Room was on the dark side and we sat next to a noisy table. Entrees were a bit over cooked but service was fine
Everything from the initial greeting to the service experience and food was perfect! Definitely recommend for a special occasion or just a date night!
Great meal, as allows. The wait staff is attentive, but not intrusive. The music is fairly quiet, so you can have a conversation. Food is excellent. Never feel rushed there.
The perfect place to celebrate a very special occasion. The staff did a wonderful job of accommodating our friend with special dietary restrictions as well as mobility issues. I had the steakhouse salad which was outstanding! It was Triangle Restaurant Week, so the value on those specials was definitely five stars!
The Fairview was very nice. We went there for Triangle Restaurant Week and what we ate was very good, but nothing special really. It is a beautiful place, though, and the service was great. We are looking forward to going back there for Sunday brunch one day! The beer recommendation was great also!
Fantastic meal and service this restaurant will be our special place. Definitely will come back for birthdays and anniversaries and just when you want a great meal was fantastic service
Probably the best dining experience I’ve had in Durham.
Very attentive wait staff, delicious food and surprise birthday dessert for my guest. Lovely experience overall. Fairview never disappoints.
Visited for Triangle Restaurant Week lunch as was not disappointed. Service is always exceptional, the meal was delicious, produce was extremely fresh, and the box of cookies for dessert is an extra treat. Always a nice dining experience.
Service was glacial. I am fine with slow service, ala Europe, but this was exceptionally slow. Two entrees were overcooked. The wine prices were extremely high.
The amuse-bouche was excellent and the deserts good (aside from serving bananas with chocolate cake.
The building is lovely (aside from freezing AC in the corridors) and the seats comfortable.
My chicken and waffle came out completely cold. My first bite into the chicken was met with a nearly ice cold center. It was as if they made chicken early that morning, and then maybe warmed it for each order. The waffle was dry, and cold - so cold the butter did not melt. The Umstead was so much better - ambiance, less pretentious and more welcoming to minorities.
Restaurant was not crowded but understaffed and very slow service. Very limited vegetarian options.
We had a lovely dinner celebrating our anniversary! Food and service were exceptional as always.
The outdoor/patio seating at the Fairview on a lovely Spring evening is quite spectacular! The service is always impeccable and the food delicious.
Have often enjoyed dining in the bar, room service, or the Fairview at Washington Duke. Mothers Day/post Commencement dinner was horrible. Service was non existent probably because service was included in the bill --18 percent. Brought our appetizers (soup) while we were still eating the amuse bouche. These appetizers came out almost as same time as Amuse. Barely a moment to try the amuse when plunk, they put soup on table and left. Then the amuse bouche glasses and welcome champagne glasses stayed on table for all 6 of us throughout dinner! The dirty empty dishes/glasses I had to ask to be removed many times. Finally I got up, gathered the 6 empty champagne glasses and dishes from the Amuse and stacked them at my place so they had to remove them.
Food was just ok, fillet mignon very dry.
Given Zero service and marginal food and forced 18 percent tip it was kind of a crappy Mother's Day/post commencement rip off. Sad.
Everything was excellent!
Service and food at Fairview is always top notch. Will continue to be regular visitors, typically for special occasions or when friends come to town.
Typical hotel restaurant in food quality. Basically mediocre. Appetizer was ok but the items did not speak to each other. The salad was over dressed but arranged in a pretty fashion. The salmon was excellent but the risotto was cooked by an American. Our waitress was great and the food adequate.
We enjoyed an outstanding "Dinner at Dusk" 3 course special with friends. Everything exceptional except one item, the crab cake was not quite up to par. Exceptional service! "Dinner at Dusk" is truly a bargain. We would return anytime, especially for a special occasion!
Great food, great ambiance, as usual! Brunch is fantastic!
Wonderful atmosphere, excellent lunch menu. Upscale dining room.
Was a comfortable dining experience. We enjoyed the food that was prepared creatively.
Great, friendly service and very good food. Had breakfast and lunch and would rate same for both.
Amazing service, as always, and delicious food! This is my favorite restaurant in Durham because it is consistently a great dining experience!
Awesome food. As always incredible and friendly service. The setting on their outdoor patio can’t be beat!
What a treat! Amazing food! Expensive but if you need a beautiful place to go to and have an outstanding meal, this place is it.
The waitress Samantha was amazing! The restaurant is lucky to have such wonderful employee. The food and wine were incredible as well. We were with my two teenagers and they loved everything. The only huge negative I have and it has to be said...... the four young men (appeared to be in their 20's) who were seated next to us. One of them wore their baseball cap the whole time. This was obviously a place not to do that. It was a fancy southern 5 star restaurant. He should have been asked to remove his cap. Or there should at least be a sign asking to remove baseball caps before entering the restaurant. It is connected to the Washington Inn Duke resort and hotel. I did say something to the host who said there was nothing they could do. That is hard to believe..........Dampened the experience.
