Fable Ratings and Reviews
Most of the food was actually outstanding, but the entrees were slow to come out and when they arrived, two of them were badly overcooked. They did comp us an extra appetizer while those two diners waited for their food to be redone, but it felt like if they’d been paying us a little more attention in general, the whole problem might have been avoided. And at those prices, I’m less forgiving of this sort of error.
Had a great time as usual, but Marda (?) was an excellent server who cared more than most I've encountered in a long time! She was delightful, knew the menu, took care of things timely, and was overall really terrific! The food was good as it always is, but the service won for overall excellence this time around!!
Outstanding NYE meal! However, we made our reservation two weeks in advance, at which time there was no indication on open table or their website that there would be a mandatory pre-fix menu to the tune of $95/person (not including any alcohol!), so that was a bit of a shock when we arrived. The food was delicious and the outdoor patio made for wonderful ambiance....but we did feel a bit gouged.
This has become my go-to brunch place after a date showed me this spot! It's close to my home, the back outdoor seating is phenomenal! It's such a beautiful vibe. The food, I'd rate is OK to good, nothing special or over the top. The restaurant itself is not too loud and great to have a catch-up conversation with friends.
I'm afraid Fable wasn't what I'd hoped. The best thing about it is the atmosphere of their lovely patio. It's fun to bundle up under a heat lamp and gaze around at the plants and the folks. I would describe the food with the same three words I use for most SF restaurants lately: unremarkable, salty, expensive. I've heard their specialty is roasted shishito peppers. Somehow I missed them on the menu, but it's kind of elementary for a speciality, no?
The waiter was poor in terms of customer service. The manager didn’t care.
We ordered quinoa with duck confit for 17. We got quinoa. The waiter didn’t tell us why. When we asked him we were told that it wasn’t available. When we asked him why he didn’t tell us upfront. He said he forgot. Really?
They didn’t even take time to update the menu or tell me upfront. Did they think I’m an idiot who wouldn’t notice the missing duck confit and pay 17 for a bowl of quinoa????
I’m not going to his place if they intend to mislead customers and rip them off.
If there was a rating for 0 , they would get it
I live nearby and have been wanting to try Fable since it opened. Although not really any savory vegetarian options, the kitchen accommodated my request to replace the ham on the eggs Benedict with avocado. We started with a the apple scone. It came out warm with some very good butter and it was delicious. My fellow guests were happy with the burgers they ordered and I really enjoyed my dish. The server was very busy but he gave us good service. We really enjoyed sitting outside and had a lovely experience. It's nice to find a good place (good food and not packed and loud) in my neighborhood for brunch!
It was a wonderful evening with a perfect italian vine and delicious food.
The service is very very good. We tried many wines and the advice to choose the right one was more than just friendly. It was awesome! All staff are very friendly :)
We enjoyed our stay very much. Thank you so much for that experience!
I came here last minute looking for a romantic Friday night meal, and was so pleasantly surprised! The food was delicious, the service was excellent, and it is a really cute, cozy space. I live close by, and somehow never noticed it. They have high quality wines, and seasonal meals. I had a delicious salad and piece of fish, and my boyfriend had an organic chicken dish that he demolished. We'll be back for sure.
Your tastebuds will delight over the menu. The environment put a big smile on my face when I walked in! The service was impeccable, and the staff were so friendly. The mussels and the pork chop were favorites. This Mississippi foodie was so happy with Fable.
The place was not crowded but service was SLOW. Slow to take our order, they recommended a bottle of wine that was out of stock.... twice. It was close to 20 mins in before we got served wine and ordered. The food was good but my sides were just warm, not hot. As a group we all decided we would prob not be back.
Fable was AMAZING. The brunch was well worth the price. I had a trumpet mushroom, onion, leek and cheese omelet that was to die for. Also - we got to sit on their breathtakingly beautiful patio complete with a garden, succulents, and gorgeous lighting. The service was great - we asked to switch tables twice and they didn’t get flustered about it one bit. This will definitely be on my brunch go-to list.
went for my birthday and thought to try something new. Little did I know it was the same day as the castro street faire! Almost felt like they were having a party just for me as I approached! Our waitress was stellar, funny and attentive! We ordered 3 dishes: chicken risotto, salmon with lentils and the burger. Everything was absolutely delicious! We shared a nice chocolate mousse for dessert that literally dissolved in our mouths 😁 I'd recommend this place for any occasion! The patio made the ambiance for us! It's beautiful.
Great service and food, though pretty pricey. The patio had a beautiful ambience and the right level of sound, however, inside was really loud. I don't think I could've eaten inside. The food was exquisite and so was the service, my only complaint was that my beer was room temperature
We came here for my family birthday (4 out of 5 were born in Sept.), and the ambiance was great, the food was great and the service was great. We really enjoyed the meal BUT we were charged a $15 cake cutting fee - which were not told about up front. I overheard another table commenting/complaining about the same thing. It seems like a strange policy to me (+ autograt @20% & $20 corkage) and would have been nice to know about before we received the bill. Besides that, everything else was great.
We had a reservation for 2 and were seated at a non-desirable table between the doorway & the service entrance, (many servers thumping behind us constantly). The entire peaceful patio directly in front of us was empty, so we asked to move to one of the 7 empty tables. ..they checked. Our Server comes back and says "No, we're gonna stay here, but don't worry - you're gonna like it" . Us: "You mean we can't move to the empty tables even though we have a reservation?" . Server: "nope, no tables available for quite awhile"/ Us: "but we have reservations"/ server : "sorry". Us: "ok, well we're not ok with this table, so I guess we're not going to stay" / Server: "ok"
Really!? The restaurant had just opened, was nearly empty and we had reservations, but they couldn't accommodate us at our reservation time?... I've had one service experience like this before and it was in the Soviet Union in late 1980's...
Well, that was a bummer. Nice patio, decent food, but D for effort in accommodating a party of 2 with a reservation. :/
Ordinary at best ! I had a very average burger for $16 . My partner said his pork Benedict was ok except that the pork was a little stringy and dry . There are many other places in the Castro serving the same food at better prices . Didn't impress overall .
Fable has been my partner's and my reliable go-to spot in our neighborhood. There was a brief period following the departure of the restaurant's first chef when the food was a little off its game. Thankfully that was remedied a while ago when they brought a new chef/consultant on board and the food returned to its status of consistently good quality. In a City where restaurants open and close at the drop of a hat we are thankful to still have this gem nearby. And I also need to mention Fable's wonderful staff. They are pros and know how to take care of their customers.
Overall I like this spot and I like the food. Although we liked our server and she ruin care of us, the kitchen had problems getting the food to her, and in turn to us. When it arrives, it was delicious. Eating outside on the back patio is what this place is about, so be sure to request an outside table.
I would've rated the food a five as the mussels were plump and juicy with delicious broth, the heirloom caprese was tasty(asked for some salt and they brought out a pinch of Pink Hawaiian Sea salt, kudos!!) and the mousse was to die for. The one downfall was the steak. It was ordered MR and came out well done. Made it extra chewy. I think the kitchen needs to practice on steaks. I didn't want my friend to eat alone so didn't say anything.
The service was good and so was the food. But the food wasn't GREAT. And for the price we paid, I expected much more.
The prices were the same as Rich Table, where I ate a few days before, but the quality of ingredients and presentation and tastes were not comparable.
