Salted Pork Belly
with Japanese Pumpkin, wok tossed with garlic and chili
Food was very delicious
My best advice: let the chef choose your menu. You will be in for a treat.
Not conventional Chinese food. We left thinking the experience was “interesting.” Waiter went from super rude and abrupt to very nice and helpful when he realized we spoke Chinese also. Very odd experience overall.
The food here is very good. Taste, portion and quality. The service is lacking. Its rushed despite an almost empty restaurant. If the service could match the quality of the food, this would be outstanding.
Excellent service and excellent food. We loved everything we ordered.
Always a great experience.
Fang is original and delicious
This is a great spot just around the corner from SFMOMA. We had a delightful lunch and then headed to the museum. Very unique flavors, not your typical Chinese. The staff was terrific.
We were happy group of friends at Fangs for our third visit there. As before, every dish we ordered was all about flavors and presentation , all outstanding. In fact, we almost ordered a second round of the pork belly buns, mmmmmm. The post-Covid menu seems cut down as does the drinks menu, and the “bartender” was no bartender...but did a fine job with anything standard. Great staff and service, beautiful interiors and a real pleasure when you can chat with either Mr. Fang or his daughter. Needless to say, we’ll be back.
90s vibe Chinese chic with good food
They didn’t have everything available and honestly the food was not good at all. Completely over priced as well. No one was in there at 6-6:30 on a Friday night.
This place was completely closed boarded up! It looked like it had been closed for
months. Can’t imagine why they are in your system.
Very delicious Chinese food near Mascone Center. Our new favorite in the city.
Peter wasn’t there….the food wasn’t the same as usual.
I had been here once pre-pandemic and had a wonderful meal, great service- a really nice experience. Was happy To see that they were open, though boards covered windows and there were tell-tale signs of the delivery business in view.
I arrived following a party of eight, and was greeted quickly. I mentioned that I had a reservation though the server did not appear to check and simply pointed to and available two top. So much for any Open Table points!
From that point on we received the most basic of rushed services: menus tossed on the table, carafe of water, and back 5 minutes later waiting for our order. Items came out quickly, albeit piecemeal. Spare Ribs and Steamed Buns were outstanding.
We were finished for maybe 15 - 20 minutes before our server returned to ask if we wanted a box. She returned soon after and we waited another 10 minutes for a check.
It is clear they are working hard, and I hope they will be fully staffed soon. This restaurant demands better service standards than the House of Nanking, and once that issue is resolved, it will be a solid recommendation.
Added bonus to end the evening - seeing Peter Fang check in on guests. Have always appreciated his attention to this often-overlooked step, and seeing him here is reassuring that the food and experience remain the priority.
Good! Very Good!
We had the waitress order for us. She did a great job! The short ribs and bok choy was outstanding, as was the sizzling fried rice. I will definitely be back.
It was very nice, went in the morning so not as busy as it probably gets but the food was awesome, service was great (we were all impressed that the waiter memorized our complicated order) and the prices are super reasonable.
It was great to go back.
I love the tea and soup
I honestly don’t know what happened to Fang.... it was super authentic and was a sweet spot in the city . Today was a total shock to me. All menu updated and all authentic dishes are gone. Waitress are rude and not responsive.
We tried the house fried rice, sesame chicken and the schezwuan eggplant. They were all excellent!
We ate at the House of Nanking two nights ago and thought we would try the sister restaurant. Fang was a joy in every way. We love both but were blown away by the complex flavors an amazing information from Kathy Fang herself.
We went in and asked for the recommendations (you give your food allergies and preferences) and they bring out multiple dishes. You do not have to choose a specific dish. All the food they bought out was amazing. and the price was very reasonable
Don't let the ambiance and non-friendly service get in your way of tasting some of the best "fusion" Chinese cuisine. This place is genuinely good. The food is amazing. The chef cooks with heart. If this place actually presented food in a better ambiance, they could charge double the prices and still sell out. All of their meat dishes are deliciously paired with fruits/veggies that perfect complement the flavors. This is a hidden gem in FiDi.
The very best, freshest, and most carefully prepared Chinese dishes we have had in a long time. Every one of our five dishes, from appetizers to soup to entrees tasted very different and extremely delicate and delicious. The owner helped us choose what to order and took an interest in all the diners. Service was prompt and efficient but not intrusive. Two of us were very well fed for under $100, a good price in San Francisco.
Standard Chinese food ingredients, but with a completely original execution, resulting in unique dishes. Wonderful dumplings and sauce. All outstandingly delicious. Staff was polite, but somewhat refrained in its welcome and service. Great place to have a tasty meal and still be able to easily hear what the person across the table from you is saying. Rare these days.
Beautifully executed. Delicious array of both standard and less common choices.
Awesome food and service!
Fabulous food. Good staff.
Having to wait 35 minutes despite making a reservation stunk.
We made an opentable reservation, came on time and were told that there is a wait of 40-45 minutes.
We had a productive meeting and delicious meal. The experience could have been better had the menu for the meal be revealed in advance. There was no query whether any of our attendees had any food allergies or restrictions. Service was slow yet it was busy. Several members of the service staff did not appear to have strong English language skills.
Really good! It was more food than I could finish and I will return on my next visit to this city.
Very bad experience - we waited for our food for > 1hour, only a few dishes arrived with no visibility for the timeline on the next one. Eventually had to cut our losses and leave the place hungry
Rude dismissive service, we didn't even have a dedicated waiter
The food was very underwhelming too
Never going back
The food is great. Fang, the owner and chef, asked if we had any food limitations. With none, he took our menus and the surprises started. Every dish was great. I am really surprised we got in, but OpenTable got the reservation and we had a great meal.
The food here is FANTASTIC, especially for the price. Ambiance is great as well. Service is a little sporadic but overall, it was a great experience.
Most dishes are wonderful. With a group of six, we asked the manager to select dishes. He listened, two vegetarians, one pescatarian, and delivered a delicious banquet. I would give Fang 5 stars, but the crispy noodles and vegetables was nice t good, and very different from past visits. Everyone loves their short ribs, but this time they were dry and shriveled.
Breaded shrimp, little bay shrimp in a soy-honey sauce, buns with portobello mushrooms, crispy and tender- just amazing dishes!
I hope Fang checks on their quality and continues serving the delicious dishes they are known for.
Great Food, A bit overpriced. servers can be a bit more personal
Owner/chef was amazing. Customized our meal & every dish was soooo tasty. Would definitely recommend.
