The server was attentive but failed to mention the charge for flat water ($5/carafe). I didn't see this on the menu (nor on the online menu), so it would be good to mention for future patrons. Also, the chicken sausage sandwich did not taste good at all; very weird flavor combination. The ketchup for the fries is made in-house, but it's too sweet. The dessert was good.
Setting is nice, service was good, food was so-so. Nothing exciting, outstanding nor bad. It was an OK place, but would not return except for their exceptional cocktails.
Very nice place staff superb food. My friends and I enjoyed everything.
Waitress was very slow to pop by
Sat at a hightop right next to the kitchen early in the evening so got to yak with chef McCarthy. Wonderful guy and food was terrific. Duck sausage the best sausage I've ever tasted!!
Food was very good! Some of us had the three course dinner. We thought that they were good value. The desert was good.
menu that is interesting and variable, food is delicious and has neat presentation, and setting is comfortable-it is a treat to be here
I don't know how to characterize the style of food here and I'm not sure the owners do either. Odd is a word I'd use. For example, the carrot soup appetizer had 2 turkey meatballs plunked there in the middle. Why? What did they add to the whole? My sous vides chicken had an asian brown sauce on it complemented by a slaw and accompanied by a gluey slightly sweet tamale. I did not finish. My dining partner ordered a "box" which was a combo of chicken, shortrib beef, slaw, brown rice, sauce, piled into a Chinese food takeout box and turned upsidedown on the plate. The apple crisp was soggy and tasted as if it might have been made in days previous and then reheated in the microwave.
Everything was good. It’s just that the time period between each course could be kind of long.
Valentine’s Day - service was just okay - we waited a long time for our meal
Valentine’s Prix Fixe with wine pairings. Delicious, sweet, and quiet enough for romantic talk. Met the owners: Authentic, down to earth, and projected real interest and care. Waitstaff has plenty of “veterans,” indicating a good employer (our waiter was coming up in 10 years).
Food was delicious: “boozy raisins,” “last year’s cherries soaked in wine,” some really intense and sometimes delicate flavors punctuating the, *literally*, tenderest roast beef we’ve ever had.
Very high quality-price ratio—the Scot is well pleased.
It's not easy to maintain a high level of quality day in and day out and the team here at EVOO has done it for years
Good place for a quick business lunch.
Eclectic yet delectable menu choices.
Another great meal. Lettuce salad, soup and fish. Fantastic flavors and quality ingredients.
The new preparation of the Cod / blue fish is the best so far. Excellent meal, as always.
very good indeed. Friendly staff, an excellent menu and food. Made for a very enjoyable evening.
We went for a belated birthday meal. It’s long been one of our favorite places, but we hadn’t been in a while. We got the weekend prix fixe, and for $42 got soup/appetizer, dinner, and dessert. The food was great, we were seated right next to the open kitchen, and the service was perfect. Their crunchy breadsticks are amazing, and I was glad to see they still served them. Overall a great place for a special meal or just a nice night out.
EVOO is an excellent restaurant. The food and entire staff are incredible. I highly recommend that you visit EVOO.
Our favorite restaurant for special occasions! We enjoy Monday evenings when the restaurant is quiet. Fresh ingredients, and well prepared entrees the norm. Thank you McCarthy's!
Fantastic food with many options for upscale dining or just plain amazingly tasty simple fair. we had starters with Corn Bisque in one plate, and heirloom tomatoes with cheese on the other plate. we had a delicious local organically produced burger. And to share a bottle of fantastic super tuscan red. we finished with a chocolate cake that was divine. I will return every time I am in Cambridge. I just wish I visited my first night here as well. Thank you for a warm welcome and a wonderful food filled evening
We will definitely be back. Always a joy.
Quiet weeknight so we were easily able to converse. I had a fabulous bluefish, which was mild and beautifully seasoned, and a terrific corn risotto. My companion is vegetarian and was easily able to find several good choices on the menu; her eggplant was nicely presented and she really enjoyed it. Service was friendly and efficient.
Second time there, consistently good. Very good food and exceptional customer service
Delicious and adventurous dishes! Love being knowing where all the food comes from local farms and all the staff couldn’t be kinder and more accommodating. EVOO holds a special place in my heart.
