Fairview Dining Room is a place we go for special occasions and this particular occasion was my wife's birthday. The service was excellent as usual and the food was great. The surprise birthday dessert was a perfect ending to a fabulous evening. We will be back.

Another lovely dining experience at the Fairview Dining Room this past weekend. To be sure, there are not many places around like the Fairview. The decor is lovely, the service is top notch, and we love the fact that there is weekend piano music provided by an exceptionally gifted pianist. The menu has a good selection, and is particularly good for those who are gluten free. It's not a "Foodies" paradise, but all selections are tasty, well prepared, and priced reasonably relative to the overall setting. Somehow I missed this place over my first 18 or so years in Raleigh, but the Fairview has now become one of our go-to eating establishments for a special occasion, or a romantic evening complete with live music.

Although we enjoy the Fairview Dining Room, it hasn't changed the brunch menu since we first started going there more than three years ago. While the dinner menu changes seasonally, the brunch menu stays the same. It's now very boring. Time to freshen it up.

We thought it was okay. Just okay. For the price, I expected a lot more. The food was also just okay. The tomato soup was awesome, but my girlfriend thought her salmon wasn’t great and my risotto was bland. All in all: wouldn’t go back.

Wonderful, slow and thoroughly enjoyable. Live Piano jazz quietly in background. Lingered over three courses for 2 1/2 hrs. Could not have been better.

Went for Triangle Restaurant Week - the selection was outstanding. We had as appetizers a winter salad with hazelnuts, cranberries, local cheese and mixed greens. The other appetizer was a thick soup with white beans, apple and onion; on top there were some crisped beets. Portions were good and perfect in size for an appetizer. Main dish was a salmon and the NC Fresh Catch, a wreck fish. The preparation was on point for both and the additional items /sides for the fish added a nice little unusual touch such as sunchoke, hazelnut/cheese crumble for the salmon, while the wreck fish has kale chips and Beluga lentils.
Dessert was a sampling of three items - we ended up having one boxed up and split the remaining dessert. Again some unusual items to note here a hibiscus cake with citrus and lavender-infused panna cotta. Everything was excellent, place was busy and serving staff was outstanding.

Our experience was wonderful! Nice welcome and seating. Our waiter, Nate! was excellent. He was pleasant and helpful with any questions. He was attentive but not obtrusive. Manager came by to greet and check on our enjoyment. She was very appropriate and we enjoyed a brief pleasant conversation. Highly recommend the Fairview for dinning.

This place is designed to pamper Duke alums with the obvious goal of patronage. It's all very toney and there is a studied effort at friendliness by all employees. The food is very well prepared. With all that_i had the nagging feeling that the place just isn't all that much fun_ and the food was just a bit dull. Probably won't be back soon.

We dined during restaurant week and were not disappointed. All the food was delicious and the wine was as well. Service was a little spotty - we arrived early for our reservation and they couldn't seat us right away, no problem. But then several groups got seated before us and it wasn't until after we went back to the host stand to remind them that they finally seated us. Our server was busy when we first got there so service was slow, but then when it calmed down in the restaurant the service was better.
It is a bit pricey so would only go again for a special occasion or another restaurant week.
Overall we really enjoyed it and had a great dinner!

Dining at Fairview, one can enjoy extra treats like a tiny tasty appetizer & wonderful attentive service. The food is consistently delicious. Their attention to detail or special issues like gluten sensitivity is noteworthy.

Condecending from the reception desk through to the end of the meal. If you are female, wearing pearls, a regular, with white hair who likes to waste money and be fawned over by a lothario floor manager, by all means go and enjoy yourself with the women in your party. Otherwise, there are many places in Durham that will appreciate your business and return much more for your investment. Do no waste you time or money here.

Dined here as part of Triangle Restaurant Week. Appetizers we're good, Waduke chowder and Winter salad. My wife's salmon was outstanding and my filet was very good. Had a small selecton of sweets for included desert course. All we're very tasty but we're only a taste of each. But it was what we expected as part of the fixed-price 3 course meal we selected. Outstanding and attentive service but never felt rushed. Ambience was very nice. Very quite to start but noice level increased a bit after a couple of large parties were seated. However it was never noisy. Over all an excellent experience.

The chowder was excellent and I highly recommend it. The lunch entree I ordered was bland and somewhat underwhelming. However, the decor, service, and history of this restaurant were well worth the trip. I plan to visit the restaurant again soon to try another entree.

Met my sister and nephew during Triangle Restaurant Week, and ordered off a smaller menu. We all enjoyed our meals. For entrees, we had the pastrami sandwich (basically a Reuben), shrimp carnitas, and salmon. Fairview is always a good destination to celebrate a nice occasion or just have a great meal. Someday soon, I am going to try their afternoon tea.

I went for restaurant week during lunch time. The place is beautiful and the service exceptionally amazing. The food was so-so, but just for my tastes. The dishes were beautifully presented, see pictures. So, I usually eat my food the way the chef intended, but I thought it was a little bland here. There were some young people dining, but most of the clientele are much older. Still, I would go back. I had a great experience.

My friend and I were looking for a fine-dining evening with relative quiet in an elegant setting....and we got it! We were seated in a semicircular booth so we felt like we were almost private. The wait staff were especially courteous and attentive without hovering. All-in-all, it was a totally satisfying evening.

The noise was nearly overwhelming; hard to hear over loud conversation and a piano. Television screens with football on every wall like a sports bar were distracting and degraded other attempts to appear upscale. Food was good, but not great, and expensive.

Outstanding. The only "negative" is that the ambiance was less formal than I remembered. The menu did not include all that is shown within the dining website. A bit disconcerting for a high end restaurant to have burgers on the menu. However, the meals we had were outstanding.

When we visited Fairview a few months ago, we had service issues. When we visited in December, I was so impressed with the service and food. January, for a special occasion, it seemed to take forever to get our drinks, bread, salad and meal. There were 5 of us and even though there were several round tables to accommodate our group comfortably, we were sat at a three quarters table where we were on top of each other. We initially had to stop folks to get water refills. Since the booking was identified as a birthday, I would have assumed the waiter, or someone would have mentioned it and found out who was celebrating a birthday. Then when presenting the birthday dessert, it would have been presented to the correct person. The table next to us had issues too so I'm guessing it was just not a bonus night at Fairview. We will try it one more time.
