Excellent Valentine's Day dinner! Cabbage potage was delicious as was the duck and ribeye. Chocolate decadence for two was a perfect end to dinner and the balloons with chocolate covered strawberries as a favor added a great touch of holiday fun to leave with! Service was very professional also. Will be back as we truly enjoy this restaurant.
Loved everything about the evening except the receptionist sat us way back in the back room even though there were a few tables of appropriate size for 2 in the center room where the piano was set.... that would have been much more romantic....we had a 8:45 dinner reservation and according to your website you stopped seating at 9:00....I didn’t see too many new customers after us so it would have been a nicer evening if we weren’t seated so far away behind a column....seemed unnecessary...other than that the selections were perfect and the waiter was excellent....
Quite a mixed experience. We made our reservation weeks ahead of time. When we made the reservation, I researched and could not find any mention of a special Valentine’s menu for 2020. And no one thought to alert us to the Prix Fixe menu we found at the restaurant. The staff was very friendly, and our waiter seemed like he knew his stuff. In the end, he wasn’t as on point as we had thought.
First, after we were seated, he told us we needed to make our selections for appetizer, main course, and dessert at the start. Though we would have preferred to decide the dessert course later, we obliged.
The bread came, then the appetizers, and then the main course. Everything was delicious.
Then we waited in anticipation for dessert. And we waited.
We watched as some tables received cocktail glasses with a red-pink contents. It didn’t seem all tables received them, but it piqued my curiosity.
Finally, our waiter came by and apologized for the delay. He had “forgotten to press the button for our desserts.
They finally arrived: a hazelnut cheesecake and a strawberry torte. Both were delightful, though the sprouts on the torte detracted from the experience.
When returned with our check, I gave into my curiosity and inquired about the cocktail glasses some tables received, and I found that these were the amuse bouche as listed on the menu for all guests. I guess he forgot to push THAT button as well. He offered to bring them to us after the meal, but we declined.
Then we looked at the check. It was for only $36! I’m sure we could have paid that and left, but we aren’t like that. We waited again for him to return, then to sort out the check.
Dinner was delicious, but someone should have alerted us to the Prix Fixe menu ahead of time. We should have received every course we paid for and in the order the chef planned for them to be served. Our desserts should have been served in a more timely manner.
As you can see, a mixed affair, indeed.
Valentines Day dinner, good choices on the Pre Fixe menu, pricing was good and the food was excellent. Service was very good and attentive, it took a little longer than I liked to get a drink order in but other than that, it was a great experience and I will definitely return again for dinner or Sunday brunch.
Great experience and Service !
This was a Valentine's Day Dinner and so it was a price fixed menu $79 per person and the menu was limited. Our table was definitely an add on - sort of in a hallway. The room was setup very nice and the service started out just fine but that changed. Our waiter came over, took our drink order along with our appetizer, main curse and desert order. After we received our drinks (which came right away) the service went cold, we literally had to stop a server (not our waiter) to ask for bread, which was never delivered either. We received our appetizers, and then again our waiter was nowhere to be seen for at least 20 minutes. It was now 9:10pm and we had 7:15pm reservations. We stopped a manager, asked where our dinner was and he came out with in almost immediately, apologized and then told us we would comp our drinks. The food was amazing, I mean everything. The desert was a perfect and had it not been for such a long wait period and lack of attention this would have been perfect and for that fact – we will give this place anther shot for sure.
Lovely environment with delicious food served; highly recommend the SHRIMP & LUMP CRAB LOUIS (served with avocado, tomato, cajun remoulade, baby romaine) and SHRIMP & GRITS (served with pamlico shrimp, anson mills grits, grilled andouille, trinity gravy, sorghum glazed carrots, root vegetable frites). It will be a perfect choice to pair your lunch with a glass of Foxglove Cabernet Sauvignon.
Very nice ambiance and great food (although limited on game days). Good atmosphere for entertaining clients before a game. Service can be a little slow at times.
I tried the Game Day Tailgate buffet and it was delicious!!! THE perfect place to eat before a Duke basketball game surrounded by fellow Dukies!!!
Absolutely wonderful service, our food was wonderful as well we would recommend going !
