Was a comfortable dining experience. We enjoyed the food that was prepared creatively.
Great, friendly service and very good food. Had breakfast and lunch and would rate same for both.
Amazing service, as always, and delicious food! This is my favorite restaurant in Durham because it is consistently a great dining experience!
Awesome food. As always incredible and friendly service. The setting on their outdoor patio can’t be beat!
What a treat! Amazing food! Expensive but if you need a beautiful place to go to and have an outstanding meal, this place is it.
The waitress Samantha was amazing! The restaurant is lucky to have such wonderful employee. The food and wine were incredible as well. We were with my two teenagers and they loved everything. The only huge negative I have and it has to be said...... the four young men (appeared to be in their 20's) who were seated next to us. One of them wore their baseball cap the whole time. This was obviously a place not to do that. It was a fancy southern 5 star restaurant. He should have been asked to remove his cap. Or there should at least be a sign asking to remove baseball caps before entering the restaurant. It is connected to the Washington Inn Duke resort and hotel. I did say something to the host who said there was nothing they could do. That is hard to believe..........Dampened the experience.
My experience was wonderful!
The environment at the Wash Duke is very pleasant and the presentation of the food and desert table for brunch is good. The service is good. The price, though, is too high for the quality of the food.
The meal and service was excellent. We sat at a booth in the main dining room. The live piano playing in the background was perfect. Will return for sure
Outstanding service. Jasmine Salmon was well done and crab cake was flavorful. Beautiful ambiance.
We dine at the Fairview throughout the year as we are members of their Executive Club, which offers special value for diners and invitation to special tasting dinners. This visit was our first to sample the new spring menu and we were extremely happy with our choices. After sampling two of their signature cocktails, our first course choices were the tomato basil soup and the chickory-rubbed rare tuna with a lovely mango puree and delightful, crunchy kimchee rice frites. The portion of the tuna was quite generous, which made me happy that I had opted for a second appetizer for my main course rather than a larger typical dish. I savored the artisan cheese plate with a glass of Malbec while my husband indulged in the Braised Veal Duet. His plate was colorful, artistic and so appealing! The osso bucco and veal cheek were accompanied by roasted belgian potatoes, brussels sprouts, blistered tomatoes, spring carrot emulsion and crispy shallots. Again, the portions were generous and he ended up taking some home after. No room for dessert, but it was a thoroughly delightful meal!
easy to make reservation and the staff did read my additional comments. It was my boyfriend's birthday and everyone welcomed us with a 'happy birthday.' Super friendly staff.
Nice setting, very warm + old vibes. Mood lighting.
We got a 3 course meal (I got the Dinner at Dusk 3-course meal for $35 and my boyfriend got food off the regular menu. Both turned out to be about the same price so it doesn't really matter too much which you choose).
Amuse-bouche (shown in photo). Very delicious pre-appetizer.
We also got bread and butter. The small biscuits were really good and we asked for more!
Course 1: I got the Spring Salad which was really yummy and a decent size. I expected it to be smaller. My boyfriend got the shrimp, corn, and bacon chowder which was smaller but since it's creamier it was still filling, especially as an appetizer. Again, delicious.
Course 2: I got the Jasmine & Local Honey Steelhead Salmon. OH MY GOODNESS. SO GOOD. BEST SALMON I'VE HAD IN MY LIFE!!! So flavorful and the brussel sprouts were a wonderful addition to the dish. I wasn't a fan of the butter on the salmon but I managed to scrape most of it off. My boyfriend got the Chesapeake Lump Crabcakes. THESE WERE SO WONDERFUL AND FLAVORFUL IT MADE MY SALMON TASTE BLAND. Would HIGHLY recommend. NOTE: The dinner at dusk menu only comes with ONE crabcake but you can get 2 off the regular dinner menu. Honestly, if you get an appetizer you really only need one. Two was a LOT even though it was delicious.
My meal came with dessert which was very good. Small, but definitely enough. My boyfriend ordered a cappuccino off the dessert menu which was as good as dessert coffee gets. The staff was also really kind and made him a special, complimentary birthday dessert plate with a candle and happy birthday message. Very kind. My birthday was a few days before his and they gave me my OWN complimentary birthday platter too! So we basically had 3 plates of dessert.
Lovely atmosphere and surroundings. Washington Duke is classic elegance without being stuffy. The food quality was superb and service personable without being overly folksy. Delightful!
One of our favorite restaurants in the Durham area! Excellent food, fine service, and (if the weather is good) great outdoor seating.
The Fairview Dining Room has excellent food, service, ambiance and character. It's beautifully located in a part of Durham that has a pastoral feel. The menu was varied, but concise. The appetizers pair well with the main dishes. We did not have wine, but I'm sure that the Fairview has a terrific wine list. It was a wonderful experience, and we will return soon.
Always exceptional service and hospitality and this weekend was no exception.
