Family Meal
Omg another awesome meal. Everything tasted great as always.
We were seated 35 minutes after our reservation time. After that service was great; but the restaurant didn’t do anything to make up for the delay. The hostess was clearly overwhelmed and was not empowered to help us, or, it seems, even trained to deal with those kinds of situations.
I love this place! The only thing that bothers me every time is the temperature. Up front it's always too warm and at the back, while more comfortable, much cooler. Not sure what you can do with all those windows, but it's the only negative I have and I notice it every time I'm there! Food and service is outstanding!!
Great food and service!
Family Meal is one of my go to spots, especially with the kids. The food and service are always great and the menu changes frequently. It’s the perfect spot if you want a more elevated meal than chains and provides great options for the kids too.
They changed a few of our favorite salads (bring back the other beet salad please) but overall a positive experience.
My husband and I were very impressed with our experience at Family Meal. The location is deceiving but the food, ambience and service were great! We accidentally arrived during happy hour and the specials were totally worth it! We loved the more casual atmosphere for high quality food. We’ll definitely be back!
We all had salads with crispy yummy awesome salad. My son had the hummus Mediterranean salad- he said awesome, girlfriend had beet and goat cheese which I love too and yes excellent and I had the roasted veggie- yummmm! And we all had great desserts!
Not as good as I remember. However, it feels more like a brunch kind of place. I’ve enjoyed that in the past.
The meal was great. It was just a lunch date with friends and we enjoyed the meal and desserts. The appetizer of onion rings were fresh and the dipping sauce was delicious.
Great food and drink! Large portions and very tasty! Our only negative is that they sat us in a booth adjacent to the entrance. So every time a patron opened the door, the cold air was on us and it was freezing out that night. Plus everyone who was waiting for a table was staring at us. Probably the worst table in the restaurant but it wasn't that big of a deal. They should put up a screen.
Great burger. Waiter was very attentive. Kid-friendly.
Perfect dinner! Amazing beet and goat cheese salad with perfectly cooked salmon and side of roasted Brussel sprouts, butternut squash, pumpkin seeds and dried cranberries with a glass of Pinot Grigio! Perfect and incredibly affordable! Great service! Great meal!! Love this place and in 2 weeks I’ll really celebrate my bday with my son at Volt! Love both places! This was a perfect meal for me!
Very nice restaurant. The food, service, and atmosphere were all top-notch. Prices are excellent considering the quality of the food and the amount you receive.
Fantastic service! Servers are very friendly as are the hostesses. Food is great and comes in a timely manner.
As always, everything was delicious and the service was great. We had the onion soup, wedge salad, fried chicken and catfish. All were perfectly prepared, hot, and tasty.
The fried chicken was not as good as I remembered it, the waiter was just o.k. He was friendly but did not ask me if I wanted a refill on my iced tea which would have been nice.
Excellent place! I made the reservation to surprise my wife and she felt in love with the place!!
My favorite breakfast spot in Frederick. Delicious food! Love that they rotate menu based on season.
Our server and meal were both fantastic...highly recommend the Chicken & Waffles and Biscuits & Gravy were absolutely delicious. Keep up the great work, we will definitely be going back soon
Luckily we’ve been here before and love it because this was not a good experience. When walking into the restaurant there was no host at the front. Several employees walked by but nobody even acknowledged us. After about 3 minutes the host showed up and we let her know that we had a reservation. We were seated immediately and greeted by a friendly server. We ordered drinks and asked him about a few new dishes on the menu. He simply answered that he didn’t know about them because he’d never had them. After getting our drinks we ordered dinner. After about 30 minutes we asked about our food. The server apologized and said they were really busy. We could see this because we were right next to where the food was coming out and could see the only manager was the one putting all the food together for the servers. I had ordered the apple pancakes and watched them sit in that window for over 10 minutes before the rest of our order was ready. They finally brought out 3 of our 4 dishes about 48 minutes after we ordered. My pancakes were hot on the surface but very cold once I cut into them. I sent them back and then we waited for my daughter’s food to arrive. Her food came about 5-6 minutes after the rest of ours. The other 2 dishes we ordered were both cold but neither my wife or older daughter wanted to wait any longer so they ate their food. My pancakes finally arrived about 10 minutes later after everyone else had finished eating.
After all this I will say that our food was excellent despite taking close to an hour for the last dish to be delivered and longer for the dish that had to be re-made.
I fully understand the restaurant was busy but it was Friday night at 6:00 and they just seemed very overwhelmed and possibly understaffed. We don’t mind waiting for our food on a busy Friday night but this was nothing like our normal experience here. There was nothing done to even acknowledge the issues.
we are big fans of Family Meal but lately have gotten so so service and overcooked food. there's always a reason...change in shift, sitting outside vs. inside. not sure we will return
We often have breakfast at Family Meal (always outstanding!) but treated ourselves to lunch. The burger made my husband quite happy and I loved the roasted beet salad. We shared the onion rings— I think the best we have ever tasted (even as I was skeptical about a corn flake coating but am now a convert.). The bacon horseradish dip that accompanies the onion rings should be a “carry home” item. It would shine on crudités, baked potatoes, grilled meats, you name it!