My experience was wonderful!
The environment at the Wash Duke is very pleasant and the presentation of the food and desert table for brunch is good. The service is good. The price, though, is too high for the quality of the food.
The meal and service was excellent. We sat at a booth in the main dining room. The live piano playing in the background was perfect. Will return for sure
Outstanding service. Jasmine Salmon was well done and crab cake was flavorful. Beautiful ambiance.
We dine at the Fairview throughout the year as we are members of their Executive Club, which offers special value for diners and invitation to special tasting dinners. This visit was our first to sample the new spring menu and we were extremely happy with our choices. After sampling two of their signature cocktails, our first course choices were the tomato basil soup and the chickory-rubbed rare tuna with a lovely mango puree and delightful, crunchy kimchee rice frites. The portion of the tuna was quite generous, which made me happy that I had opted for a second appetizer for my main course rather than a larger typical dish. I savored the artisan cheese plate with a glass of Malbec while my husband indulged in the Braised Veal Duet. His plate was colorful, artistic and so appealing! The osso bucco and veal cheek were accompanied by roasted belgian potatoes, brussels sprouts, blistered tomatoes, spring carrot emulsion and crispy shallots. Again, the portions were generous and he ended up taking some home after. No room for dessert, but it was a thoroughly delightful meal!
easy to make reservation and the staff did read my additional comments. It was my boyfriend's birthday and everyone welcomed us with a 'happy birthday.' Super friendly staff.
Nice setting, very warm + old vibes. Mood lighting.
We got a 3 course meal (I got the Dinner at Dusk 3-course meal for $35 and my boyfriend got food off the regular menu. Both turned out to be about the same price so it doesn't really matter too much which you choose).
Amuse-bouche (shown in photo). Very delicious pre-appetizer.
We also got bread and butter. The small biscuits were really good and we asked for more!
Course 1: I got the Spring Salad which was really yummy and a decent size. I expected it to be smaller. My boyfriend got the shrimp, corn, and bacon chowder which was smaller but since it's creamier it was still filling, especially as an appetizer. Again, delicious.
Course 2: I got the Jasmine & Local Honey Steelhead Salmon. OH MY GOODNESS. SO GOOD. BEST SALMON I'VE HAD IN MY LIFE!!! So flavorful and the brussel sprouts were a wonderful addition to the dish. I wasn't a fan of the butter on the salmon but I managed to scrape most of it off. My boyfriend got the Chesapeake Lump Crabcakes. THESE WERE SO WONDERFUL AND FLAVORFUL IT MADE MY SALMON TASTE BLAND. Would HIGHLY recommend. NOTE: The dinner at dusk menu only comes with ONE crabcake but you can get 2 off the regular dinner menu. Honestly, if you get an appetizer you really only need one. Two was a LOT even though it was delicious.
My meal came with dessert which was very good. Small, but definitely enough. My boyfriend ordered a cappuccino off the dessert menu which was as good as dessert coffee gets. The staff was also really kind and made him a special, complimentary birthday dessert plate with a candle and happy birthday message. Very kind. My birthday was a few days before his and they gave me my OWN complimentary birthday platter too! So we basically had 3 plates of dessert.
Lovely atmosphere and surroundings. Washington Duke is classic elegance without being stuffy. The food quality was superb and service personable without being overly folksy. Delightful!
One of our favorite restaurants in the Durham area! Excellent food, fine service, and (if the weather is good) great outdoor seating.
The Fairview Dining Room has excellent food, service, ambiance and character. It's beautifully located in a part of Durham that has a pastoral feel. The menu was varied, but concise. The appetizers pair well with the main dishes. We did not have wine, but I'm sure that the Fairview has a terrific wine list. It was a wonderful experience, and we will return soon.
Always exceptional service and hospitality and this weekend was no exception.
The host who walked me to my table at the time of reservation made slight handed comments on my appearance. I knew I was underdressed, but I have seen other students and myself do so in the past without incident. Since I was allowed in the restaurant, I assumed I would not receive insulting comments about my appearance; if there was an enforced dress code, I would understand if I was not allowed in.
My interactions with the host cast a shadow over the rest of my dinner, and it was very unfortunate.
Fantastic, creative and incredibly delicious flavors. Superb service. Loved it!
Truly wonderful restaurant! Outstanding! Lovely ambiance. Great food. Amazing service.
