EVOO is absolutely wonderful. We enjoyed the special Valentine’s Day menu and were, as always, treated as family by Colleen, Dan and the entire EVOO crew. We will be back soon!
Overall "OK', but... advertised this obligatory "Valentine's Menu" for days... but could never see it! Also, did not appreciate being "double" checked re: reservation. I made a reservation, and something can always come up, but I made a reservation. As for the food, mostly OK, but the gnocchi thing was small and very un-gnocchi like... And $65 each plus tax and tip... almost $200 9without wine)... sorry, but that's too much. Anyway, I enjoyed my beef...
Food was excellent as were the drinks! Was quiet and we were able to talk without competing with the music. So refreshing.
We enjoyed a great night out at Evoo! The food was really delicious. Expect high-quality food, great service, and good selection. A relaxing, low key atmosphere. A couple of minor issues...but we would still highly recommend (burger was not cooked to order - "medium plus" - and the cod wasn't as flavorful as we expected). Neither of these issues detracted from a great night out for dinner. This is a terrific restaurant and well worth the visit, many times over.
The tenderloin was AMAZING! I have been here only once before despite living just down the street, but I will be sure to be back soon!
We had another wonderful meal at Evoo, thank to both the excellent food and the excellent server, Dan (I hope I am remembering his name correctly). Dan encouraged us to split dishes so that we could try more, yet not order too much (hint: if you want a terrific snack the next day, order the candied/curried nuts to take with you). And he paced the meal perfectly. Another sign of an excellent restaurant: one of the owners stopped by to say hello.
We also appreciate the half-bottles of excellent wine, so it is possible to have a drink before dinner and have wine with the meal, yet not have too much to drink. We had a Grgich Hills chard, which we almost never see as a half-bottle in a restaurant. So, kudos, too, to those who have created the wine list. We are eager to return.
EVOO is always wonderful with great food and service every time we go there. We went for a birthday dinner, and had a great time.
I love a good burger and this one doesn't disappoint. The burger was done perfectly to my liking and toppings were absolutely perfect. The pickle was fresh and the french fries were crispy. Even the ketchup was homemade. I would definitely visit again. Save room for dessert, it was one of the best that I have had in a long time.
We have never had a bad meal at Evoo. In fact I cannot remember any complaints at all in the 8 years we have been going there. Our server Eileen was outstanding.
Menu is limited and was just fair - went on a Sat night and there were lots of empty tables. Desserts were excellent.
Took our friends from New Hampshire and we all had a wonderful time. More people in the Cambridge area should try this place on the weekends. Would be fun with more of a crowd
Got the Weekend Prix Fixe menu which was a fantastic option and very reasonably priced!
Food was fantastic, with the exception of overly salty and straw-thin crispy breadsticks. Great place!
Excellent as always!
A friend and I went there for dinner and opted for the pre-fixe menu with the wine pairing. We were very pleased with the food, drinks and the service. The restaurant wasn't quite full (we were having an early dinner), and the waitress was kind enough to lower the background music so we could speak at regular voices. I would return again.
Our group of 3 has a business lunch. Friendly, fast service and tasty food. Recommend the Chinese Box. Prices are typical for the Kendall Sq area. Ambiance nice for conversation.
Been here many times and love the menu. Fresh, innovative and delicious
Excellent food! Great food and very romantic but casual ambiance. The Chinese box is a must try!
EVOO remains a Boston gem. After 20 years (during which many good Boston restaurants have come and gone), it continues to be inventive, delicious, and hit just the right balance of friendly and sophisticated. The return of their pre-fixe menu (now seemingly on weekends) is a welcome addition. The price of the three-course dinner is quite low for food of this quality. Always a great vegetarian entree as well as old favorites along with the new.
Fantastic food and an amazing cocktail list. Will definitely be back.
Always excellent, but I preferred the days when they were more adventurous.
Great service, wonderful hostess but food was discouraging. It was over salted and otherwise completely flavorless. Maybe it was an off night.
Highly recommend EVOO. We've been there many times and it's always been excellent. Everything we ordered on a visit in Nov. 2018 was outstanding, fresh, and excellent - masterly creations by the chef, interesting and creative, fish cooked perfectly, all the flavors of each dish worked together marvelously. Excellent wines, very helpful and cheerful service. Amazingly reasonable prices for the quality of the food. The noise level was quiet and easy to talk with everyone at our table. The interior design is fine, but could use a refresh.