Really excellent food and atmosphere. Best eggplant I've ever had.
Long time diner at EVOO, from back when they were on Beacon St. It’s our consistent go-to place for special occasions and never disappoints! Locavore nirvana...
Went to EVOO after proposing to my fiancé and they were incredible. They went above and beyond to make our night special, and we will certainly be going back 😊
I was at EVOO for a dinner meeting and loved the food, as well as the service, during that evening. I spoke with the manager to express how wonderful it was and she mentioned that the restaurant periodically has a prix fixe menu with a wine pairing. Just a few days later I made reservations to celebrate my husband's birthday and was remembered and greeted by her. The service is incredibly personal. Now for the food: We had the smoked bluefish entré with corn risotto, small wheels of roasted zucchini, and a relish of fresh nectarines. WONDERFUL. My husband ordered a salad and was enjoying it when the waiter came to our table, carrying a salad and telling us that the salad delivered was not what my husband ordered. The "correct" salad was offered to us to take home. Totally unnecessary, but again very impressive. I had roasted broccoli, listed as a "side," for a starter. It came with a savory, cheesy topping not listed on the menu, but completely delicious. For dessert we shared the summer berry-peach crisp with sour cream ice cream. For those not needing chocolate, this is a perfect dessert to end a delicious meal. Thank you, Kristen and staff, for a memorable dining experience. We will return soon!
The Chinese Box entree is fabulous, my favorite on the menu. My companion had the sous vide chicken and loved it. Also loved the bread sticks and olive oil/bean dip.
It was great
Very positive overall. I had the Chinese Box, which is sort of a signature dish for EVOO. It was delicious- the “lunch “ size, which is 16 oz, is plenty - I can’t imagine who eats the larger size. The entree and appetizer (pâté) were attractively presented. The service was a bit slow at times, but I’ve seen worse.
We have had dinner at Evoo before. We liked a lot because of their creativity and Asian influence of American cuisines. This time, we came back for Dine Out Boston. However, something was not perfect. Their signature appetizer, white bean paste, was not as tasty as before. While my wife's orders, gazpacho and slow cooked chicken breast, were hit, my orders, lettuce and blue fish, were mediocre. Maybe because I had too much expectation, I was little disappointed because of less creativity. By the time of dessert, we were quite full, so we could not finish our desserts. Our major concern is the restaurant being quiet despite Friday evening. We will come back for another dinning soon.
A friend and I had a truly wonderful dinner at EVOO where the menu is imaginative, the ingredients fresh as can be, and the service attentive, friendly and non-intrusive. The decor is not fussy, the lighting is good and the ambience low-key. This restaurant lets its food speak for itself and it's a great spokesman.
EVOO always makes an effort, even for Diners Out. The menu was delicious; the service, perfect. Their dinner brightened a rainy day for us and five friends.
Nice food, nice environment. They offer gluten-free options.
Went for dine out Boston, great food and drinks and service!
We checked the Restaurant week menu prior to going to the restaurant, but apparently it was wrong as when we got there we were told some of the options that were available on the website were not included. Additionally it took a while for the food to arrive even though the restaurant was empty, and when it did the courses were not very well planned: I was still eating my main when they brought me my dessert, the ice cream melted before I could get to it, some people were eating mains while others got their desserts... Otherwise the food was not bad.
The service was very slow. It took for our group of 8 over 45 minutes to get their main course. Two in the party were given the wrong item.
My husband and I visited for Dine Out week. We both choose different items off the menu. I had the eggplant main dish and it was incredible. hands down one of the best meals I have ever had. My husband had the fish and it was not impressive (particularly in comparison to the eggplant). The drink pairing with each course was also quite a nice treat and something we haven't seen at other restaurants. Our waitress was wonderful and accommodating. We will be returning with friends! Thanks for the lovely time.
I’ve always enjoyed EVOO but have not been there since leaving my former employer Genzyme. I liked the old location better but the food retains much of it’s quality. Lots of local customers so it can be a busy place. Was quiet because of the summer.
