We were celebrating my sister’s birthday at Fang primarily because we had both watched and enjoyed the Chef Dynasty House of Fang series. We were happily surprised to see her adorable dad greet us and take our order. Kathy came over to our table numerous times and I shared that we were celebrating my sister’s birthday. And just like that - Kathy appeared with an appetizer that was not on the menu ! All our food choices were amazing- especially the fried rice prepared at our table. We will definitely be back !! My sister is from Michigan and we had made this reservation months ago - not realizing that Dreamforce was also in SF at the same time. Service was great!

We had an 11:30 AM reservation and were seated immediately. When we got to the restaurant, we were greeted by Kathy Fang, which was a beautiful surprise. She took our order. Food was exactly what I was expecting, delicious. Also had the pleasure of meeting her dad, Peter. Will definitely go back and would recommend this place to anybody!

I’ve been in FANG many times and each time I got the best food, service, experience and vibe. They are Vegan friendly & ohh dear!!! The Vegan food is amazing; I asked my friends, by the way it was their first time here. They enjoy vegan & Non vegan food, last night they were in loved with both vegan and non vegan food. We did the Chef's choice menu, which is reasonable and quite fun. We got to taste 7 savory courses and finished with a sweet touch (sesame mochi and red bean), none of which we would have chosen on our own had we ordered a la carte and it did not disappoint. The food is fabulous. The service is very efficient, although not very personable. Overall, we loved it.

One of the worst service experiences ever! - Made a 7pm reservation. Not one staff person went near the host stand or checked their reservation system the entire time - it was gathering dust behind the very unsightly/messy host stand area. Stood at the door until 7:30pm with almost zero staff interaction until Mr Fang checked in with us. We told him we had a 7pm reservation. He walked away gruffly with barely any acknowledgement. Why do they even bother with reservations? - While waiting, we saw a staff member dragging a tethered plastic bussing bin with dirty dishes in it loudly across the floor, right by tables with dining customers. Weird and very off-putting! - Once sat, service continued to be poor. Asked a few questions, staff hardly paid attention and were not well versed in their menus. - My friend ordered a glass of wine which was corked. Since no one was checking in on us at all, she went up to the bar and was told the bottle had been open for a several days. - No one wished my friend a happy birthday even though it was mentioned in my reso notes AND we told at least 2 staff members, including Mr. Fang I could go on, but I think readers can get the gist. Suffice it to say, this place might have decent food (and honestly, it’s not the best Chinese I’ve ever had) but if that is all I wanted, I would have ordered take out. Going to a restaurant should be a thoughtfully curated experience across ambiance, food, and service….it’s called HOSPITALITY. There are many other reviews for Fang that report terrible service - it’s clear that the Fangs don’t care otherwise they’d rectify this. Maybe some folks are enamored enough by the fact they have a show on TV to turn a blind eye to how bad this operation is, but for those looking for the magic that can happen in a restaurant that truly understands and cares about hospitality, I recommend going elsewhere.

The chili potstickers were too hot to eat, the front doors of the restaurant looked ugly and ruined the effect. The apple shrimp was very good, as were the short ribs, the duck buns were wonderful. Was a treat to meet one of the owners, Peter. Would have been good to see Kathy in the restaurant.

The food was excellent but the service wasn’t. It took us over 20 minutes until we were able to get someone to wait on us. The dirty plates were thrown in a tub behind us. Some even bounced out of the tub. The drinks were ok. The parking was the worst. Either taxi or Uber there.

Unimpressed with this place. I probably would not return as there is nothing special here. We ordered potstickers, a chicken bao bun, shorts rib with bok choy, and the special house sizzling fried rice. The meats were cooked well, slightly crispy outside and nice and tender on the inside. They use frozen wontons here and dress them up with their own sauce. I really expected them to do a homemade wonton at this place. The Bao bun was acceptable. The bok choy in the short rib dish was not cooked which is OK if that’s what you prefer. With the special rice, we wanted beef and pork but we got shrimp. No beef and pork at all. The service was good, and the people were attentive.

There was an issue honoring our reservation time. Once seated the server didn’t understand a martini as a cocktail offered and we wrote it for her. But all in all the food is so delicious we were fine with any and all hiccups. We will continue to come here as well as The Nan King

The buns are heavenly. The eggs for the fried rice were cooked on the skillet tableside to mix with the rice so it's full of aroma and tasted super fresh. The cold duck and the pork bellies are on top of my list of must eat as well. Staff are super friendly and very attending. Visited 3 times last month and will definitely go again whenever we visit SF.

Food arrived before the soup. Everything I ordered was smothered with red onions, what were they thinking? Some of the food was burned. Not good at all. The room was hot and had very little air circulation. Very, very disappointed. Don't go there. Avoid the place.

Overall, it was a good experience. Upon arrival, we were not greeted by a very nice lady. She came to the table abruptly to take our food order. Didn't even ask if we wanted a drink. Mr. Fang came to the table later on and made it much more enjoyable. I would not recommend this to my friends. Made a point to uber across town from our cruise terminal, just not worth the time and money. I was so looking forward to have a great time as it looks like on TV.

One of the best meals we have ever had. We wound up with a tasting experience which we didn’t ask for, or was it discussed with us- In the end it didn’t matter because the dishes chosen by co-owner Peter Fang were perfect. This was absolutely an evening we will talk about for a long time.

Fang is a slightly upscale version of the fabled House of Nanking, and both deserve all the accolades they get. Peter Fang and his daughter, Kathy (she runs both House of Nankin and Fang now, though her dad is still around a lot), are wonderful chefs, with excellent offerings on the menu - and if you're lucky enough to get to talk with one of them directly about the food, you may just get something extra special off-menu. Just trust them if you have this opportunity. Generally, there's something for everyone here, including vegetarians, meat eaters, seafood lovers and those who like it hot or those who do not. Order a variety of dishes and share so you get to taste more of their unique creations.

The main dining room can accommodate up 80 seated guests, has standing room of 100, a full bar, and a full open kitchen.The second dining room has a full open kitchen and two semi-private rooms, which seat 110 guests. The glass room can accommodate up to 14 seated guests and is a semi-private room. The Tibetan back room can accommodate up to 22 seated guests and is a semi-private room. The entire restaurant, both main and second dining room combined, seats up to 200 guests.
