Private Cabana Dining at the Front Porch
Multiple dates available
These gorgeous distanced cabanas are perfect for parties of 2-7 guests. Covered on four sides with billowing canvas, these are the ultimate private dining seats - with a view of the entire beer garden, enough space to view the projector on movie night, and spacious room to spread out or grab a high chair for the kids. These seats are weather resistant, but not truly waterproof - so dress for the forecast!

Join us and dine in our turf lined, true al fresco area in our front porch and side patio areas! This section includes two tops viewing the street (great for people watching!) and our more secluded turf-lined back yard beer garden (Backyard Coming Soon). These tables are in the center of our outdoor area and are truly outdoors - we have limited umbrellas for this area but we cannot guarantee weather-proof seating. **Please note that this reservation does not include Private Cabana Dining.**

Food was excellent. The Heirloom Burrata salad is so good! My friend and I split the Caesar salad and the spicy chicken sandwich. The sandwich had a spicy wet sauce as opposed to a spice dry rub. Everything was delicious and the service was great

Food was underwhelming. I had the pork chop which was barely warm when it arrived and the Parmesan grits tasted like nothing.

The food was good, but I wish there had been a little more variety. Different choices for breakfast meat, an option to create your own breakfast plate. The noise level was also very high on this particular day I visited.

"Front Porch" ambiance is the best outdoor dining spot on Mt. Vernon Ave. Surrounded by beautiful colorful buildings, plants, and perfect for people watching. Food was elevated and delicious. Perfect spot to grab wine/snacks or a date night dinner.

Came here for our anniversary dinner as the food and service are always excellent. Sad that they didn’t even bother to write happy anniversary on our dessert.

Service was sporadic and the food was served quickly. We asked for water on several occasions and sometimes it came and other times it didn’t, even after the server said they would bring it. The dishes were okay but not like I remember. For example, the meatloaf seemed very salty and the Yorkshire pudding that accompanied the chicken schnitzel was burnt beyond recognition. Several of the dishes seemed to have some eclectic pairings. Dishes were served quickly so if you want to eat and run, Evening Star Cafe is your place.

Food is very good. Service on bringing our alcoholic beverages was slow. Would have liked them to provide bread and butter. Noise level was higher than I would’ve liked for a one on one conversation.

Great food. Unpretentious but good quality. Wine store next door that you can get your own bottle to drink with low corkage fee. Our bottle was corked and because it was the last one our waiter got us a more expensive alternative as a replacement. Would highly recommend. Also has great bar area and outdoor space

The burger was EXCEPTIONAL — as were the fries. ES never disappoints there. The wings were meh at best. They certainly weren’t ‘salt & pepper.’ Post-COVID w a new chef, the wings have really gone downhill. They used to be amazing - salt & pepper and Old Bay were crazy good. Now, I’ll pass and go to Del Ray Pizza - where the best wings anywhere in NoVA lie. 3 dates for the $ they change? Not acceptable. And the tiny portion of cauliflower for the cost was also a downer for one person in our party. It’s just a bit too pricey for any apps / small plates. Again, baller burger and fries. So if you want a burger, ES is a top choice anywhere around. The ‘chocolate martini’ was an absolute joke. Please don’t make something like that it you don’t know what you’re doing. It tasted more Irish coffee flavored stuff w choco syrup stuck to the bottom of what wasn’t a martini glass. Awful. Service was outstanding. And the $10 corkage is a wine lovers dream.

Hadn’t been back here in over a year after we moved away. So happy to come back and see the food is even better than I remembered! I had a delicious breakfast sandwich and everyone else thoroughly enjoyed their brunch too.

We have been to Evening Star many times. The food is always good and we typically have no issues. I’ll keep whining about the wine not being served at preferred temps. Beyond that we always enjoy our time here.

I want to let you know that no employees here chews tobacco--all of the staff working today have been her for months, and I have never observed any employee at the Evening Star chewing tobacco. I am very familiar with the practice, having grown up in the South, and I would know if it were happening. We would NEVER tolerate that in any way.

