Exchange Street Bistro Ratings and Reviews
My husband and I have enjoyed the Exchange Street Bistro many times, so we took family there to celebrate a birthday. We like the high energy and comfortable atmosphere. The high-back three sided booths are comfortable and help keep the bar noise at bay. The Braised Short Ribs and Ginger-tini were favorites!
The service was AWFUL-we had 2 waitstaff and they both would come over seperately & ask the same questions. One came back to the table twice to ask what we had ordered & a third time, about 20 mins later, to advise that they ran out of the dish I had ordered & would be back with a menu so that I could choose something else -another 10 minutes before they came back with the menu! The new dish ordered came out in 5 mins while my friend’s order came out 10 mins later! My friend did enjoy her burger, but the chicken quesadillas I ordered tasted like a frozen product, and did not have much chicken! The martinis, although reasonably priced, did not taste good at all! We were so disappointed, and both agreed that we would NOT return!
The food was excellent, but the service left much to be desired. Our waiter was not particularly attentive and never even returned to the table to see if we wanted more coffee, etc. We had to ask for everything that we needed. We have been to this restaurant many times, and will certainly return, but this was not a good experience.
One of the best meals I've had here. The food gets better and better and the martinis are creative and fresh. We split three apps: Hummus (delicious and not at all mundane, like you might think a hummus plate would be), Onion/Sundried Tomato Pizza w/goat cheese which was amazing, and the Broccoli Rabe Rolls, which were only OK. Somehow the sauce didn't quite pull it all together but still an adventurous veg option. Entrees were Lobster Mac'n Cheese, very generous w/the lobster (and a cheesy heart attack on a plate!), the Scallops, which are always delicious and rich, & the Eggplant Roulade, a great vegetarian option. The eggplant was lightly fried and the penne, in a light tomato sauce was perfectly cooked. 4 star chocolate cake to finish!
My girlfriend and I frequent this restaurant all the time. After work drinks, dinner dates, brunch with friends -- it has it all. Reasonably priced and a nice selection. Not to mention you will never leave anything on your plate, food it outstanding and they have an excellence martini/specialty drinks list!
I went out for Valentine's Day and me and my boyfriend had a great time. There was a great Price Fixed menu with three courses for $65 per couple. Everything we ate was delicious. The atmosphere is great. It is comparable to many dining experiences I've had in Boston, but was nice to be more local to home. I highly recommend this venue. I am looking forward to trying their brunch.
We have dined here on several occasions and have never been disappointed! The food is excellent and the service is terrific. The atmosphere in the back of the restaurant is quiet and romantic, while the front of the restaurant is livelier and energetic with a nice bar known for its martinis. Great find!
Excellent last minute find. Food was awesome and only out shadowed by the fantastic service from our waitress. The only drawback would be the very loud and obnoxious group of people that happened to be in the dining room that night which was annoying. However it was no fault of the restaurant.
Was my first visit. I give the food a A. The roasted chicken quesadillas were fantastic and flavorfull, in stark contrast with a popular mexican returant on RT1 saugus whose quesadillas were so soggy I sent them back- just to receive the same soggy dish 30 seconds later. Burger at ES Bistro was also great, I don't remember eating it so it must have been gone ina second or 2. Wine by the glass is limited but seasonal beers on tap were great(had a couple different). The only problem is the noise level. The place was pretty full looking given... But the open concept of the place(the place is rather classy) allows for some mega noise carrying. It was a bit of a struggle to hear my soft talking wife right in front of me. She agreed it was loud.
Overall enjoyable, although when we first sat down we were right under a speaker and were practically yelling to each other. We moved to the table over and it was much better. I'm not sure if that annoyed our waitress (even though she said she agreed) but after that we rarely saw her and at one point my friend thought she rolled her eyes at her. The calamari was alright - our entrees were delicious. Martinis were very good as well.
I love this place. Food is outstanding, great drink menu, parking available, T-accessible, Good service - what else do you need in a restaurant?
My last visit was impacted by several large parties that seemed to be competing to see who could make more noise. Normally there is a good vibe inside the restaurant, but it was a bit loud for me last time. It also seemed to affect the kitchen, as my table ordered a steak medium and it was almost blue in the middle. I hate sending food back, but even I agreed that it had to be done.
It was still a good dining experience - and this was the closest I've come to a less-than-ideal experience at this restaurant. I still highly recommend this restaurant.
My husband and I have been to the Exchange Street Bistro many times and we have never been disappointed in any way. The food is delicious - especially the Atlantic salmon which is my favorite - and each dish is very nicely presented. The service is always outstanding and we enjoy the ambiance. We like to sit in the front section near the window and we have always been accommodated. The Bistro has a unique martini list - try the caramel candy apple! - and their desserts are to die for. We will be back!
We had our office Christmas party here. It was a Monday night so the restaurant was not too busy. We had a lovely seperate spot for our dinner and we felt like we had the place all to ourselves. Our server was very attentive and pleasant .
Everyone thoroughly enjoyed their meals. I had the potato crusted salmon and it was delicious. I highly recommend it.
This was the second party our office had here and I believe it will not be our last.
Went there for a birthday dinner. The Drinks were made well. Calamari was Starting to get away from tender, but was not bad. Entres came out quickly and were fairly well-made. Steak was a little underdone, but I feel like off temperatures are usual for non-steak restauarants. Coffee was just bad - tasted woody and burnt. The restaurant gets loud quickly due to the hard surfaces, but was bearable, and the service was friendly. Overall, a really good night out because the negatives were so minor. Ere are so many disappointing restaurants in the suburbs trying to be trendy, but Exchange Street Bistro does well.
My husband and I loved the Exchange Street Bistro since moving to Malden in the Summer of 2010. This was a first dinner there with friends (previously only brought others for drinks) Everyone loved their meal and their martinis. I love fall and all things apple and thus my cranberry apple cider martini was perfect!
Great menu. Appetizers are fantastic and large enough to be small plates. Great martini list. You can watch a PATS game from any table pretty much and enjoy great drinks and food. Recommend the pork shank appetizer and Bistro chicken. Filet needed more seasoning but good. Lobster mac and cheese needed more lobster. Service was friendly.
The menu and the drink menu both have interesting and delicious selections at moderate prices. We ate the for brunch and it was very nice. Our waitress though was not up to the task. My wife, who's birthday it was and we told the waitress but ... nothing(!), told the waitress her order and the waitress made her repeat it twice checking each item. i.e. Wife: "I want eggs over easy with bacon and wheat toast." Waitress: "You want the eggs?" Wife: "Yes." Wait. " How would you like those done? Scrabbled, fried, sunny ... " Wife (interrupting) "Over easy." Wait. "Oh, over easy, is that correct?" Wife: "Yes" Waitress "do you want meat with that?" Wife "Yes, Bacon" Wait: "You want bacon?" Wife: "Yes" Wait: " do you want toast?" Wife: "Yes, wheat"
My first time here was for my Bridal Shower brunch and the menu was great. Service for the event could have been better, bartender was rude to some guests and the party was rushed out of there even thought we hadn't reached the end time of the event. I returned for dinner with my husband a few weeks ago and the dinner menu was ok but a little pricey but our server was much nicer this time around.
