Fable Ratings and Reviews
The patio was very nice! We ordered the french toast with side of eggs and potatoes. The french toast was very delicious unlike the regular ones that are so stuffy. The potatoes were delicious and the eggs were cooked exactly like we asked for! Points for that! The patio is heated if that's something you are looking for! Overall a pretty nice place to try out when in castro. One of the few brunch places that take reservation!
LOVE Fable. I have been here twice for dinner. Sat inside once and sat outside in their spacious, whimsical outdoor area in the back. Everything on the menu is delish. The mac and cheese is a must and a worthwhile splurge for any dieters in the house. I have been dying to go for brunch, but haven't quite made it back yet. It is HIGH on my list of city faves for date night or an evening with friends. Definitely worth a visit if you're in the area.
I've been going here for 25 years through countless metamorphoses, some good, some not so much. Fable has some issues but the space is still delightful (on the patio) for a quiet dinner. The staff is very attentive and friendly without being obtrusive. I was disappointed by the food but I'd it was good enough that I'd go back and try again.
Limited menu, but friendly staff make up for a lack of selection. Mimosa selection is fun and seasonal. We had blood orange. Seating is limited in the garden and seating inside tends to be cramped and noisy.
Always a line for the bathroom during Sunday brunches due to the mimosas...
Our waiter was friendly and the food presentation was good. But I ordered a special of the night, pot roast, and was pretty flabbergasted at the price - $35. Pot Roast doesn't use expensive meat. Though the portion was big, the meat itself was dry and there wasn't enough "glaze". Granted, I didn't ask what the price was. Our other problem with the restaurant was with the front-door service. We arrived 15 minutes early and would've liked to have been seated, if possible. We waited 10 minutes at the front of the restaurant and nobody came up to us. We witnessed an argument between the cooking and wait staff during that time. Finally, we left, annoyed and planning to find another place to eat. That didn't work out, and only then did we return. When we came back, the maitre'd did come up and seat us, and order appeared to have been restored.
Most of the food was actually outstanding, but the entrees were slow to come out and when they arrived, two of them were badly overcooked. They did comp us an extra appetizer while those two diners waited for their food to be redone, but it felt like if they’d been paying us a little more attention in general, the whole problem might have been avoided. And at those prices, I’m less forgiving of this sort of error.
Had a great time as usual, but Marda (?) was an excellent server who cared more than most I've encountered in a long time! She was delightful, knew the menu, took care of things timely, and was overall really terrific! The food was good as it always is, but the service won for overall excellence this time around!!
Outstanding NYE meal! However, we made our reservation two weeks in advance, at which time there was no indication on open table or their website that there would be a mandatory pre-fix menu to the tune of $95/person (not including any alcohol!), so that was a bit of a shock when we arrived. The food was delicious and the outdoor patio made for wonderful ambiance....but we did feel a bit gouged.
This has become my go-to brunch place after a date showed me this spot! It's close to my home, the back outdoor seating is phenomenal! It's such a beautiful vibe. The food, I'd rate is OK to good, nothing special or over the top. The restaurant itself is not too loud and great to have a catch-up conversation with friends.
I'm afraid Fable wasn't what I'd hoped. The best thing about it is the atmosphere of their lovely patio. It's fun to bundle up under a heat lamp and gaze around at the plants and the folks. I would describe the food with the same three words I use for most SF restaurants lately: unremarkable, salty, expensive. I've heard their specialty is roasted shishito peppers. Somehow I missed them on the menu, but it's kind of elementary for a speciality, no?
The waiter was poor in terms of customer service. The manager didn’t care.
We ordered quinoa with duck confit for 17. We got quinoa. The waiter didn’t tell us why. When we asked him we were told that it wasn’t available. When we asked him why he didn’t tell us upfront. He said he forgot. Really?
They didn’t even take time to update the menu or tell me upfront. Did they think I’m an idiot who wouldn’t notice the missing duck confit and pay 17 for a bowl of quinoa????
I’m not going to his place if they intend to mislead customers and rip them off.
If there was a rating for 0 , they would get it
I live nearby and have been wanting to try Fable since it opened. Although not really any savory vegetarian options, the kitchen accommodated my request to replace the ham on the eggs Benedict with avocado. We started with a the apple scone. It came out warm with some very good butter and it was delicious. My fellow guests were happy with the burgers they ordered and I really enjoyed my dish. The server was very busy but he gave us good service. We really enjoyed sitting outside and had a lovely experience. It's nice to find a good place (good food and not packed and loud) in my neighborhood for brunch!
It was a wonderful evening with a perfect italian vine and delicious food.
The service is very very good. We tried many wines and the advice to choose the right one was more than just friendly. It was awesome! All staff are very friendly :)
We enjoyed our stay very much. Thank you so much for that experience!
I came here last minute looking for a romantic Friday night meal, and was so pleasantly surprised! The food was delicious, the service was excellent, and it is a really cute, cozy space. I live close by, and somehow never noticed it. They have high quality wines, and seasonal meals. I had a delicious salad and piece of fish, and my boyfriend had an organic chicken dish that he demolished. We'll be back for sure.
Your tastebuds will delight over the menu. The environment put a big smile on my face when I walked in! The service was impeccable, and the staff were so friendly. The mussels and the pork chop were favorites. This Mississippi foodie was so happy with Fable.
The place was not crowded but service was SLOW. Slow to take our order, they recommended a bottle of wine that was out of stock.... twice. It was close to 20 mins in before we got served wine and ordered. The food was good but my sides were just warm, not hot. As a group we all decided we would prob not be back.