We have dined here many times. On this night, the food was exceptionally good. The scallop appetizer was delicious and perfectly seasoned. The New York strip was perfect as well. The jumbo lump crab cake is my favorite and it one of the best anywhere. Our server was polite and attentive.
When looking for a place to impress clients or treat staff the Fairway Dining Room and the Washington Duke never disappoint.
Great food, great service, beautiful decor and live piano. What more can you desire.
Without question, one of the best dining experiences we’ve had, and we’ve dined in many cities, many restaurants. Service was exceptional. Food was excellent.
Fairview never disappoints. The menu changes with the seasons, there are exceptional choices and some items like the Washington Duke chowder that are staples that should not be missed. If you want a great experience you should give this restaurant a try. There is also a nice early dining prix-fixe option before 6:30 that is a great value for a three course meal.
What a superb dining experience. From the comfy chairs and beautiful decor, to the fabulous service, to the scrumptious food, it was a perfect night out! And the sangria was awesome!!
When we are in the Durham area, we always make a point to have dinner at The Fairview! The atmosphere, service and food are outstanding! I can’t wait to return.
We had a lovely time celebrating two birthdays at the Fairview this past weekend. Our waiter and the other staff were excellent. We enjoyed our dinner selections which were prepared well and presented to the six of us at the same time as if choreographed. We enjoyed the live piano music, which added to the relaxed and elegant atmosphere. Thanks so much for making the birthday couple feel very celebrated. We'll be back!
We enjoyed our lunch celebration during Restaurant Week. We look forward to eating there again for Sunday brunch .
A visit during restaurant week has in previous years resulted in a pleasant meal at a great price. This visit ranks at the low end however with pretty mediocre food.
Salmon salad was had by two dining companions who both asked for medium cooked salmon. The result was rare to raw in both cases which was surprising and disappointing.
A dish called steak flambé turned out to be some dry flatbread sprinkled with microscopic flakes of what I assumed was beef. It was covered in cheese and a little onion.
The bacon-shrimp-corn chowder at least had a lot of corn and great flavor. I did not see any shrimp. Some brown bits I guess were bacon.
On the plus side a small cookie box had three tasty treats inside.
Service was good and the ambience was pleasant so we just have to assume some lesser talent was in charge of the kitchen today.
Thank you for joining us Triangle Restaurant Week, and for your feedback. We strive to provide an experience of delectable provisions and superior service in an elegant atmosphere, but obviously fell short during your lunch. We offer our sincere apologies. Your observations have been shared with all members of the team, and we are using your experience as an opportunity for growth and improvement. Thank you for your previous patronage, and we hope for a chance to see you in the future.
Service and ambiance are what you would expect . Food was not.
Went to the Fairview for Triangle Restaurant Week. They certainly did not disappoint! The service was excellent, as was the food! Will definitely go back again!
it was very nice for restuarant week. We have a pleasant table, good food, and a reasonable price. Service was very good too.
We loved the setting and the food. Such a lovely dining room in a lovely hotel.
We had a wonderful lunch with family and friends. The garden vegetable soup was delicious, and the winter salad with salmon would be worth going back again. We always have great meals and fabulous service at the Fairview.
Food and service are excellent. Once food ordered wait time is reasonable.
A great experience. I would highly recommend the Fairview Dinning Room to my friends.
Restaurant week lunch special at Fairview Dining Room (at the Washington Duke). Very high value per dollar. Top-notch service and food quality. Would not hesitate to return in the future.
Lunch was very pleasant. Great service. This was a restaurant week. Had a great three course lunch.
The is a wonderful restaurant food, decor, service all tens.
Always a terrific place to dine
Excellent service, food, and atmosphere.
This was the best dining experience I’ve ever had. From the food, to the ambiance, to the service—everything was spectacular. It has now become our favorite spot.
Absolutely outstanding service, creative menu, and excellent food. Presented beautifully.
Well-prepared fresh food and impeccable service in an elegant setting
Very nice dinner. Great food and service. Highly recommended.
Over the years, the seasons, and the occasions, the Fairview excels.
I was looking for something special and memorable for my family. Something we could dress up, take pictures and feel special. We thoroughly enjoyed the NYE pre-fixed menu. Our service was excellent. The food was amazing. We would definitely recommend for this occasion or any other.
