Love this place. We've been twice now and have loved both experiences. This place is best with a group of friends - ideally in increments of 4 due to their tapas portions (each dish usually serves 4 people.) Fried chicken steamed buns and deviled eggs are wonderful - we ordered them both twice! Our waiter really made the experience though, as he was polite but energetic and joked around with us. It's servers like him that keep restaurants in operation.
I don’t think I will be returning. The menu was ok. Our waitress was wonderful. I’m not sure who the gentleman was but he came to our table to inform us that they would be needing this area at 6 pm. It was 4:30. My friends were offended. We were trying to have a nice time and this just put a damper on it. Parking is not very convenient.
We had a giftcard and went during happy hour. Can't be beat. Not a vegetarian but the grilled oyster mushrooms were the best thing we had, followed by hanger steak with potatoes. Only complaint was that everything was drenched in olive oil. Love olive oil, but our tums were a bit upset after all that. Going to see if they can use less on our dishes next time we go. The deviled eggs were the only thing we wouldn't get again - they were just ok. Chorizo fried rice, amazing. Stuffed chicken thighs, yummy. Olives, great starter. And baklava and seasonal crostada were fantastic. So glad we went.
Had high hopes for Extra Virgin! Menu, though all over the place, seemed imaginative and hopefully yummy. The best thing we ordered was the tuna tacos from the raw bar. Liked it so much decided to try to the Tuna poke. Do not get the Tuna poke. I love raw bar. I love Tuna. But this was very fishy and just an odd combination that was thrown in a dark black bowl. Very hard to eat and to understand wht you're having. We tried a lot. Our waitress did not mention that 4 items we were getting all had bread, so need to order any. But those are just the little things. If the food was better I would. Or have minded. The bone marrow was not cooked enough. The hanger steak was one note and cooked at different temps throughout. The rabbit gnocchi was good but not great. ALSO stay away from the mussels, really bad odor, really clunky and the ham broth was a fail. Everything was just thrown together. I would suggest to stick to the odds n bits pork products. But I will not be back myself. Even the plating was weird and had no functionality. Meal started off great and everything after disappointed. Best thing about the restaurant was the prices but paying $80 for all those items still seemed too much by the end. Our waitress was nice and friendly but not attentive. I expected a james beard chef centered restaurant but was left wishing I would've went to the burger shop up the street.
For being an upscale place, the staff is so friendly from the moment you walk in the door. Not a shred of snobbery. The manager, hosts, wait staff, all welcoming and eager to please the customer. It put me at ease and made for an enjoyable evening. Plus the food is always great, wine selection is always great, & the happy hour is a terrific value. One of my favorite spots in KC.
We ate outside, and it was great. We started with the shishito peppers and the chicken livers on grilled bread. Both were very tasty. We shared the sweet potato pasta which also was delicious. Our branzino arrived not fully cooked, and we sent it back twice. ( There was a new cook on the line.) Finally we changed our order and tried the braised rabbit with gnocchi and the hanger steak. The rabbit was delicious. The hangar steak was ok.
Overall great domineering experience! Had a reservation and had the little "reserved" sign on our table which felt like they were waiting for us! Server was very knowledgeable and was quick to answer any questions but wasn't the overly aggressive type that makes me feel uncomfortable. Food was amazing - highly recommend the one marrow. Can get a little pricey but I think the value is there. One knock was our server took a little longer than desired on a few drinks, but the place was packed and we were easy going.
I wouldn't say that it's exactly Spanish tapas, but it's a combination of Mediterranean tapas. The food is tasty, the presentation is better than average, the service is excellent, but if you sit outside on the deck don't sit next to the metal grate because you will feel every step every person takes.
This was our second visit to Extra Virgin in the last month. We enjoy the relaxed atmosphere and thought that the service was well- timed and attentive. The Mexican Shrimp Cocktail was exceptional; the handicraft cocktails and artichoke Ravioli Basil Pesto highly recommended. We will be returning soon.
We made a Reservation at x-tra Virgin for Monday evening to sample their Pizza, ( 1/2 price Monday's) , we ended up getting 4 Tapas size items as well. The food was fabulous, so unique & different.
Our dessert topped off the evening.
This is definitely a top notch restaurant.
This is the second time this has happened to me at Extra Virgin, but it will be my last. I made a reservation for our group at 5:30 and we were having a nice time. Then we were told that our table was reserved for someone else at 7:10 and we would have to leave by then. This is offensive. I recognize the right of the owner to make a living, but he will now do it with someone else's dollars. Frankly, we were still buying food and drinks, and I'm not sure why you would boot someone who's doing that, anyway. Not again.
Had co-workers in from the New England area. Wanted to bring them somewhere different. We all had a great time and the food was fantastic!! There is something for the most adventurous eater to the least and everything in between. Happy hour is great too! My only suggestion would be to provide a gluten free menu or symbol for those items.
