian dumplings and the vegetable chow mein
The food is very mediocre. The fish is really old. The pork is overly salty. The duck is not authentic style. Many of the dishes is just below average. What made it worse is that they charged more than what’s on the menu! We didn’t realize this until we left, that the price on the receipt is 1 to 5 dollars more than the price on the menu for each dish! This is deliberate fraud! Please just avoid this restaurant or pay close attention to the final bill!
Had a wonderful time at FANG and will certainly return. Just wish I could give it a FIVE STAR as it really should be one. But it's not. Not hard to turn into but employees are just not gracious or friendly.
1. Food is delicious. Fang was there that night and very modestly introduced himself and ordered for us. DELICIOUS! And he was respectful of my dietary needs
2. Quality of ingredients is stunning.
1. Mentioned several times we were there celebrating our friends 60th at her suggestion. Didn't bring out a special dessert or drink really even respond to my statement or prompt. Gift was on table so between my mentioning in reservation and at greeting with every employee and gift on table it was clear we were there to celebrate.
2. Besides Fang ordering for us, etc servers are absent. We ordered a bottle of wine and poured it ourselves. They never touched the bottle after opening it.
3. Employees are really not warm and welcoming or friendly. They appear busy and harried and not interested in engaging. So that was disappointing.
But food was back and when we return hope Fang will be there to order for us again. I honestly will call and if he is not at work I think I will cancel.
Felt very rushed, out in a corner next to a party of 6 men and the conversation and noise level was too much. Food came and tasted much better than it looked. Nice big portions but again rushed and was cold. Servers weren’t overly friendly and weren’t happy when I tipped $10 which I felt was more than gernerous. Not a bad place if you want a quick Chinese and isn’t too expensive we were just expecting a more classy experience.
I've been to Fang on one previous occasion and ordered - Sesame chicken and house-made noodles with chicken. It was the best I had in years!
During this last visit we ordered the exact same dishes. The Sesame chicken had double the amount of the sauce which was way to thick. They brought us a different kind of noodles than the one we ordered. When we talked to the waitress about it she said that those were the only noodle they had available. I refused the order of noodles. Then a few minutes later they came out with the original dish we had ordered. It was good but it had huge pieces of red onion and barely any noodles.
I will visit Fang again and hope they were just having an off day!
FANG was GREAT! We had a large group (15) and the chef (Fang himself) came out to introduce himself and asked us if we'd like him to choose our menu for the evening. We said yes and I'm SO glad we did! We got dish after dish of amazing food, it was fun to try new things and be surprised with each course. This is definitely a great place for groups and I would highly recommend taking Fang up on his offer of selecting the menu if he asks.
Lots of fun. There were 5 of us celebrating some work anniversaries. The waitress offered to bring us the best dishes, family style. We let her pick and the food was very good. Food comes out fast and hot and very tasty.
