Fadó Irish Pub & Restaurant - Austin Ratings and Reviews
This restaurant is definitely a pub and should not be on OpenTable as taking reservations as no one working there has any knowledge of a host/hostess stand much less a reservation or reserved table. If there was a wait we could have had an issue because we had a show time after our 'reserved' dinner time. And service was blasé enough to make it tight even though we sat immediately. Thankfully the food was very good and drinks were fun.
Cleaned our own tables, made reservations a week in advance and they were not prepared. I don't honestly know why they use open table. Our waitress had to be asked 3 times for most things. All in all I should rate it worse but the person we went there for loves it and the Guinness (not cheap) was good!
Worst experience possible. This place called me 3 hrs to my reservation (8 people, celebration, came from over an hour away) to tell me they forgot that they were having a stewfest and they might be able to seat us outside. Not the best scenario; but That was fine, considering at this point-it's Saturday in Austin and having a party of this size we would not be able to get reservations anywhere else.
At 729 we called to let them know our cab took the wrong street and we would be 10-15 minutes late. The girl on the phone said no problem, and thanks for the heads up.
At 741 we show up, only to be told they can't give us a table.
My husband has done 5 tours overseas in the US army. This was his first celebration home for his birthday. We had family and friends plan this for weeks.
This place sucks. If you have any family or friends in any service, don't go here. If there was a problem they could of told us when we called to say we were running late.
There were no apologies, suggestions.
Thanks Fado for being the worst restaurant experience on OpenTable possible.
I've NEVER been to a more ANNOYING restaurant in my life. The entire evening there was a REDICULOUS trivia game going on. Geeks everywhere who apparently regularly play. A guy with a microphone screaming out questions and answers from a stage right next to the table! Couldn't have polite dinner conversation! Why leave that table there for someone to sit at or why not warn us??!?!?!? INSANE environment. Food fine. Drink menu fine. Atmosphere HORRIBLE!
I decided to eat here based on the menu that I read online. I've always loved Irish fare and this pub has that along with some American favorites with an Irish touch. I had the corned beef and cabbage big plate myself and it was simply outstanding. The Irish coffee was great and the dessert, hot fudge brownie with Guinness ice cream, was out of this world.
Stopped here after the Austin Celtic Festival. The food was good but not amazing. They had many Irish options, and we were impressed with the range. Traditional breakfast was really good.
Servers were VERY friendly and attentive.
Some of it generically resembles pubs I've visited in England and Ireland. But the whole place was cozy, friendly, and pleasant.
We had made a reservation for a group of seven via Open Table. Confirmed via email. I even called and spoke to the manager to confirm they had gluten free options and that we would be in the following evening. When we arrived, we were met by no one and wandered around until I was able to get the attention of one of the bartenders. She informed me that the tables had the names of the reservation holders on them - we just needed to find our table. We walked around a couple of times and did not find our name anywhere. After flagging down the bartender again, she got us some assistance - only to be told they didn't have our reservation. Hmmm. They created a space for us by pulling together two small round tables. Ah well. We were determined to enjoy ourselves, and due to the great company, we did! It was a while before we were acknowledged by the waiter and it seemed he struggled the whole time with being prompt and responsive. It became a joke anytime we went to request something, because someone would raise their hand to make a request and he would quickly walk off. That said, the food was good, the drinks were enjoyable - best of all we didn't let any of it keep us from having a great time. It seems like a nice place, and I'll definitely give it another try.
Went to Fado for a birthday dinner with a group of friends. Everyone had a great time, loved the food, and went away full! My friends were late and the manager sat down and chatted with me for a few minutes, even bought me a birthday shot! Our waitress was awesome, checked up on us just enough & was just very fun & sweet. Great place for any occasion or night out!
Saturday pre-ACL dinner with the wife. Very nice location, great for a pre-show dinner or appetizers. Cold draft Harps, excellent Burger Sliders and the Wedges with Moxties was delicious. Nice take on the Queso. Star of the show were the cheese Puffs - delectable little fluffy and buttery puffs filled with a nice blend of creamy goodness.
My wife left her glasses on the tabler, and our server chased us down on the street a half block from the pub to hand deliver them. Outstanding!
Authentic, made in Ireland, décor. There is nothing on the menu that isn't great, but the Lamb is the best of all!! Extensive beer and Irish Whiskey list, choices I didn't know existed. Great for gathering with friends, watching sports, St. Patrick's celebrations are second to none!!
We went here for dinner on a Monday night. The food was good. The wings were tasty...and the corned beef sandwich and reuben that we had were both very filling. The ambience was nice and quiet. Our server was very polite, personable, and helpful. The restaurant/bar was also very clean overall. Recommended.
Food was good. Drinks were good. Waiter was excellent. Unfortunately, the music was too loud for my blood and my group had a difficult time having a meaningful conversation over dinner. I had just come from a Formula 1 race where the cars are very loud, but the music was too much for me. It was our 2nd year in a row to visit Fado's. Next time, we'll be a bit more aware of the music level before we dine in again.
As someone who came to Austin from the North of Ireland at the end of the summer, I've been dying to try an Irish pub since I got here. Fadó is an excellent restaurant and it was great to take my new friends out for a meal and give them an authentic taste of what home is for me. I will definitely be back!
