Falstaff in Canterbury
Relax in our beautifully refurbished lounge and enjoy one of our afternoon teas. A pot of freshly brewed loose leaf tea, freshly baked warm scones served with clotted cream and preserves, an assortment of finger sandwiches and a selection of cakes. Why not add a glass of champagne or cocktail to make the occasion even more special!
Just fancy a drink? No worries, book a table in our relaxed modern cocktail bar serving up a mix of in house creations and classic cocktails as well a phenomenal selection of spirits, focusing on Gin, Whiskies and Tequila alongside an exceptional wine and beer selection.
I felt the size of the scones were very small for the price of the afternoon tea.
Delicious afternoon tea! The Falstaff is nearby the town centre and the cathedral, which makes it even more special.
Last minute booking due to cancelled plans in London but they called to confirm and were so accommodating and genuinely happy to have us. The service was amazing and so attentive, food was unreal - proper Italian pizzas, and they refilled our glasses so quickly! Only downfall is that you can’t mix the drinks, so once you’ve ordered one you have to stick to that (i.e. prosecco) but would be nice to have tried out one of the slushies! But can’t fault it other than that and the prosecco was delicious, and it also keeps you from mixing too many drinks which is good really!
Lovely place to have an afternoon tea. Good amount of space between the tables.
Friendly helpful Staff. Busy atmosphere As there is a bar quite close to the tables. Not a traditional afternoon tea setting but still nice.
The tea itself was pleasant but not the best, fairly basic sandwiches And average cakes.
It was a really nice touch that the person we were celebrating was brought out a little personalised plate of extras a lovely idea.
Fabulous - cosy atmosphere. Would highly recommend afternoon tea at the Falstaff
Everything was good about this, from the attention of the staff during these difficult times to the quality of the afternoon tea, sandwiches, scones and cakes - all delicious! Not forgetting the great range of cocktails too! . Couldn’t fault it, thank you we hope to be back soon.
Excellent service, felt very safe with all the Covid-19 precautions and just a lovely afternoon out! Food was amazing!
Had a lovely afternoon tea celebrating our anniversary. Will return.
Lovely Afternoon tea and great service! I went with my daughter for a treat.
Hotel was not as smart and glamorous as expected and food served in takeaway boxes but that was due to Covid restrictions. Afternoon tea food was absolutely delicious could not fault it at all. Quite pricey at £16 per head but lovely for a treat. Excellent service
Very happy with the cleanliness and systems in place re:covid. Staff super friendly, great cocktails and the bar menu hit the spot. So glad they're open again!
Had a great time, the food was good and the the staff were attentive , will go back again.
Having booked for my mums 80th Birthday the staff couldn't do enough to help.. Giving me a seating area for my mums elderly friends, decorating the table.. We had afternoon tea, my only negative is the selection of cakes were abit boring.. Sorry.
Other than that perfect. Thank you.
From beginning to end the experience was amazing. Service, ambiance, food and drinks were spot on! Thank you Falstaff for a memorable afternoon.
A wonderful afternoon tea, with fresh, very tasty finger sandwiches.
A selection of cakes & treats plus a plain & fruit scone served with plentiful amounts of strawberry jam & clotted cream. Our tea was also topped up as and when needed, perfect!!
Perfect in every detail would recommend on all counts
Everything was very good had the champagne afternoon tea
Thank you Falstaff and staff for making my friend’s 30th birthday special. I am blown away by how accommodating you were for a pregnant woman who couldn’t have caffein or alcohol, and a vegan who wanted to enjoy afternoon tea with her friends. Smashing service! Will definitely come again!
The cream tea was excellent, just the job for our friends 88th birthday treat. The booking was smooth and waitress friendly. Placed in a position for easy access. Sadly the easy access area was gradually filled with very noisy young people so difficult to have a conversation. Can not fault the tea just put folk like us in a quieter spot next time! Our friend would like to return for her 90th!,!
Booked for afternoon tea for my friends birthday. I had stated this when booking that it was for a birthday when asked if I had any special requests. We had champagne afternoon tea. The waiter by accident spilled the champagne all over my friend and I. We understood of course accidents happen but to make it worse, the table was wet our napkins were wet and the floor. He returned with another champagne but no fresh napkins, did not clean the table and my plate was not replaced which was visibly wet. It was poor service. The waiter did apologise but he did not return to our table. After a while, we were offered fresh tea and coffee from a woman. I went to pay and I asked did the hotel cater for special occasions. I was told when booking, if you state there's an occasion like a birthday etc the hotel writes happy birthday on a plate. I did not expect anything in return for the spilled champagne but maybe better service would have been appreciated. I normally don't post bad reviews but for the price I paid for the afternoon tea, I regret the location I picked. As I was only over for the weekend, we were meeting friends for drinks after the afternoon tea. We were going to have drinks in the hotel but after our poor experience we decided against and went somewhere else.