Couldn’t have been more pleased with my experience. I reserved a table outside but it ended up being rainy—Evening Star was proactive and contacted me ahead of time to tell me tables would be reserved for us BOTH inside and outside when we got there so we would have a choice and wouldn’t have to sit in the rain. I mentioned the reservation was for my anniversary with my girlfriend when I booked and a waiter brought two glasses of sparkling wine for us! Staff couldn’t have been more friendly, professional, and attentive, and the food was great too. We look forward to returning to Evening Star again!

The food was delicious! I've been here several times and the service is a bit slow. In particular, it takes a long time for the food to arrive at the table. It's also very noisy if you go on a busy night.

Delicious! First time at the cafe. Everyone was very friendly. Had the Eggs Benedict, chicken and waffles, and a side of grits! All very tasty. We will be back. Can't wait for warmer weather to enjoy the patio!

The smoked chicken with mac and cheese and the brussel sprout appetizer were the stand outs, but everything was good. The meatloaf was a delicious but a small slice and the risotto fritters were tasty but also not generously portioned.

It was great to see the Evening Star Cafe return to a level of culinary excellence I haven’t seen since before the pandemic. The smoked beef hash was delicious, as was the beer batter waffle, which was crisp, light and flavorful. I can’t wait to return to try the dinner menu. After a couple of years of rather pedestrian dinner menu options, I’m looking forward to dining on the smoked duck confit, braised lamb shoulder, cavatelli with wild mushrooms and truffled pecorino fondue, among other items.

I know it's hard finding staff at the moment, but our service was lacking (to be kind). Not once did anyone stop by the table to check on us while we were at the table. We were seated in the same section as a table of 8, and we paid the price for that area. Our food came out so fast, the entire meal took 56 minutes from the time we entered until the time we left the front door. Not the best date night!

Ate here after having been many years ago. It’s an interesting setting, but LOUD!!! We were in a booth and had to yell to each other to talk. There are no soft surfaces in the place, so very little muting of sound, and it was pretty full on a Saturday night. Our waitress was very nice and efficient. The menu is interesting, but a bit limited. They were accommodating to switch out sides for my husband, as he wanted salmon, but didn’t like the sides it came with. The date/bacon appetizer is really delicious, but $9 for three dates? And, 3% added to bill to defray paying staff what they should be paid… so, not great value. Portions are small. Overall, it was”fine”, but not wonderful.

Food keeps getting better and better. The pork chop was fantastic for dinner. Also liked the bacon wrapped dates and cauliflower. My husband likes the fact that he can go next door to Planet Wine, select a bottle, and only pay a $19 corkage fee to have with dinner. I am still a little disappointed that there is not one gluten-free friendly option on the dessert menu. It’s not that hard - would love it if one could be included in the future.

Dishes can be hit or miss, but they nail the classics. The most wonderful part- their wine list is a wine shop. I wish every dinner started with an order of smalls bites being prepped for our table while perusing a fantastic selection of wines. I can’t wait to go back for a burger and a funky natural orange or maybe even a pet nat? Or just a classic French red with a greasy burger? Go for the wine. Stay for the food.

Went to Evening Star for a birthday brunch with 6 people. Chose the place because the menu had options for all the attendants. Arrived early and we were promptly seated. Ordered drinks and food and although the portions were on the smaller size everyone thoroughly enjoyed the food. My only caveat was that the server was not only new to the restaurant but seemed new to service in general. Didn’t check much on our table and we had to check on him for coffee, sugar, etc. However I understand that staffing has been difficult these days…. Still recommend Evening Star because of the quality of the food and the friendly staff

Service was friendly and attentive. Have always loved the vibe of the restaurant. Food was ok. Timing of food coming out was off. It was very quick almost too fast on the appetizers. I was super sad that the list was very limited. It also seemed that the wines were of a lower price range/quality which disappointing and different from past visits. Would still return and suggest to friends, but we just weren’t as happy as we had been in the past.