It used to be a treat to dine at this restaurant. The drink menus were creative, the food exciting. So we returned for our anniversary dinner to find a different sort of dining experience. First off, the menu is getting stale. No new choices, and the only seafood available (other than shrimp and grits) was catfish? The drink menu was ok, but my cider drink was nothing to crow about for $11, and my wife’s Long Island Ice Tea was average at best. The frittata was badly over cooked, nearly burned, and had no accompaniment other than two tiny grape tomatoes. However, the onion rings were delicious!
Worst of all, the noise level. With only an average crowd, we could barely hear ourselves talk. I will, however, give high marks to our server, whose name I believe was Jackson. An excellent job done under the circumstances.
Worst meal out that I have had for quite some time. The food quality and execution was absolutely NOT worth the cost. The proteins were over cooked, the fries were burnt, the pimento, mac-n-cheese was tasteless with almost no cheese and maybe 2 pimentos throughout..and the list goes on. Also, they were either out of, or "running short" on quite a few things.
I have been to this restaurant many times before and while the last time was not as good as the first couple times, I thought that I would try again; sadly, it has gone down hill even more. I really hope they get it together or lower the prices for the quality they are putting out.
Third time eating at Family Meal. I wish this place was closer to our house because we’d go often. Two double stack burgers, one regular burger, and I had the Nashville Chicken sandwich. All of us enjoyed the meal immensely.
Fries were excellent and I love the dipping sauce options. Pimento mac ‘n cheese was the one disappointing item we ordered. Nothing special and had no sign of pimento.
Excellent local beer options on tap.
Service was a bit choppy but probably because we arrived at a shift change time.
My husband and I had two friends to join us for breakfast. Except for my husbands meal we were pleased with our food. My husband ordered 2 eggs and got 3, plus the sausage was not edible. My hotcakes were delicious. I asked for more maple syrup and received it. We generally love Family Meal any time of day and frequent the restaurant. The noise level was high on Saturday morning and we were seated next to a table of happy men...noisy men, and even talking across our table and being heard was difficult. What can be done about the noise level?
Good food and great service !
I ordered Biscuits and Gravy, there were no biscuits. My wife's order of French Toast was very sparse.
Overall it is a nice place. Went during breakfast hours. The french toast was very different. Not sure what kind of bread that was. Reminded me of tofu. The thickness was like a harder sponge. The taste was not your traditional french toast taste either which made me sad. Certain parts you got some flavor, but, majority it was super bland and a lot of texture. For that reason, it was 4 star. It turned me off a smidge. Pancakes tasted great. No issues there. Coffee was on point and so was the cider. Server forgot about us but when we flagged him down he was nice. Server should also wait and see if anyone else needs refill before running away. It wasn't busy and the 2 times we had to go get him...my drink never got refilled and table was never asked/checked in on his end. Attentiveness needs a little help there
Great food
great food always and milkshakes/adult milkshakes are absolutely the must. Not a healthy meal but well worse it.
I had higher expectations for this restaurant especially since it's part of the Voltaggio brothers' restaurants. We had the deviled eggs, old bay wings and the fried chicken as appetizers. The wings were tasty but the fried chicken had no flavor, the meat was moist, but I was expecting to be wowed by what they are supposed to be known for...I ordered the pastrami sandwich since the waiter said they made it in house and put in a lot of effort to make it taste great, however, the meat was also very bland. I tried the classic burger that someone else in our table ordered and the meat itself was flavorless, even the bacon was lackluster. Perhaps my expectations were set too high, but I was certainly disappointed by the food...
Food was pretty good, not great. Server not having her best day, forgetting to bring food/drink items a few times. Not sure we’ll go back with so many other options in the vicinity.
It's upscale comfort food. Prices are a bit high for 'comfort food' but justified.
Always great food, but could be a little noisy and waters are changing way too fast. New waiters could be somewhere annoying. Adult milkshakes are so much fun ))
The overall experience is great every time. I was Disappointed in the catfish poboy though. As a native of Louisiana, it was mediocre.
Great food, wonderful service. A lovely time with friends.
Awesome first time experience. The blueberry pancakes were perfect. The omlett and crispy potatoes were freshly prepared and perfectly cooked. The fresh donuts, lemon meringue and cinnamon were a great take home treat. The service is what made it great all around. Our server Josh was friendly, knowledgeable, attentive, and really made it a memorable first experience. We will be back.
Family Meal is ALWAYS Outstanding. From the pot pie fritters to the catfish po boy. Lest I forget the duck fat fries. One of the easiest recommendations by far. The only easier Recommendation is Volt.