Second time there and just as enjoyable. The salads are huge and big enough for two. The ingredients are fresh, very flavorful and nicely combined. Should have asked for the burger to be cooked medium well.
We’ve kept coming back over the years and never are disappointed!
Food good not great or exciting. Butternut squash soup very good, hint of curry. Green salad with beets....boring.
Dan, our waiter, was extremely friendly and attentive. We even had the pleasure of meeting Steve, co-owner, who checked on us to ensure our experience was memorable. Quality of food was high - locally sourced ingredients make the difference. EVOO is highly recommended.
Food was very good but service was slow. Menu was small but sufficient.
Burger was almost raw, salad uninspired. Waitstaff was very pleasant and attentive. Ambiance was pleasant but couldn't compensate for the disappointing food experience.
As always, the wonderful folks at EVOO treated us like VIPs and made us feel like right at home! The food was excellent too!
We had a group of 10. They were able to accommodate us with no problems. The food was outstanding. They were careful to meet the special and various food restrictions of several in our party. Overall, we had a fabulous time.
Food was excellent. Staff was friendly and helpful, but service was quite slow -- perhaps they were short-staffed?
Great food and all the staff were terrific. Love this restaurant every time I go.
Can always count on EVOO for a delicious meal, good service, fresh locally sourced ingredients and an environment where you actually hear your dining companions. Also, easy parking.
Love this neighborhood place- casual, friendly and excellent food. The staff are incredibly professional, attentive and accommodating. We were a party of 7 people and started outside but eventually got cold. We were able to move inside with no problem. Food is seasonal, organic options and locally sourced. I had the bluefish dish that was excellent and others enjoyed the first course soups along with house made bread and breadsticks. Everyone loved the food, ambiance and excellent staff.
EVOO is based in the bottom of our apartment complex alongside a number of other restaurants. We chose this particular place due to the interesting menu and convenience after we had signed our lease for the new space.
They boast being "Boston's Most Eclectic" restaurant for the past few years and I must say that is probably a well-earned accolade. They have a diverse menu that will have something for everyone regardless of your dietary restrictions or preferred cuisine. They pair that with an equally diverse mixed drink, wine, and beer menu so you don't feel disjointed during your visit.
We split the heirloom tomatoes as an appetizer and had the Bluefish Fillet and Chinese Box as mains. Everything tasted fresh, was full of flavor, and presented in a very appealing way.
We sat outside so were unable to experience the noise level and ambiance of the dining room, but their patio space was a fantastic experience. The servers were attentive and ensured our drinks were never empty or that we were never waiting too long for anything. While that may seem trivial, it has been a downward trend we've experienced in a number of restaurants over the past year or two so to have such an attentive server was a pleasant surprise. The noise level would be what you would expect for an outdoor area that has multiple patios adjacent to each other but never required any raised voices or yelling to hold a conversation.
If there is one area that EVOO lacks compared to the other experiences we've had in Boston and Cambridge it would be the value. While the individual dishes are moderately priced, it seems to add up more quickly than we would anticipated. That does not mean it is not worth the price being paid, it was just not one of the better values in the end that we have experienced over the past 3 weeks of exploration.
We will definitely be back to try the happy hour and lunch menus and are very pleased to have this option literally right downstairs from our residence.
The restaurant was mostly empty, which was a benefit to easy conversation (vs shouting over a crowd). Food was also delivered in a reasonable amount of time. My beef was cooked perfectly with a tasty Bernaise sauce. The mashed potatoes were blah and the green beans were a smaller portion that what I would expect for a $40 entree. The rest of the table had the prix fixe meal selection. All said the food was good. Overall a good experience, just not a "great" one.
I love EVOO, but this luncheon did not live up to my past experiences. We ordered from the "restaurant week" menu. I had the eggplant and it was very ordinary - plus I detest having to fish eggplant skin out of the dish (or out of my mouth). The salad was generous and delightfully fresh, but under-seasonsed. I had a busy afternoon ahead, so skipped a delicious cocktail. Somehow, the food was just not as good as past meals. Hope I haven't been overly influenced by the cocktails in the past.
Food was bland and subtle flavors
Chinese box and haddock were both outstanding.