Friendly staff, gluten free option available. Cosy setting. Would of preferred a china cup and saucer for tea not the mug.
Would definitely return.
Excellent all round, no complaints! The scones were the best iv ever had, warm and freshly home made!
Afternoon tea at the Falstaff on Christmas Eve has become our traditional family start to Christmas - just perfect.
We went to Falstaff for Afternoon Tea on Christmas Eve, and it was truly a delightful experience. The dining room was lovely with Christmas decorations, the server was warm and attentive, the tray foods was lovely and delicious, and they had some really nice teas to choose from. We especially liked the Kentish Apple Tea, and asked where we could purchase some. The server went to some effort to locate a small shop in town where it was sold and then to give us directions how to go there so we could get some. REally appreciated that. Wish we had time to go the Falstaff for a full meal, because it was a nice setting and we know the food would be great. Maybe next time we are in Canterbury!
Brilliant afternoon beginning with a fun filled cocktail class at 1.30. Our mixologist was faultless keeping four menopausal women in order was no mean feat. Well Done to him! Thoroughly enjoyed by all.
Afternoon tea was in the most perfect spot on the sofas with crackers and Santa hats. Service was a little slow and there appeared to be a teapot issue, but the friendly staff were responsive and very friendly. We couldn’t eat all the cakes ! The only feedback would be more sandwiches and less cake, but that’s a preference and not a criticism.
Thank you for a great afternoon in lovely surroundings
We didn’t even get to try the food! We were booked in for an afternoon tea but due to a market being on-the public car parks were full. We parked in the almost empty hotel car park but was told (in a very rude tone by management) that we couldn’t park there but on this occasion they would allow us for a fee of £10! Usually charged to hotel guests for 24hrs but to charge us for 2hrs seemed ridiculous, especially as we had offered to pay £5! I would have given zero stars for the very poor customer service but 1 was the minimum I could do! I will not be returning!
The venue was very well presented and it had a nice relaxed atmosphere. The service was good as they seemed to be very busy. We had a slight mishap with our cake stand as it fell over and the cakes ended up on the floor with the pot of jam too! But it was cleared up and the cakes were replaced without any trouble at all. Overall a very enjoyable experience.
A most enjoyable birthday celebration afternoon tea. Food and service were excellent and the place was perfect.
Our waiter was very lovely! Didn’t get his name but so attentive and looked after us very well, ace service. Will be coming back again soon!
Cheap ingredients and very overpriced for what it was - expected more
The venue is beautiful & the staff we’re very friendly, even though he was very new.
I was a little disappointed with the sandwiches. They were extremely small & the flavours were nothing special.
Although the cakes were nice, there was little variety in texture as two of them were sponge based. (Carrot cake & vanilla sponge). Again they just felt a little uninspiring.
It was very relaxing & a beautiful setting, so made for a lovely Birthday catch up with friends, but I didn’t leave feeling wowed by anything we’d eaten.
We went to the Falstaff for my mums 70th birthday. Thoroughly enjoyed it food was lovely and definitely recommend it to friends and will definitely come back.
THE WHOLE EXPERIENCE WAS EXCELLENT AND WE WOULD VISIT AGAIN WITHOUT HESITATION!
Booked afternoon tea for my daughter and I. Can't fault the service and the tea was good value for money. We finished off with a cocktail on the terrace outside, will be going back again in the not too distant future. Would thoroughly recommend the Falstaff to friends and family.
Had a fantastic time. The food was great. Service was amazing. Only downside was the smell of cigarette smoke coming through the windows where people were smoking outside.
Enjoyed afternoon tea on a sunny Sunday in a surprisingly central Canterbury location. Friendly relaxed service, good value portions, in space both olde-worldy and groovy at the same time. Next time I will make sure we can enjoy a cocktail or two, the menu looked awesome.
Lovely atmosphere and super service. I certainly recommend the afternoon cream tea which has a lovely balance of light sandwiches and cakes and delicious fresh scones.
Lovely venue and very attentive staff. Went for a friends birthday and she was made to feel very special. Will be back again soon.
Disappointing slabs of tray bake cakes
Great scones