The host who walked me to my table at the time of reservation made slight handed comments on my appearance. I knew I was underdressed, but I have seen other students and myself do so in the past without incident. Since I was allowed in the restaurant, I assumed I would not receive insulting comments about my appearance; if there was an enforced dress code, I would understand if I was not allowed in.
My interactions with the host cast a shadow over the rest of my dinner, and it was very unfortunate.
Fantastic, creative and incredibly delicious flavors. Superb service. Loved it!
Truly wonderful restaurant! Outstanding! Lovely ambiance. Great food. Amazing service.
Great selections for the three course brunch. Great service. Atmosphere is classy enough for the white tablecloths and pianist, quiet enough for quiet conversation, and casual enough for just coffee, drinks, or deserts. The service is good and accommodating. The prices are higher, but so is the quality.
Great Sunday buffet brunch! No need to order off the menu - they make omelets and waffles and oatmeal on the buffet...although I heard the crab cakes were fabulous! Don't miss their fresh orange juice too!
The food and service were well below normal standards for this restaurant. However we went just after a basketball game as the restaurant went from near empty to very full in about 15 minutes. It would be tough for any restaurant to cope with this sort of onslaught.
The restaurant was very, very quiet on Saturday afternoon. Only a few tables were occupied. It still took 50 minutes from the time our order was taken until it was served. Very disappointing.
We love Sunday afternoon tea, so we decided to come for a birthday brunch. Overall, it was a wonderful experience. We'll be back and would recommend the dining room to anyone!
Fairview Dining Room is a place we go for special occasions and this particular occasion was my wife's birthday. The service was excellent as usual and the food was great. The surprise birthday dessert was a perfect ending to a fabulous evening. We will be back.
Another lovely dining experience at the Fairview Dining Room this past weekend. To be sure, there are not many places around like the Fairview. The decor is lovely, the service is top notch, and we love the fact that there is weekend piano music provided by an exceptionally gifted pianist. The menu has a good selection, and is particularly good for those who are gluten free. It's not a "Foodies" paradise, but all selections are tasty, well prepared, and priced reasonably relative to the overall setting. Somehow I missed this place over my first 18 or so years in Raleigh, but the Fairview has now become one of our go-to eating establishments for a special occasion, or a romantic evening complete with live music.
Food was excellent. Nice evening out,
Excellent Valentine's Day experience: great food service and atmosphere.
Food was delicious. Service was impeccable as always.
We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner and the service was outstanding. Looking forward to returning!
Although we enjoy the Fairview Dining Room, it hasn't changed the brunch menu since we first started going there more than three years ago. While the dinner menu changes seasonally, the brunch menu stays the same. It's now very boring. Time to freshen it up.
We thought it was okay. Just okay. For the price, I expected a lot more. The food was also just okay. The tomato soup was awesome, but my girlfriend thought her salmon wasn’t great and my risotto was bland. All in all: wouldn’t go back.
Paul Holmes on piano, wonderful, as he has been over the last several decades. Food was superb, as usual.
Wonderful, slow and thoroughly enjoyable. Live Piano jazz quietly in background. Lingered over three courses for 2 1/2 hrs. Could not have been better.
Went for Triangle Restaurant Week - the selection was outstanding. We had as appetizers a winter salad with hazelnuts, cranberries, local cheese and mixed greens. The other appetizer was a thick soup with white beans, apple and onion; on top there were some crisped beets. Portions were good and perfect in size for an appetizer. Main dish was a salmon and the NC Fresh Catch, a wreck fish. The preparation was on point for both and the additional items /sides for the fish added a nice little unusual touch such as sunchoke, hazelnut/cheese crumble for the salmon, while the wreck fish has kale chips and Beluga lentils.
Dessert was a sampling of three items - we ended up having one boxed up and split the remaining dessert. Again some unusual items to note here a hibiscus cake with citrus and lavender-infused panna cotta. Everything was excellent, place was busy and serving staff was outstanding.
Our experience was wonderful! Nice welcome and seating. Our waiter, Nate! was excellent. He was pleasant and helpful with any questions. He was attentive but not obtrusive. Manager came by to greet and check on our enjoyment. She was very appropriate and we enjoyed a brief pleasant conversation. Highly recommend the Fairview for dinning.
Food was excellent, service was slow but good!
Service was beyond excellent, very personal, and the food was delicious. The restaurant week menu was very affordable as well!
This place is designed to pamper Duke alums with the obvious goal of patronage. It's all very toney and there is a studied effort at friendliness by all employees. The food is very well prepared. With all that_i had the nagging feeling that the place just isn't all that much fun_ and the food was just a bit dull. Probably won't be back soon.
We dined during restaurant week and were not disappointed. All the food was delicious and the wine was as well. Service was a little spotty - we arrived early for our reservation and they couldn't seat us right away, no problem. But then several groups got seated before us and it wasn't until after we went back to the host stand to remind them that they finally seated us. Our server was busy when we first got there so service was slow, but then when it calmed down in the restaurant the service was better.
It is a bit pricey so would only go again for a special occasion or another restaurant week.
Overall we really enjoyed it and had a great dinner!
